Academy 1/48 F4U-1D Corsair
timraven1992 replied to timraven1992's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Right, I tried taking better photos and it probably took less effort anyway! Cheers for the tips Jake Anyway, I made some of the random looking pipework for the R-2800 from stretched sprue, painted a bronzy brown colour, if anyone knows what these actually do I'd love to know! :/ They've been superglued in at the base only so far, I'll bend them and glue again when its all cured. I also scratchbuilt the harness out of Tamiya tape. I stuck it on my cutting mat then sliced it into strips and placed one end on a paintbrush handle. Then to colour them, I dipped them in Hu72 brown, wiping off the excess with a toothpick (saves on P/B cleaning ). To make the buckles I got some 0.8mm solder, and bent it into a "hairpin" with pliers, then, keeping the entire thing in a small clear sprue bag, snipped off the curve of the hairpin. This resulted in fairly neat looking buckles. The tightener thingies are just straight bits of the solder. Oh yeah, they aren't actually together yet, but you can get an idea of size from this pic: The IP was next, and needed some red for lights etc. After this I used a clear gloss to pick out the dials instead of klear, as the gloss varnish has a higher surface tension (which is pretty necessary on the near flat surface of this IP). i've still got to paint the gunsight a dark silver colour. Also, how large is the clear part of the gunsight that the reticule is reflected onto? The side consoles have had a splash of colour in bits and gloss on dials: I've painted the red bomb button on the control column: Sorry about the blur! The throttle also got a dose of the red stuff: Thanks for looking! Cheers Tim -
How much is the entry fee? I'd love to go! Cheers Tim

Bit more progress, R-2800 dry-brushed with Hu11 Silver: Cockpit parts matt coated: Instruments dulled down with black pastel, applied with cotton bud: Cheers Tim -
Hell yes! Might have a bit of problem locating a 1/48 Arnie, Eliza Dushku, or Art Malik! Have to do the aftermath with it empty! This was the original idea in case I couldnt find a replacement Canopy for my Harrier Gr7, as the Hasegawa AV8-B uses the same canopy, and in true lies the glass is shot away (by 7.62 ), and also to prevent reflections of the camera. This way I could have the full canopy for my GR7 and use the damaged one on the Arnie one! Cheers Tim

Well occasionally for me a film will inspire me to do a model, maybe a Hurricane because I just watched BoB, or a Mossie from 633 Sqn etc. If it includes vehicles and figures the scope is litereally endless, and gives everyone the chance to bring their inspiration to life. And for me, I want to make an AV8-B, can anyone guess the film? (BTW theres no clear parts as such!) Cheers Tim

Well, everybody love Chally 2's! The most attractive and deadly tank in the world, and it's British! My Airfix Chally 2 came in the post this morning, with no broken bits! (unlike my Harrier) I've noticed that 1/35 is actually fairly big, and gives scope for lots of detail, which the kit already seems to have Anyway: the box and bits: Does anyone have any tips for working with these (vinyl?) tracks? Never worked with these tracks, or 1.35 scale, but I could like it! Hope you enjoy this Cheers Tim

One of my entries for the Promodeller Naval GB will be an Academy F4U-1D. It'll be built mostly OOB apart from a few bits and bobs I may make. The kit decals include Pappy Boyington's (VMF-214 "The Black Sheep") aircraft, and I like the scheme so it'll be the three tone. I will be getting a double action airbrush soon, and hope to get a nice finish The cockpit is about halfway painted up now: I think the white on the decals is a bit stark, and I may dull it a bit: Consoles drybrushed Hu167: Bit of silver drybrushed onto the pit floor and seat: A thinned enamel black wash was applied to give some extra depth: I added the rocket and bomb switches from stretched sprue: The P+W R2800 has been painted flat black to begin with: Thanks for reading, hope you are interested Cheers Tim

Yeah thats what i had in mind, as long as you can see the markings and mark of it there should be no probs. Thats a great idea Dean, a Movie GB, sounds awesome! could easily get everyone involved! That invisible man is classic too! Anyone else interested?? Cheers Tim

Hi Bob, It arrived snapped due to Royal Mail! Looks like its been compressed at the one end of the box where the clear sprue is, and both parts of the canopy have complely snapped off, pretty much unrepairable. Looks like i'll be contacting Revell then! Has anyone here contacted them before? Cheers Tim

I know theres thousands of other requests down, but I had a bit of a different idea, partly inspired by the current Battle of Britain subsection for aircraft from the movie. How about a groupbuild where the subject must have appeared in a movie or series? There's loads of choice on this, just putting it on the table. I have an idea from watching something, won't spoil it yet! Cheers Tim

Thanks Bill, I'll give that a try, would they still send replacement parts bearing in mind I bought it from a "third party" (ebay)? Cheers Tim
