Great job. I travelled on these quite a lot before they were withdrawn from service. That Green mix looks spot on to me and is very close to the real thing.
Well Done, Sir !

Hi Folks,
These kits are currently located in Estonia. All are 100% complete and unopened unless otherwise stated. PRICES QUOTED INCLUDE SHIPPING TO UK/Europe. Payment via Paypal.
BEFORE YOU VIEW THE ITEMS BELOW I HAVE ONE MORE NOTIFICATION TO MAKE: I am contemplating the purchase of the new Eduard 1:48 scale A6M2-N Rufe floatplane, which comes as a 'duo set'. I will never make two of these models and wondered if anyone would be interested in the second kit, if I was to go ahead and make the purchase. I can get the kit at a discount rate so would be looking for £25.00, to include shipping for the second kit. The kit would obviously include a full set of masks, PE fret and some decals. PM if you are interested in going halfers !

Hobby Boss Mil Mi-8MT/17 Hip-H Package (£32.00) Kit PLUS Accessories
RAF Trainer Package - Part STARTED. An Airfix DH Vampire T.11 and Revell/PJ Productions Hawker Hunter T.7, part started as seen. All of the work so far has been done to a high standard and both kits have all of the parts, decals etc necessary to complete them as is. The package also includes Eduard masks for the Vampire and a part used set of Vingtor decals for Norwegian Vampires, as well as the original RNZAF markings from the kit. I have moved up to 1:48 scale hence the reluctant sale, having put so much work into both of these models. Perfect for someone wanting to complete two models in double-quick time. (£30)

Another from my era in the RAF - I was fortunate enough to be serving when we had all these 'real' aeroplanes still around. Changed days - the only aircraft that were in service when I joined and are still around are the BAe Hawk and the SA.330 Puma.
Great model of a sharkmouthed XR770 - I had seen this 'in the flesh' several times but never picked up on the unusual placement of the serial number.
Well Done, Sir !

Great model and a great finish...........very convincing chipping and weathering.

Very nice......Great to see one finished with the kit supplied decals. As has been previously stated, there are so many aftermarket options but I really like this scheme too.

Very nice...................love the finish on the lower surfaces..........very convincing.

Nicely done.......the scruffy appearance is borne out by your photo of the real thing. Just goes to show how tatty the real thing was towards the end of its hard working career on the front-line of Britain's Cold War Air Defence.
Well Done, Sir !

Very nice................You have made a really good job of this FAA classic..........great weathering too..........subtle and very realistic.
Well Done, Sir !

Superb...........great weathering on this battle-weary French Corsair

Brilliant......you have nailed the weathering as far as I am concerned.........just right.
well done, Sir !

Very nice............brought back happy memories too. My first tour was at RAF St Athan and the Hunters from Brawdy regularly performed 'Touch n' Gos' in between Buccaneer, Phantom and Canberra Air Tests...those were the days !.
Well Done, Sir !

If this had a Tamiya/Hasegawa/Eduard label on it instead of Airfix I’m not convinced you’d get half of the moaning about the price. As expressed by a couple of people above, you want a quality kit? You have got to pay for it!
Totally agree............just another 'excuse' to have at go at Airfix rather than support home grown products of home grown aircraft (and vehicles etc).

Hi Folks,
Title is fairly self-explanatory. I am thinking about the feasibility of cross-kitting the Gallery Models CH-34 with an Italeri Westland Wessex since I believe the former provides slightly more superior detailing etc. Has anyone attempted to graft the Italeri nose features with the Gallery models rear fuselage etc ?. I have the latter kit in storage so have been unable to determine whether the two measure up in terms of fuselage width etc. Are there any other considerations that make this proposal a non-starter ?.
Thanks for your help.

Stunning........a RNoAF example too !

Long long overdue and I'm not too phased by the price when one compares it with the cost of aftermarket to sort out the existing kit and the rising cost of 'cheap' kits from China......just look at the latest RRPs on Trumpeter, Hobby Boss and GWH. I have no doubt that some of you (like me) have previously paid 'premium' prices or the original OOP Airfix kit (since it was the only show in town) so it all needs to be taken in perspective.
This announcement, together with those for the big scale Spitfire IX and the Avro Anson for 2022 really do confirm Airfix's commitment to the British Modelling community and their requests over the years. Hopefully by 2025 we will have a 1:48 F-4 Phantom FG.1/FGR.2, SEPECAT Jaguar GR.1/3 and SA.330 Puma in the stable too !
WELL DONE AIRFIX !

Yes, a sad day indeed. I loved his 'tailpiece' column in SAM and our chats at SMW over the years.
RIP Mike

Notwithstanding the long list of alleged errors with this kit, I stand by my original assertion that it is clearly the best 1:72 scale C-130 kit on the market and I look forward to cross kitting the new C-130J-30 with a C-130E/H to provide me with a 'short wheelbase' C-130J and one of those stretched C-130K C3 that I operated with all those years ago on the Lyneham Wing.

I'm really surprised by as many as three paint schemes and the fact that they are not exactly the same apart from the serial number. I hope the 150+ parts justify the rather high price - it's about $55 on HLJ.
By the way, more than 150 parts in a U-2 kit is quite an achievement.
I think the alleged hefty price tag is going to be a sign of the times. I have previously bought quite a few kits directly from suppliers in the Far East but I've noticed that kits (especially those from China) are gradually increasing in price so I am being a little more circumspect. Many suppliers are now not shipping to my part of the world (fallout from the COVID-19 situation) and some of those that are have also ramped up their shipping costs. Once I add customs and duty to all of this, the project becomes cost prohibitive.

Just a passing thought but, might it not be better to have the actual kit in our actual hands before trying rubbishing it?

Today (20 August 2021) is the 30th Anniversary of Estonia's restoration of independence from the former Soviet Union (24 February 2018 is the original Independence Day) and is, therefore, a public holiday. Although the military parades etc are somewhat more subdued for the Restoration of Independence Day commemoration the locally based Baltic Air Policing mission, currently manned by the Italian Air Force did fly a two-ship over the major cities of Estonia earlier today, including Tartu, where I am currently living/working.

As Tony has already said, masterful finish with the weathering. That is a VERY NICE Tornado with just the right amount of 'wear and tear' IMHO.

Thanks for that.
I wasn't aware of this, but it appears that in Germany Phantoms were being used for air defence from 1974 onwards, which is before the date of my model.
Before that it was the Lightnings that took care of that role.
As more Jaguars became available to release the Phantoms from the ground attack role, Lightnings were replaced by the Phantom.
Every day is a school day !
It was actually a little bit later still. I lived in Malta between 1976-79 and during that time the RAF Lightning and (UK-based) Phantom force regularly deployed on APC Camps, including (in the early period) Lightning F.2As from 19 & 92 Sqn. IIRC 19 Sqn converted to the Phantom FGR.2 in 1976 with 92 following some six months later in 1977 with the residue of RAFG based FGR.2s returning to the UK to re-equip existing ADF Lightning Sqns. We subsequently moved to Cyprus where the 19 & 92 Sqn Phantoms were a regular sight since the APC Camps re-located there after the closure of RAF Luqa in 1978/79.
Anyway, none of this really detracts from the fact that you produced a great looking RAF Phantom !
