  1. The Big Scale Tamiyas are interesting with respect to the number of re-issues. I've got 12003 Porsche 910, which was redone three times and ended up as 12041. The 934RSR has been re-issued now, including this year, three times and I'm expecting the latest version, 12055, "sometime soon". Most of the re-issue changes seem to be around introduction of PE parts. They're challenging beasts, but enjoyable - I think. The body moulds on 12003 are dated 1968!

  2. Sunday, just turning down into Goldhanger, dark and light blue (more blue grey) Wolseley 1500 or Riley 1.5 (no time to see badge, although I'd be tempted to say Wolseley, not sure they would market the Riley in that combination). Looked really neat and tidy.

    Reminded me of my younger days when my pal's parents in Kirkcaldy had a 1.5; we got the job of giving it its Ne'er Day wash and brush up - got rid of the hangovers. Also my pal had the honour (!?!) of being one of the first people to hit the Forth Road Bridge on a very icy morning while driving it to Edinburgh - dates it for you!!

  3. Interesting comment from JCH about Tamiya and overscale vinyl tubing. I've got the same issue with plugs leads on my 1/12 Porsche 910. If you've looked at piccies on Google (not loads, but they're there), 6 of those things (two plugs per pot) go across the cooling fan shroud. Hmmm, the Tamiya tubing scales up to a 15mm cable (for a plug!) and 6 of them look ridiculous. So, I'm adopting a different approach which may figure on this site at some point (i.e. if it works!)

Nothing to do with this thread other than the charity shop bit, but I acquired a partially built Constructo large scale Bounty from our local Oxfam; hull was complete, masts and spars cut and tapered, all (!!!) I had to do was step the masts, set up the spars, make the sails and rig it. It's in a large display case (30" x 24" x 15") on top of a bookcase. The hull had been beautifully built. I have no idea why the build had stopped and it ended up in Oxfam, could of course be illness or worse. I just couldn't leave it there.

  5. I can hardly reply because I'm dribbling. I go back a long way with these - Scottish Rally 1971, Cardona Forest - "what the h*** was that". Soon, hopefully, I will set about the Tamiya Monte version with Gotto 6 spoke wheels and decals. I've got a half finished "street" version, but never finished it as wheels are wrong for a road version, e.g. four wheel nuts, not three. However, very well done.

  6. I have an Evolution Silverline and I do seem to have a recurring "issue" with it.

    I'm only using Tamiya acrylics.

    After each use, I clean it by:

    Get as much paint out of the cup as possible - I use plastic pipettes.

    Pour some IPA into cup; swill it around and empty.

    Replace with clean IPA and blow back using yellow cap. Use airbrush to blow this into cleaning jar. Pour in a little more IPA and repeat.

    Replace with clean IPA. BLow this through onto a cardboard sheet to ensure that all paint is gone, i.e. clean IPA coming through.

    Wipe cup clean.

    After all this, if I stop now, when I next go to use it, the needle is stuck, won't draw back from trigger use.

    Withdraw needle from back (with difficulty sometimes), to find minute traces of paint still on it. Clean with IPA soaked cloth.

    Why are those traces there - everything's been cleaned?

    If it is still misbehaving, I remove nozzle, nozzle holder and protector, dump into a container of IPA, then clean them, using the nozzle tool from the H&S spares kit.

    Overall, it's a good airbrush, but can be hassly.
