  1. I've just come across this thread - did you ever finish this beastie? What a job! SD
  2. Pat, what a great post - thanks! Like many others posting here I too can identify with a maladjusted stash/age/ability/time equation for my acquiring models and books. And my kids too have little interest in my hobby. In the past I helped an eBay seller (who was very sincere and well-intentioned but not a modeller) achieve a good result for a widow disposing of her husband's collection in distressing circumstances - she was nearly fleeced by a local trader who offered her pennies on the £ for the lot. I simply provided some on-line support and guidance to the seller about listing terms and phrases. No distress caused Pat - perhaps just a necessary reality check! And a great job on the Heinkel- well done! SD
  3. +3 for Chris and Graham's recommendations for the SAM volumes. Resources tend to fall into one of 3 groups here - technical, camo and markings or unit histories/deployment. Which do you favour? SD
  4. Truly outstanding! A wonderful build and totally convincing end result - your paintwork and weathering is extraordinary! SD
  5. I've just found this by accident - I was googling for pictures of 109 references (ironically for a question posed right here on BM) and found a link to this article. So I've had a very enjoyable 20 minutes or so following your progress from start to finish. Your construction and painting skills are exceptional! Your completed model would be convincing in 1/32, let alone 1/72. Your generosity when sharing tips and tricks (paint ratios, 2 handed spraying and crafty canopy fixing frames for example) is refreshing and extremely helpful. Very impressed SD
  6. Ooooh, you can quickly spend a lot of money on this subject! You don't mention if you are interested in all 109 variants? As you have some coverage of A to E, then a nice complementary volume for you would be this from Prien & Rodeike covering the later marks: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Messerschmitt-Bf-109-Illustrated-Study/dp/0887404243 Roman's recommendation for Kagero is also certainly worth considering, and additionally there is also a number of AJ Press books from Poland with copious drawings, pics and notes. One volume for example is here (apologies to @109 fan on this board for pinching his pic) Plenty of others out there as well. Be careful with older references on the 109 as these can tend not to be clear or accurate about the last G and K variants - these were not well understood until Jean-Claud Mermet clarified the distinct cowl shapes for these. HTH SD
  7. Pleased to see that you're working your magic on this AFS Pete. Watching! ... SD
  8. That's a very impressive end result there Pete. I especially like what you've done with the underside (and entirely agree with your comments about the rocket motors). Great job! For the AFS, perhaps a new 'helmet' is needed for the suit? I wonder if some food or toothbrush packaging might yield a sphere or dome with useful dimensions? SD
  9. Excellent stuff! That's a really impressive final result - and you may have persuaded me to start painting markings, rather than using decals. SD
  10. Excellent job! Really convincing result and a +1 from me about your work looking as if it comes straight out of 2001 SD
  11. Keep going Pete! Looking forward to your choice of paint scheme... SD
  12. And this from Rodeike - I have a copy (in German). No affiliation with the seller - I chose it because you may find this easier to obtain? https://www.vdmedien24.de/Focke-Wulf-Jagdflugzeug-Fw-190-A-Fw-190-Dora-Ta-152-H SD
  13. Sadly yes. Their technical information seems very strong, but they are a bit wayward with unit identification at times. Two examples: they refer to a collection of end-of-war airframes on p134 as 'possibly IV/JG51' when JaPo and Eagle caption these as JG6, and on p165 where the JG54 badge is described as 'originating from an area where the residents had green hearts'. Surely a translation problem with that? But, as I say, excellent pics and technical information (on the BMW engine and the Nachtjager version for example). These little errors let it down unfortunately. I appreciate your enthusiasm for the book - just trying to be constructive. A good choice for a supporting volume, but perhaps not the one-stop resource? SD
  14. Might be worth waiting a little while - Classic (Ian Allan) have reprinted a number of their harder-to-find titles recently. You've just gotta be quick when they appear! My go-tos on the 190 The Classic series 3 vols Try here https://www.whsmith.co.uk/search?q=Fw190&cgid=ALL for MUCH better prices SD
  15. Hi Roman I got their volume on the 190A, F, G and S versions for Christmas. As you say, some great pictures, but some of the captions are wildly inaccurate sadly. There's quite a few mistakes in there. The pictures are excellent, but some background knowledge helps when teasing out the supporting information Best SD
  16. I think Aviation Usk released a similar 1/35 109 in resin back in the day. I recall the same discussions about scale choice then. Not sure how well it sold - I had one for a while and then moved it on SD
  17. Lovely! We've been holidaying in France for 30 years, with just this year missed (wonder why?). Many of these holidays just a bit further South than you are - around Bergerac. I've always been impressed by the Limousin forest as we've driven through - it's a beautiful part of France! SD
  18. Thanks Antti. The B&W shot of the tail of 111751 is one of the series I referred to in my earlier post. Lovely clear shot. SD
  19. Thanks Dave. I've seen the pictures of Steinhoff's 262 you are referring to and they don't seem to be much help for determining markings - the plane was destroyed and the photo quality is not wonderful SD
