  1. I guess individual shops will price as they prefer. Yesterday I stopped in Ian Allan Books in London who had them at £26.99 while last week at Addlestone Models they were £22.49 I think. I just looked back at my order history for the RN Phantom direct from Airfix - it was actually £24.49 so the latest boxing is definitely more expensive but that’s inflation for you. And it is still packed with build options that other kits don’t necessarily have.
  2. Not exactly, the latest boxing is £2 more expensive at RRP just like much the rest of the range has risen in price this year.
  3. Interesting to see the red warning paint on the rotor blades for the lock pin holes and the non-composite blades with the indicator caps (I forget the correct name for these, they were before my time) similar to the Wessex blades.
  4. Yes, I remember the HC4’s of the RN det at Aldergrove doing this before being hangared.
  5. Hi Alistair, Civil airliners get regular washes, the frequency varying from aircraft type or even operating environment; the main landing gears (MLG) and underside of the belly or wings being the dirtiest and streakiest; in my opinion the MLG wheels should not be painted black. The base colour, usually light grey or white, should receive a wash of black that can be built up to resemble heavy deposits of brake dust - wheels weather at different rates so vary this effect. The axle area or axle beams get particularly dirty on some types - CRJ700/900/1000 gears are filthy, Q400 less so. Hydraulic leaks are usually cleaned up or rectified pretty quickly but can be quite messy; this is the result of a burst hydraulic hose on the NLG of a CRJ900 - I see lots of landing gears in my line of work and can attest that there is always something that is novel to see.
  6. The only time I ever saw folded blades on a HAR3 was during functional checks after a rotorhead/MRGB change or on the rare occasions that the OOPS code for the routine operation of the system was performed; I forget the frequency for this. A cause of much mirth among the heavy trades was when the DF’s misaligned the set up of the slip rings only to discover their error when the blades positioned over the front when operated. As you can imagine having the blades folded on a SAR cab at 15 minute readiness is just not sensible.
  7. The answer to your question really depends on what you mean by folding blades - do you mean the type that are folded manually by a crew physically disconnecting the blades and moving them into to folded position or do you mean helicopters with an automatic blade fold system, e.g. Sea King? As others have said, helicopters operated by navies and marine corps are more likely to have an automatic blade fold while army and Air Force cabs tend to have fixed or manually folding blades - an exception would be the RAF rescue Sea King HAR3/3A, but even these rarely used the blade fold system (at least in my experience). Also, I never witnessed or heard of an example of the blades of RAF Pumas being folded - the blades were simply removed if needed.
  8. Because having an internal cannon justifies RAF armourers as an “aircraft” trade. 🤭
  9. The Scammel trucks are featured in the printed catalogue, I have a photo to post if the mods will allow it?
  10. It’s a squadron scramble sir! 😄 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7858943/U-S-Air-Force-launches-F-35A-Lightning-II-stealth-fighters-Utah.html
  11. Compare the price of the Beaufort to a similarly sized twin engines aircraft from just a year or two ago. Then compare the RN Buccaneer price to the newly announced RAF version - a £2 price hike. I’d like to see what’s in the box to justify the difference.
  12. Yes, I have. I was quite into model railways in the recent past until the prices became too high for me to keep up, and not just the price of limited edition loco’s - Bachmann BR Mk1 coaches for example have rocketed in price.
  13. Some of the prices are a bit much, no mention of price increases in any of the Airfix press releases I’ve seen 🤫
  14. Except for the £2 difference in price between the RN and RAF versions, is this a scale version of MOD cost overruns?
  15. Scroll down to the tech spec of the kit and it tells you the scale.
  16. The Vulcan box art is different to the artwork used in the Telford release. https://www.airfix.com/uk-en/shop/new-for-2020/avro-vulcan-b-2.html
  17. I count ten Spitfires in various boxings, reissues etc. The RAF Buccaneer, while anticipated, is the only kit I will pre-order; if I buy anything from else from this catalogue they will be spur of the moment purchases. Having said that that I do think this is a solid (if not spectacular) range from Airfix which I am sure will satisfy a great number of modellers. I just spotted a neat neat touch from Airfix with the stands for this set - https://www.airfix.com/uk-en/shop/new-for-2020/best-of-british-spitfire-and-hawk.html.
  18. Well the tail rotor didn’t work out as well as I hoped. The rest of the build is slowly creeping closer to the finish line with lots of the sticky out bits attached. The photos below illustrate how much is left to do, it’s mostly the aerial masts along the fuselage and on the belly as well as reworking the tail rotor paint. I did some head scratching about the orange band on the “stick grenade” aerial, I found some orange cantrail lining from a Fox Transfers set I bought years ago and pressed it into action. This new kit from Airfix doesn’t have the “grab handle” aerials on the sides of the tail included so I scratch made some from brass wire - perhaps I drilled the holes for them too big. The resin EAPS/SNIPS filter from Air Graphics is a massive improvement on the kit part.
  19. What am I missing about the comments regarding the Revell 1/48 Tornado’s? It sounds like they are now hard to come by but I’ve seen plenty online for sale. In fact I have one of the recent Luftwaffe versions that I have been reluctant to put on eBay because of the low price I’m likely to get.
  20. I thought you were going to say you were scrubbing the anti-slip coatings! Big up for helping to wash the cabs, none of our growbags would have bothered themselves to help us.
  21. Thanks Jonners, three years working on these heaps of junk taught me that, the area around the winch mounts always seemed particularly grubby too. I’ll be keeping the exhaust staining light, she only had a wash last week - I did plenty of them too.
  22. Unless you live in Burghead in which case they celebrate New Year on the 11th January with the burning of the Clavie, unless the 11th falls on a Sunday in which case they celebrate it the night before in observance of the sabbath.
