  1. This is an aviation industry news website so hardly MSM like the Sun or DM. Absolutely, and this article is focussing on the BAW A380’s and to a lesser extent B747-400’s. That’s not a huge leap to make, why send them to storage at an aircraft scrapping site when there are plenty of other airfields that are capable of accommodating them. It’s an interesting piece of news (at least to me with a vested interest in the type and airline) so doesn’t count as click bait to me and my colleagues. I am sure, indeed sincerely hope that they don’t get scrapped, but they wouldn’t be the first A380’s to be cut up.
  2. Interesting place to park such young aircraft. https://simpleflying.com/british-airways-airbus-a380-aircraft-graveyard/
  3. Listening to Tom Robinson on 6Music tonight and the theme is stay at home past times and hobbies, somebody wrote in to say they had taken up scale modelling again after 40 years and suggested this;
  4. Well spotted. The BLG does have the capability to have brakes units installed on the aft axles, but no airline has selected this option. The BLG is built with the brackets and hose clamps for the extra brakes and often result in people asking if there is something missing when they see the empty hose clamp.
  5. That’s the reason I posted the extract from my notes, it’s the main observable difference between the two marks and catches modellers out who follow the Airfix instructions.
  6. Nothing....for the last week except a flying death banana following the M3 to Odiham. Farnborough Airport has also been very quiet.
  7. Everyday really does feel like Sunday at the moment.
  8. I had a look through my Sea King course notes and found these two illustrations of the HF aerial lay out for the HAR3 and 3A as the Airfix instructions are incorrect and appear to be a hybrid of both types. I hope Britmodellers find them useful.
  9. Really great result with the model and setting, the hangar is a bit too tidy compared to the hovel D Flt inhabited at Lossiemouth😃. As @Andyf117 mentioned, the RWR fairings were a Falkland Islands fit and unique to the grey whale HAR3’s one of which was allocated to D Flt circa 2002-4 as I recall. It’s great to see that you added the VOR/ILS aerials on the tail boom as the kit doesn’t include these, but you got caught out with the Airfix aerial mast instructions🙃 - still better than my recent effort. Well done.
  10. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Farnborough International Air Show goes the same way. A decision will have to made soon as the site work is well underway. Hotels next to the airfield are laying off staff and being put on stand by as emergency hospitals.
  11. If the runways are not being used for take off and landing then use them as parking lots. https://www.flightglobal.com/air-transport/three-runways-to-close-at-main-paris-airports/137402.article https://www.flightglobal.com/air-transport/copenhagen-converts-two-runways-to-aircraft-parking-zones/137364.article
  12. It’s horses for courses but I have had a subscription to AMW for the last two years and I am quite happy with it. As with any magazine, printed or digital, there will be the odd edition that doesn’t always satisfy the reader but in my experience I often find myself going back to old issues for another read and end up finding that edition with nothing of appeal at the time has something to offer after all.
  13. A dirty gear is a good gear! Dirt shows up the leaks.
  14. Another “brand new” main gear assembly, A350-1000 with less than 30 cycles on the clock.
  15. Here are two main wheels from a CRJ900 removed for an axle inspection, although both from the same landing gear the difference in weathering is evident. Note that the outboard wheel is exposed to the outside airflow when retracted so this may explain this difference. In the same hangar as the CRJ was this A320, viewed from a distance the wheels do look black. Also of interest, when arriving at Heathrow I saw an A380 with very dirty Body Landing Gear wheels on the centre and forward axles but near gleaming wheels on the aft axles; the reason for this is the aft axle on an A380 has no brake units. I guess the point we are all contributing to is that aircraft and wheels weather differently for various reasons and attention to this detail can make a model look just like the real thing.
  16. I don’t see why not. There was a short period of time circa 2003/4 that the SACRU was removed from HAR3’s at Lossiemouth and possibly at other flights because they saw little or no use. I think they were later refitted after the floods at Boscastle or a terror incident showed a need to have them after all.
  17. It does have some subtle weathering, rotor blades, some oil streaking from the engine deck and light exhaust deposits - she had a wash two days ago😀
  18. I used Game Air Gold Yellow 72.707 over white stynlrez primer.
  19. I finished this a week or two ago. Very nice to build into a decent representation of a HAR3 or 3A if you don’t follow the instructions to the word. I enjoyed this build so I’m contemplating another Sea King but not sure which one to do next - RNoAF, an RAF grey whale, RN bagger or Junglie with a bit of AM thrown in.
