  1. Good day! An amazing work indeed! The best KGV I've ever witnessed in models 🙂 Weren't Type 285 radars unstalled on HACS directors at the time though?
  2. She's looking great! Congratulations with a fine addition to the collection 🙂
  3. Seems that we share the same interest then 😀
  4. Am I correct while supposing that you are keen on British WW2 ships too? 🙂
  5. Thanks Rob! I am now thinking of a possible return to C-class in the future: perhaps, one of the ships with ordinary 102mm guns, like HMS Coventry... 🤔 I've messed up things with the camo though, it should be a bit lower on the funnels and be covering part of the radar office between them. I've also missed a patch on the bridge, but it was to late to make corrections at the time 🙄
  6. I really am! It was quite hard to make a proper model with only a couple of pics and great amount of guessings! I really do not pretend to call this a model that mathes the original ship by 100%, but still hope that it's close enough 🙂 Thanks to all of your for the nice words! That is the best motivation source for me to keep up with the next one.
  7. Due to a number of circumstances I haven't had time at all to update the building process here, so - Cairo is finished! The pictures are here - hope it's not so bad 😉
  8. Good day, lads! The WIP I've finished my HMS Cairo - a 1/350 Trumpeter's HMS Calcutta kit. It's pretty good, no major problems during the build process were experienced. Unfortunately, not a single large set of photo etching has been released for the model yet, so I had to have fun and pull different elements from sets for other ships and buy small sets. 102mm gunsby Shipyards oerlikons by Infiny watercraft and pom-pom by BlackCat etched portholes and sealed caps 3D-printed HACS Mk.III aerial radars wooden deck by Hunter various ladders, rails and small things from stocks As for the kit modifications: two radar offices (between the bridge and fore funnel, between fore and aft funnels) a massive platform above the bridge splinter shields around the guns bulwarks at pom-pom position and the aft of the superstructure inner parts of funnels Hope you'll enjoy! Next projects are gonna be LCT(A)-2042 and MTB-34. And then I'll try to finish my HMS Ark Royal 🙃
  9. Looks too awesome! I always take a lot of inspiration from your works, and this one is of no exception But how about installing all of the 102mm guns on their positions already? 😉
  10. Y-mounting is ready, as well as the couple of separate-standing ammunition boxes and other equipment. There still is a plenty of ventilation outputs, ammo boxes, whinches etc., but I'll move to them later not to break any small details while installing the suprstructures. Now the question has to be asked: if the boats have their bottom parts painted, which colour would it be? Red, the same as the ship's bottom? Or somewhat black? Can comeone shed a light? 🙃
  11. Hi Rob! Infortunately, the hull seems to be the easiest part of the build as everything is clear with it. I can't say the same regarding the superstructures, as there is simply no info on what was there except for the larger pieces 😀 Christain Bruer did a stunning work adding various details from scratch, but even he confessed that it all is mainly guessings! So, the next step will be 1/4 blueprints and pics and 3/4 of imagination 🥳 What do you think of the colours? Do they look right?
  12. Hi again! After the acquisition of the base I finally had an opportunity to move on with the hull. So, after an evening and a sleepless night I've painted the ship and attached the wooden deck by Hunter. It's really the best among ones I've worked with: very thin, but at the same time quite durable. Unfortunately, I still couldn't master the painting at the desirabe level, so there are multiple defects, including shagreen (not sure, if you use this one in English referring to kinda grainy colour layer). I tried my best to correct it, but still it's far, far away from perfect. But I promise to improve my skills 🙂 The contrast between my light and dark greys might be too deep. It is actually not obvious for me, whether the chose of the colours was right. The pictures I have are of rather poor quality to trust them completely, but I tend to think, that the colours are relatively all right. As you have probably noticed, the first 102mm mounting is already done. I couldn't resist to make one - me and my closest friends have a kind of a tradition to assemble main guns exactly after completing the hull. But to uphold the tradition first an anti-splinter-shield had to be done. As a reference I've used this pic: The shield is of a quite interesting shape, and to my mind its frontmost part replaces the breakwater. So, after an hour or to, I came up with this: Looks great in my opinion, but later I'll have to sand out the glue inside the shield. In the topic of my Ready-for-inspection HMS Tartar 1942 built I had a really inspiring conversation regarding weathering and washing. Some polite and nice gentlemen have convinced me that it is not so bad and unnecessary as I had thought. So, the next steps are: 1. Apply wash to the sealed caps, portholes and other lines on the hull; 2. Attach the propellers; 3. Make another anti-splinter shiald at Y mounting position and the mounting itself; 4. Proceed to the superstructures. P.S. Hope this time the pictures will be visible
  13. I really am going to watch with great interest: KGV class looks great! Good luck in your project 💪
  14. Thanks! But judging by your own thread with steamer I wouldn't refer to you as to a someone new 🙂 Woah... That really might be a problem. Hope now we got it solved. Thank you!
  15. That's weird Did you try clicking on them? Does anyone else have the same issue with the pics of my post?
  16. Hopefully, a day will come, when we'll finally witness already promised Dido-class cruisers and Nelson&Rodney... But no one knows, when. Even the Trumpeter itself 😄
  17. After a period of distraction/study and work duties/banal laziness I've managed to force myself and do something useful. The gap between the bulwark and the hull was finally filled with putty, and moreover - I've ordered a great-looking box, which allowed me to attached the ship to her base. This now makes the way opened to painting the hull, camo and the deck. Speaking of which, I now tend to choose the unpainted wood for a simple better view. As there still is no clear evidence on whether was the deck painted to the time of Pedestal Op., I believe no one will judge me for that. As a small bonus - when an endless circle of "apply the putty - peel the putty - witness the gap still existing - say 'sh*t' and repeat step 1" process almost made me mad, a little ship caught my eyesight. So by "distraction" in the beginning of the post I meant her - LCT(A) 2042, designated to Queen White sector of the Sword area. It was really hard for me to get info about its load (Centaurs and Sherman) and a couple of pictures - but hopefully it will be enough. There is a great benefit in working in the same scale. Firstly your built something huge like HMS Hood, then something smaller - HMS Warspite for example. Then you are holding HMS Calcutta in your hands, saying "That's something really small". But afterwards you work with the Tribal-class destroyer, V&W class, a minesweeper, LCT, Vosper torpedo-boat, and finally you put together all of these finished models of ships in the same scale of the same era... And that's when you truly realise how complex, multifunctional and diverse in scale and appearance Royal (but also every) Navy was. That's what I admire in shipmodelling. Thanks for your attention and sorry for too much lyrics 😅
  18. My goodness, that's the exact info I was looking for. Many thanks to you for your answer, John! So, if I stick up to the D-Day itself, it would be better to use Shermans or Priests, and if using Churchills Mk.VII, it should be somewhat like deployimg reinforcements to the army already acting on a continent months after the landing, did I get you correctly? And speaking again of the Churchills as the reinforcements to the army after Normandy (I do like immensely their square large hulls and really rather prefer to use them on a model): what was the chance that they would be delivered to the shore by LCT? Or they would rather be carried out and delivered by some bigger kind of a landing ship? Best regards, Mikhail
  19. Hi everyone! I am now building 1/350 Black Cat Models LCT (5) ship and want to add some tanks in - fortunatelly, there is a kit of four regular (with no huge air intakes on boards) Churchills Mk. VII in my hands. The question is - was there any chance of regular Churchills participating in D-Day landings and were LCT ships capable of transporting them to beaches? And if it actually happened, to which division did the tanks belong to? I come from the maritime branch of the forum and know literally nothing about tamks, so help would be much appreciated 😅
  20. Now back to the ship. I've managed to finally assemble all of the HA guns - here they are, fresh and shiny. I had made somewhat looking like a radar office between the fore superstructure and the first funnel from scratch. There were plenty of extra details there: ladders, hatches, doors, pipes, supporting columns, cables etc., but I'll add them later right before painting. Now it's literally just a box. And it's looking amusing next to a complicated multilevel fore superstructure 😅 Then I've fit the guns on their places on a model to see how it's looking. Now you can see too: For a number of days a struggle continues against a huge gap between the bulwark and the board, but I am just about to claim victory. At least I hope so, but for now it looks really horrible 🙄 Some close-ups to the guns instead When I finally defeat the gap, I'll order a box with stands for the model, which hopefully will lead me straight to the painting. My wooden deck by Hunter got lost somewhere in China, but I do believe it will show up again much closer. There is still plenty of work to be done!
  21. Hi David! As far as I've seen, you are doing pretty well with the Fletcher yourself! But if you wish to... We probably can discuss the cooperation 😏 And thanks again for the kind words. It feels amazing to be capable of getting acquainted and communicating with great people all over the world, especially when you share a common hobby.
  22. Oh, I see now 😂 Good to know that my study did not go in vain so that I'm now capable of discussing ships of the past century...
  23. Sorry, I don't think I got the joke correctly 😂 Could you explain?
