That is nice and unusual. Always good to see something from Iceland - great place :-) Stu -
You could try here http://www.ehattons.com/36920/Airfix_A0917...tockDetail.aspx But they only have 3 left Stu

RE the colour Darius has used it be right or it might be wrong but knowing how photo's can skew things I'll be interested to hear what he says. Anybody know of any alternative RN decals for the kit ? Stu

WOW! That's a very nice 771 cab. Should there be a link to the build thread for this as I'd be interested to see what you've done. As for the kit it's cheap/good enough for me to ba**s up without feeling too guilty. Stu

All of the above! Stu

Thanks for that Chuck. I'm doing an early one with "Torch" style markings on the fuselage and stars with no bars. After reading your post I went back over what I had and realised that the instructions (pretty vague tbh ) on the decal sheet actually indicate national markings on the lower port wing. Having got at least one dubious sheet from Eagle Strike before Ithink I'll go with the pics and your info. Thanks for the tip about the guns - never knew that so I'll have to look closely at what pics I do have. Thanks Stu

Hi, I'm doing an early 4th FG Thunderbolt from the Eagle Strike sheet. The instructions only have side views and not having the SSignal book that the markings are taken from I'm a bit lost over the wing markings. There's enough to do the national markings in all four positions. There's quite a bit of artwork out there that seems to show these in all 4 positions but the only photos I've found show them in the upper port/lower starboard positions. Be grateful if anyone can advise me on what's correct. Many thanks Stu

Just to confirm they did have red stars earlier...... Stu

Skyhawk is welcome, start of a family perhaps ? The F-51D is intruiging, RAAF/SAAF Korea options - hopefully ! Stu

That is really nice, think you've captured the look very well. I'd be interested in what techniques you've used to get the finish. Stu

Gazing into my crystal ball - actually a glass of single malt - I wonder if a new 72nd Beaufighter might not be on the cards. It's been around since I was a lad, never as far as I know been out the catalogue and has no real competition. Stu
-
48th Hunter anybody...... Revell have had plenty of time to fill that gap. Having said that a 72nd one to the standard of their Sabre wouldn't go amiss now Revell's one has all but vanished. Gannet would be popular I suspect. Stu

Hi, That's really nice and well worth the effort you've put into it. Whatever you say about the French their planes always have a certain elegance about them. Stu

My resolve not be tempted by Eduard's 21 has just crumbled in the face of these. At last - spotty Indian ht ones :-) Where do I send my right arm Stu

Hi May be of interest to some http://www.ehattons.com/StockDetail.aspx?sid=37018 Stu

Hi, That's a very nice Keflavik bird you've done there. Whose decals did you use - Fox One's ? Stu
-
Hi, Thanks Gents. The decals are from the kit. Airfix don't appear to have anything to apologise for in this direction now. I know, I know...... ! There have been a number of really good ones posted on here and I was a tad reluctant to lower the average. But for a Fiver or so for the I/IIa boxing that will do three variants it's really good value. Thanks Stu

Hi, Undoubtedly a popular kit and probably deservedly so. Like others the only snag seem to be the cockpit canopy which took some fettling to get fitted. It's OOB with just some homemade belts added not that they're very visible. It's done with Tamiya paints and I didn't get too hung up over the colour of the spinner and tailband. Cheers Stu

Hi, See this is now out http://www.hobb-e-mail.com/ita1304_new.html I'm quite tempted Stu

attemptPut rather better than my Giorgio, I think I'd be inclined to argue this as I understand it the drawings are done here, the moulds are done abroad so unless it's 100% right first time there's a measure of to-ing and fro-ing to tweak things which costs time and money but I'll leave it at that. Very true but does anyone know if they ever start with a clean sheet if the real thing actually exists. Far too subtle a design for mere mortals to copy............... I din't think the Airfix Spit was being used as anything more than an example of a more widely perceived problem but as your've mentioned it Airfix could easily be a footnote inhistory by now. Instead they seem to be pulling themselves up by their bootlaces, admittedly not without their fair share of near misses. I rest my case. Cheers Stu

Quite so and somewhere along the line the accountants will start deciding on the balance between how much is spent on development (and production and distribution) and how much they expect/hope it will make for the company and shareholders. I don't doubt it but who does the design for the mouldings you do ? It's in the design where the compromises/mistakes are usually made and we are making a representation of something that exists and not starting from a clean sheet. How many times do you modify a mould to make changes before enough becomes enough. Cheers Stu

If only it were so simple. Hopefully some with a far better understanding of the processes and economics will explain better than I can but..................... You can keep throwing money at any new project until it's perfect. However for a £6 product that money is going to be finite. This can explain why you end up with compromises. Possibly too contentious a view but everone has the opportunity to show how it should be done. Stu

Ditto ! That looks very nice but whose decals - Fox One ? Stu
