Oscar Diorama complete with figs. 1/48
Stu replied to cger's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Great idea and wonderfully put together. Stu -
Hi, Firstly sorry for the unimaginative photos and their iffy quality. One day I hope I can get the hang of it. This is the 4th Airacobra I've done, being 1 Hasegawa and 3 Eduard. I've been told the Eduard model has some well known issues but I can't say they bother me. The Eduard kit allows you to build virtually any P-39 and in the Weekend edition it's cheap and has enough detail for me. The decals were kindly donated and came from the New Guinea boxing though the same A/C is also on an Aeromaster sheet I have. Thanks for looking Stu

Very nice, you've done a good job there. One of the best schemes worn by the Seaking. Stu

Hi, After sticking with enamelslong after others had changed to acrylics I am now converted. Easy to get hold of plus I find them easy to use with their own thinners. Don't brush too well I've found but trying some Revell for that after being told they're good for this, haveny't tried spraying them yet. Downside, if any, the limited range of "authentic" colours but I try not to get too hung about that aspect. Thank you for the comment. Liked the kit so much that as I was, just by accident you understand, passing the Hornby shop I dived in and got a Seafire 17. Stu

1/48 Sea King SAR Mk3. 202 squadron, RAF (OOB)
Stu replied to jenko's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Well done on getting it finished. You should be chuffed, it looks excellent. Interesting how it's come out after the discussions on colour, looks spot on. Stu Hope it brightened your day. Groan................! -
Hi, Thanks for that Patrick, those tweaks I can cope with doing :-) Stu
-
Thank you gents, your comments are appreciated. For the HF wire I am not sure the Mk XII had any This model Spitfire did not have aerial wires. That IS good news :-) Now very tempted with a Seafire XVII. Thanks Stu

Hi A couple of pics of my virtually completed Spit XII Far from perfect, I muffed the camo pattern for one thing, I am pleased with the finish. I did try to do some weathering by lightening the colour of some panel but with, if you'll excuse the pun, patchy results. The effect of the flash has washed them out even more. I thoroughly enjoyed building it though, went together well, enough detail for a satisfying OOB build and excellent decals. It's all Tamiya paint by the way. The exhausts are simply pushed in place as I'm toying with doing some more obvious exhaust staining. It could also really do with an aerial wire but I should have allowed for that before painting as it's a bit late to start drilling into the fin. Any critical comments or advice welcome. Thanks for looking Stu

Delta Dagger F-102A (Case X) 1:72 - Meng Models New Release
Stu replied to Mike's topic in Current News
Oh yes ! Dear Mr Xtradecal can you include a 57th FIS one on the sheet I'm sure you're going to do. Stu -
Nice unusual subject and the camouflage looks effective, very subtle. Kit decals ?? Well done. Stu

More commercially sound "bread and butter" stuff in 72nd that has a wide appeal plus the odd distinctly British highlight like a Wellington. Don't think anyone's mentioned the Beaufighter which has been listed in various forms since the last Ice Age. Now in dire need of replacement and has few competitors. 48th is where they seem to poking into the odd corners. Suspect we're Spit/Seafire'd out for the moment so logically you would expect the 50's to feature next, Vampire/venom/Meteor but they do have to account for hard commercial reality. Stu

Any available? Static 00 Kit of the A-4 Class?
Stu replied to Mike's topic in Locos, Trains and Layouts
Hi, AFAIK an A4 has never been done as a static kit. Hornby and Bachmann do Ready to Run ones. Hornby do a Railroad version A quick search http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&cp=17&gs_id=1u&xhr=t&q=hornby+railroad+a4&safe=off&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&biw=1058&bih=654&wrapid=tljp1344612515534032&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=5264280659900878966&sa=X&ei=rSglUM27AsaR0AXV-ICwCg&sqi=2&ved=0CEsQ8wIwAg Stu -
That's come out really well. Interesting your comment about the canopy definition as it was the weakest part of the recent Zero as far as I was concerned. Have just got one of these so your completed model will be a something of a benchmark. Cheers Stu

Getting further OT I know but in the spirit of the tower climb try this. Go to about 4 min in to skip the wish you were here bit. Stu

Nicely put together and an excellent weathered finish Dave. That makes for an interesting "first one" for the collection. At the risk of getting a probably well deserved response can I humbly suggest a nice base for it.......... Stu

Having just done one of their Weekend versions and then promptly buying another one as it was a fun build I'll be keeping an eye on this one. So far what you done looks like a masterclass in how to do it properly. Will you use the kit decals? Stu

Exemplary! Any comments on how it went together ? Stu

1/48 TSR 2, 617 Squadron, white anti-flash
Stu replied to jenko's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Very well done Mr J, a very plausible What-If Doing that amount of white would give me nightmares (or did you nip it down the local car respray shop!) Nice one Dick :-) Stu -
Hi, I can assure they've come out like that more by accident than design. I didn't find it an "easy" kit, for example to get the multiple part engine cowling 100% requires patience which is something I'm somewhat short on. Using DSG rather than EDSG was something I picked up on here though I blowed if I can remember where Tamiya OD though I made a serious attempt to add some variation by going over various panels with an OD+white mix. Thought I'd overdone it till I put the coat of Klear on when the effect all but vanished - oh well it's a learning curve. Getting quite to like the Airacobra and the more I learn about it the more I realise that it wasn't quite the lemon some make it out to be. Can thoroughly recommend the kit if you want to do a P39 and the Weekend versions seem to be good value. There's a really nice one here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...4918942&hl= Anyhow it's been a fun day and thanks for the support gents. Cheers Stu

First class and an interesting variation in the markings. It's also nice to see an really good model that hasn't had a bagful of etch and resin thrown at it. Stu
-
Hi, Thank you the replies Gents. Rather stupidly I was just repeating some comments from our club's resident expert and should have checked what he meant. Found this quite interesting http://www.cybermodeler.com/special/airacobra.shtml Seems there are some errors but not perhaps all that obvious. Having built both the Eduard and the Hase version on balance prefer the Czech example. Having done RAF, Soviet and USAAF ETO ones I'd quite like to do a US desert camouflage MTO one but can't find any decals or that much info. It'll be a question on here when I get round to it. There's a heck of a lot in the box and it is a bit intimidating but I'm sure it goes together well. I'll let you know! Cheers Stu

Hi, A couple of recent completions and plus the weather to take some half decent shots with my iffy compact. First up Eduards P39 Weekend edition in Soviet markings. I gather the kit has some major errors but for me if it quacks then......... Relatively painless to put together but the wing roots needed packing out though that was more likely to be me than the kit. Originally I was going to use some Aeromaster US markings but ended up being rather taken with the ones it came with. Also I've finally completed a Hellcat from their FAA combo boxing. My first real dabble with etch. Left the cockpit closed so you actually can't see much which is probably a good thing. Also my first use of Xtracrylics but I'm still not sure about them. I used DSG rather than EDSG as in most of the colour shots I've seen of these the shades look pretty washed out. Have to say both kits are excellent value so I've now got a couple more of their offerings in the stash, another P39 and a MiG 21. Cheers Stu

Wot no weverin'...........! Very nice Dick. Bet you can't wait for the Seafang. Stu
