Hurricane Mk 2c - Airfix 72nd OOB build
Stu replied to Stu's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thank you for the comments Gents :-) I couldn't make the meeting as we're knee deep in Grandchildren this week but will bring it and the Typhoon to the next one. Did use them as an excuse to go up to the Hornby shop where they've had a change round of things. Noticed the new Gladiator on the shelves plus some Vampires and also a few bargains such as a Gnat for £4. Sadly any expenditure wasn't in my direction....... :-( Cheers Stu -

Hurricane Mk 2c - Airfix 72nd OOB build
Stu replied to Stu's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thank you for all the positive feedback Gents, glad I posted the pics now. I've invested a few bob in a handful of Airfix's cheaper more recent offerings - the factory shop is a couple of miles away - simply to try to improve and attempt some new things out. Have a Typhoon nearly done. That was interesting so perhaps I'll post a pic or two. Found it a very different animal from the Hurri. Thanks Stu -
Hi, I seem to remember this kit came in for a certain amount of negative comment when it was released. Apart from the "matchbox" panel lines there were evidently other issues depending on which review you were looking at. What they did agree on was that it was looked be a straightforward build. And it was. Built out-of-the-box with the kit decals the only addition was some very basic tape belts. There were no real issues putting the thing together and my only problem was masking the canopy. Partly due to my own laziness in not ensuring the masking was burnished down well some primer leaked under the edges, quite obviously in places. The canopy framing is also a tad vague, for me at least, so I resorted to tape framing. Finished using Tamiya paints I tried a bit of pre-shading (again!) and was moderately pleased at the result this time. As a model it'll never win any prizes but won't look bad on the back of Club stand and I enjoyed building it which was the point in the first place - wasn't it............ Cheers Stu

1/48 - Westland Wessex HAS.3 by Italeri - released
Stu replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
So do I then I can do something from 771 sqn or 772 sqn. Hopefully they'll be some decent decals in the offing. What we could really do with is the old 72nd Modeldecal sheets done in 48th. Stu -
Hi, Seems to be out now http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/revell-fairey-gannet-04845-p-45938.html Stu

That's very good. I've just finished a Hobbyboss IIIC in AdA Djibouti colours and interested to note your comments on the fit issues. I understand the Hobbyboss one is, shall we say, a close relative of the Eduard one and the fit is equally niggling. Did get it finished but nowhere near as good as yours. One observation though the panel lines look sharper when compared to the Hobbyboss one. Very nice Stu

Saw it briefly in the bag and it looks to be the new one. Stu

Another stunning model Arkady. Can I ask how you mask up for the different colours ? Stu

Didn't Airfix say that they had things planned out to 2017 already. If so we're wasting our breath. But for what it's worth - BEAUFIGHTER Stu

Hi, Thank you to everyone for their kind comments. Andrew, thank you for confirming I got the scheme right, one less b*lls up to my name! Miggers, with Dick around I doubt there is room for another but I am very tempted by a SEAC XIV Col I'll see what I can do about some more photo's but it's something I need to get better at. Dave100TR advised me to take these shots at a resolution close to uploading size, i.e. quite low res and that's what I did. It seems to have worked but suspect I also need much better lighting. Cheers Stu

Italeri Tornado 1/72 (First Kit)
Stu replied to roberth19812's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Ditto all the above. Whose paints did you use ? Stu -
After enjoying the Spit XII dived straight into the Seafire. Thanks to Miggers for pointing me in te way of other builds. Very useful and I hadn't realise quite how popular it was, there must be at leat a dozen builds on RFI already. Hopefully mine doesn't look too shabby amongst them. Completely OOB apart from some slightly unconvincing tape belts. I did get some Eduard etched ones but (a) couldn't figure out the right ones to use and ( got a bit confused by the instructions. Did drill out the exhausts which makes one heck of a difference and attempted a couple of other "firsts". Finished in the Air Warfare scheme which appealed to me more than the others it's the grey/slate scheme but I seem to remember somewhere that there was some talk it actually should have been on EDSG overall. My second go with Xtracrylics. Slowly getting the hang of them. Any comments, advice or brickbats welcome. Thanks for looking Stu

I really like that, a great job. Did you do anything special to the tyres ? Lovely work on what I think is a great kit - much better than Hasegawa's - interesting, can I ask why Encourages me to dig mine out and have a go. Stu -
Excellent, you've made a great job of this. Always nice to see a 57th FIS aircraft. Going to an F-15 to go with it ? Stu
