Hi, Keef, thank you for the comments and sorry for not getting back to you sooner but been away. As for the Whirlwind I used the Italeri S55 kit which does have the cranked boom. http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=IT1267 Either they or Revell did a straight boomed version useful for an early version. For the conversion I used the Airwaves bits but I think Heritage do something similar. It's a bit scary having to chop off large chunks of the fuselage but it works very well and if i can do it etc,etc............! I've done a number of RN Wessex's in 72nd but always fancied a go at one either one of those or a Whirlwind in 48th. I'm hopeful that one day we will get some decent kits of "Heritage" helo's in quarter scale - maybe next year.............? I'm tempted to say that we had more sense but that would be factually and politically incorrect. I've alway been a bit suprised that Portugal never got any but whether they would have been any use to them or not is a moot point. I've only ever seen one "What-if" RAF Starfighter done up in grey/green/silver camouflage in 70's markings. I think the Aussies got very near to getting 104's before they decided on the Mirage. That would make an interesting flight of fancy. Anyhow thanks for all the comments. My present project is stalled awaiting delivery of that most valuable of add-ons - time Cheers Stu

Oh bu**er!, thanks for that, will stick a post-it on the wing to remind myself. Cheers Stu

Hi, Thanks for putting the photo up A.M. I'm struck by how "clean" it looks though that may be due to the rather poor looking weather. Have managed to get on and get the fuselage+wings done. So far no filler thank goodness just some cleaning and polishing up of some joints. I've got a set of micromesh pads but usually revert back to my usual of kitchen towel. Always surprises me just how good it is at cleaning up sanded joints. Got a frantic week coming up so it'll have to go on ice for a few days. Cheers |Stu

Hi, I'm beginning to realise that! Thanks to everyone for their input Ted's model will give me something to aspire to. Welcome to the form Wild Weasel I haven't been on here long and soon discovered that not having both oars in the water seems to be a pre-requisite! - it's a great place ! I've seen a pic of their grey/artic red T33 but not of any camo'ed ones. This could end up being a lifetimes project I'm now trying to track down some F102 decals now to put in the stash........ A little progress in that I've got the cockpit done. Apologies for lousy pic, SWMBO has gone off for the day with my camera While I'm here a question that someone may be able to answer - the Sparrow missiles - white or grey for the late 70's? Edit - found pic of a F-4 taken in 1980 - missiles were white. Cheers Stu

Hi, That's very nice! If you hadn't mentioned the scale I would have assumed 1/48th. Cheers Stu

Hi, I was aware of this site and did put a link to it in my first post I didn't copy any of the pics as I'm not sure if there would be any copyright issues. It's an informative site with some good stuff on it but I think the links are bit naff though his English is infintely better than my Icelandic! It has been my primary resource but I've learnt some more since posting on here. Thanks for the links and the info Andrew, looks like I'll be researching what Sidewinder rails look like Rather jealous of your patch collection................! Cheers Stu

Hi, Thanks for the responses Guys, sounds like I'm in good company. I didn't know that Keef The only pics I have easy access to are on the website. I took them to be "publicity" shots and did notice that the only Sidewinder in evidence was a training round. Does this mean they only carried Sparrow when on alert. The few shots I've seen of them next to Bears are too far away to show what missiles they're carrying. Andrew, I'm showing my complete ignorance here but what is/are Smoke Trails - I don't remember seeing these, is it a mag?? Any chance of some photos? I prefer the ADC grey to SEA camouflage but always assumed it was considered a bit boring, obviously not Having said that if this goes well I might be tempted by one of their chequertailed F-4C's but I've never seen any decals. Cheers Stu

Hi, I'm sure yours will be a heck of lot better than mine ! I've more or less decided to raid the spares box for the aircraft number and do one shown in the pics. You could put it at the top of your to do list so I can follow what you're doing - that'll take the agro out it for me Cheers Stu

Hi, Have got together the kit and decals for latest project. I don't suppose there are many on here who haven't seen a Hase 1/48th F4 so I'll just leave it at the box lid and a shot of the deacls from Experts Choice. I think they've been around for ages but looking at them can't fault the quality. I'd love to chuck some resin and etch at it but modelling on a bit of a budget I'll make do with what comes in the box. Hopefully the end result will be something like the ones here- http://www.verslo.is/baldur/Blackknigths.htm Cheers Stu

Hi, I agree. It's always good to see Sabres in less usually done markings. Stu
-
Hi, They look very nice. Are the markings painted on ? I see you're doing a Stuka, any plans for a Merlin engined 111? Cheers Stu
-
Exactly! Thats looks very nice and if you hadn't said what kit you used I wouldn't have guessed in a million years ! Cheers Stu
-
Hi, Thats veeeery nice! Also good to see a Sabre in a rarely done scheme. Whose decals ? Cheers Stu

Hi, I thought getting hold of a Revell one would be relatively easy but no luck at local shop. Ended up having a look at the traders bit on here and have got one from Relish models very reasonably. As to what I intend to do well it's a bit boring compared to your selection but it's really about what it is rather than how it looks. See about 1/3 way down the page http://www.verslo.is/baldur/Blackknigths.htm Cheers Stu

Thank you, you've just answered a question I'd only thought about asking - you must be Psychic Cheers Stu

Hi, Thanks for that Joel, a Hase F4-E has now been sourced and bought. I'll try to live up to your standard!!! The JSDAF one looks amazing. Many thanks Stu
-
Hi, Anyone got any opinions on the best 48th F-4E kit available at the moment. Thanks in anticipation. Cheers Stu
-
Hi, That's a great model you've done there but how on earth have you done the defying gravity bit? I can only imagine a pin through the prop????? Cheers Stu
-
Hi, It's featured in a colour picture on Page 1 of the Warpaint Gannet book. HTH Stu

Hi, I agree, it's nice to see some variations from the USN schemes, well done. Cheers Stu

Hi, We were holidaying in Iceland at the end of May and I didn't see anything when we taxied past the military bit of Keflavik when we landed. But one afternoon when we were in the Blue Lagoon, which is not far from the airport, I did hear something that sounded very un-civil go over but could'nt see because of the weather. When we left there was something by the mil hangars but only got a glimpse. Not sure if this is related but we were staying just up the road from the Foreign Ministry, lots of limo's one morning and there were a number of Americans staying at the hotel who were apparently there for some international conference. I'm quite tempted to do an M2000 now knowing that. Good post Antoine. Cheers Stu

Hi, Many thanks for the kind comments Gents. I have to confess to cringeing when I looked at my post again - apart from my rather dubious photographic skills my patio slabs don't seem to be up to the normal Britmodeller standard! So I've had a another go. This is another Hase 48th one but a Dutch TF104G Apologies as the picture looks a bit dark even though it was taken outdoors. Perhaps one day I'll get the hang of things This was my second go at using acrylics and I'd plucked up the courage to use 3 colours this time. However I made at least one major blunder on it. I can only plead a senior moment but it's ended up with a totally ficticious number - I'll build an Airfix MiG 15 as penance!! While I'd cheerfully build build Starfighters till they come to collect me I do do other things. It's the Italeri S-55 with the Airwaves HAR9 conversion done up as an Osprey SAR cab. Again many thanks for the comments. Cheers Stu

Hi, my first post on Britmodeller after being a "lurker" for a few months. I'm not exactly a prolific modeller and don't pretend to be an expert on anything but I enjoy my modelling which I suppose is what all this is about. Always had a soft spot for 104's so here a Hase 48th one I've done in Spanish markings. Decals are a mongrel bunch including some from a Spanish firm that are probably 20 years old and whose name I've lost and forgotten - just had some bits left. Have a couple of sheets for Spanish 104's and was surprised at the variations in sizes of roundels, side number etc. It's finished in acrylics which is something I've only recently tried hence the nice simple scheme! Cheers Stu
