  1. Great build, the paint finish is fantastic and smooth, really like it
  2. Cracking build is that Andy. It's always put me off this kit that the body panels are all separate Knowing me I'd end up with great big glue fingerprints all ove the bodywork
  3. Lovely build Gaz. I fancy attempting one of these kits but as you say their reputation proceeds them. What were the decals like to apply.
  4. Thanks looking and for the comments really appreciated
  5. Pick away its constructive observations like you've made that will help me to improve and I'm all for that👍👍 This is a next step for me to add a bit more realism to the models I make. I also need to attempt some weathering
  6. Thanks Gaz. I've been looking at other bike Kits and really fancied the Ducati 1199 S Tricolore alth6i haven't bought it yet. What I did do though was buy another R1 to dominate the red/white colour scheme
  7. Thanks for the encouragement Ian, really appreciated
  8. And my last completed build, an AMT 58 Epdsel Pacer. Rather than using the airbrush o this I attempted using spray cans from Halfords (Ford Red) This kit was more difficult to put together than all of the others and required a lot of sanding and filling to make it look presentable. It should really have been a 2 tone white with red side panels and roof, but I got disturbed removing the masking after I'd painted the red and when I went back ther was red paint everywhere it shouldn't have been So I just decided to spray the whole lot red. No polishing or clear coat was applied as I didn't want to tempt fate and I think it came out well Thanks for looking at my modest collection, I'm currently midway though a F1 Ferrari but it's been slow going at the moment due to it being summer holidays and plenty of work needing done around the house. And finally a couple of interior shots before everything was glued together
  9. 3rd build I tried to get a bit adventurous. Decals everywhere Most went on OK apart from the two around the rear bumper, here it is just before I installed the antenna. A real step learning curve, the decals didn't put me off because I went out and bought the Toyota Tom's Supra as soon as I'd finished this one, however I've not been brave enough to start it yet
  10. Onto the second completed build and it was a really nice kit. Simple even for a novice like me, again nothing fancy just out of the box and again using Tamiya acrylic paints airbrushed. I really like this one and enjoyed putting it together
  11. Well it's been a few months now since I first registered and completely messed up my first two kits. Disheartened and feeling sorry for myself I decided to go away and practice without the pressure of having to post updates and progress pictures. The result was my first completed build. Nothing fancy straight out of the box using Tamiya acrylic paints through my airbrush. The eagle eyed may spot the missing decal on the fairing and the incorrect position of the Yamaha decals on the fuel tank but other than that it's not too bad (for me) So that's the first one I completed and there are 3 more I will upload shortly
  12. Thanks Ian really appreciate that, and thanks for the tips on the masking
  13. Cheers, will be interesting to see how that goes using the lacquer thinner I reckon I'd be better leaving this until the weekend at least. I future I'd be better starting the bodywork before the rest of the kit so I've got something to build during drying time. I've got a couple of other kits but didn't really want more than one build on the go at any time
  14. Thanks Pete, at one point I thought it was never going to be presentable but a bit of perseverance and some fine grit sanding pads/paper meant that I managed to bring it back from the disaster zone for the second time
  15. Have to say I'm pretty pleased with that, it just needs a gloss coat now. There were a few problems along the way. In addition to completely stripping and re painting as mentioned in the previous posts the blue wasn't completely dry even though it had been left for 3 days and when the masking came off there were marks in the paint where it had been Has anyone else had this problem with the Tamiya acrylics. I also managed to get a fingerprint in one of the doors A bit of wet sanding and re spraying and this is what I ended up with Time to leave it alone now for a few days before clear and chrome trim
  16. Looking good already mate. I think Alan’s point about the black under the metallic colour is a good one as I’ve seen loads of people on You Tube videos and online groups do this, something I will probably do on my next project.
  17. You must have a crystal ball. Went to put another coat of metallic blue on and the airbrush just splattered all over the boot. There must have been a blockage, and it must have been in the paint as I'd done a thorough clean on the brush yesterday. So rather than attempting to sand out, I stripped the entire body, re primed and re painted, so I'm no further forward than I was yesterday, but the situation has been redeemed
  18. Don't speak too soon, that went ok, the roof wasn't painted as it will be black not metallic blue, another coat tomorrow when its fully dried and it may just be a reasonable effort 🤞
  19. Great build and you got lovely shine on the paintwork, love it
  20. Primed and wet sanded, if the colour turns out half as good I'll be well happy
  21. What an amazing piece of model engineering, thanks for sharing with us
  22. Managed to recover the situation somewhat following my accident with the glue, you can see some slight damage to the parcel shelf and the close up on the dash resembles crazy paving under the magnifier, but from a distance and when the body is on hopefully it will be ok Big lesson learned though about keeping the work area tidy and putting lids back on containers when I’m done. which is what it's all about with these initial builds I guess.
  23. The moral of Todays story is never just think I’ve got a spare 10 minutes I’ll just put a few pieces together. The end result was a container of Tamiya extra thin all over the place and the painted dashboard covered in the stuff Fortunately I’d not applied the decals to the dash or detailed it. It’s in an IPA bath as I type ready to be re painted. No real lasting damage I don’t think and it could have been worse as the door panels were next to the dash and had been fully painted and detailed And we do this to relax 😬
