  1. The resin catapult kit is bloody big enough--wot size would the ship be eh???? Edit--just answered my own question again---24.78 ft approx!
  2. Yup, you're right there Andy. The only problems I've come across so far are the lack of side panels in the rear cockpit and the join lines for the rear cockpit glazing---on the 'glass' section not the frame. The 'glass' will need a bit of thought re assembly methinks.
  3. Andy I take you're point re the Revell decal schemes. I only thought that, as I intend to do the Tirpitz markings--the standard scheme would apply. This is an aircraft that was solely launched from a capital ship--not semi land based or whatever. But there you go, wot do I know
  4. Right then---I think I've answered my own question and Revell ARE wrong. In the Classic Colours series---Luftwaffe Colours----Sea Eagles Vol 1----by Chris Goss--- Pages 80/81 side profiles with the caption, and I quote--"standard splinter scheme of RLM 72/73 with RLM light blue underneath". Any thoughts again?
  5. I've been having a fondle of my kit and am most impresed I have to say. One thing however has me a bit puzzled and that is the main camouflage call-outs. Revells instructions state using RLM 70/71/65 but I would have thought, given the Arado was a maritime plane, it would have been RLM 72/73/65. Any thoughts?
  6. Humbrol 78 interior green is you're man---slightly dark but pretty good. Alternatively--try WEM's interior green--lovely stuff and a good bit lighter. Those of course are enamels which I use, can't help you with acrylics I'm afraid.
  7. Wonderful!! That's the kit that got me started on 'string' ships donkeys year ago. Then I followed it up years later with the Heller one. (Bit Larger) Then I built another Heller one---now I've got my 3rd one--- Be warned, you have started down a narrow and slippery slope my lad. When you've completed it, and you're next in the LMS, you'll be looking around and there it will be---The Heller jobbie--and you'll think---"hhhhmmm, might have a go at that---and then my young padwan you will be lost--lost I tell you lostttttt
  8. Whooooooo!!! It arrived this morning--11.30 Wot a little beauty--simply great! Clipped off the two main body halves to check fit, distortion etc----'click'---as the parts simply snicked together. NO warping or any other distortion. Long time since I've offered up one fuselage half to the other and had that effect! Bodes well for the rest especially as a quick squint at the sprues shows straight runners and no apparent distortion---always a good indicator for the parts within the frames that one. Many thanks to Graham at Relish Models---well done that man, and to the Royal Mail for finally getting of there a**es and delivering it. Most of all to Airfix---superb job of an aircraft I've always considered to be one of the most beautifully shaped. Yesss!!!
  9. Buggar! I got my 'despatched' e-mail from Graham at Relish Models dated the 3rd and I'm still waiting for the Royal Mail to get there act together! One can only dribble for so long before serious dehydration sets in!
  10. Go for it Chris! Anyhoo--as two new carriers are being built and won't have any planes to go on them---the superbug might be not be a what-if!

    1/72 'Dora' !

AND---you can put on a santa suit and nobody will say----'wots in that sack santa'----cunning or wot!!!!

    1/72 'Dora' !

Hey Daz! Yeah, I'm fighting that little voice in the back of your head, you the one---NOOOOOO! Did you click on the detail pic link? Very nice indeed. How long is to Christmas now?

    1/72 'Dora' !

Netmerchants are advertising this here--- 1/72 Dora 1111mm long!! £125 Mmmmmm
  14. I don't really think that 'stealth' had even been thought of to much back then. Lets face it, the real race was for speed--who could get to mach 1 first etc. And of course, radar was still in it's, comparative, infancy. I am still struck as to the resemblance of the Horten to that picture, can't get over it!
  15. "I can't remember if they said that it was flown in the US when it was taken over there, but what I thought was interesting when looking at the shape of the HO-229 was that it looked a bit like the description that Kenneth Arnold gave of the UFO(s) he allegedly encountered over the Cascade mountains in 1947..." I think you may well have opened a large can of worms there Karl Wonder if anyones thought of that before? Uncanny resemblance to the pic isn't it
  16. Definitely mixing I would agree. I use my badger paint mixer purchased from Graham at Relish models for mixing, (best modelling aid I ever got!), and thin with 'Baufix' thinners I got from Lidl's. Slightly of topic but that stuff is amazing! I've thinned humbrol, xtracolor, revell, WEM colourcoats and model master in the original containers without any problems even after long term storage. None of that gundgy stuff you get with normal thinners. It contains xylene which is the basis of many an airbrush cleaner. Back to the mattcote---stir and stir and stir------------
  17. Just noticed that over on HYperscale here---- Interior there are some nice piccies of the interior. Looks rather nice!
  18. Great! Squadron stuff is usually pretty reliable, go for it! Couple of points to watch in your build---the assembly of the cockpit glazing and location of the instrument panel need a bit of care, bit fiddly as is the placing of the glazing sealant decals, (the thin black striping), these were actually on the interior on the real aircraft but they look ok on the exterior. Also, the inner faces of the engine nacelles is a pretty tricky paint job if assembled, I painted these faces before fixing the nacelles in place. Another thing I just remembered---add rudder pedal cables, Some stretched sprue, glued to the front of these assemblies and then bent down and underneath into the fuselage with about a 1/8" radius curve. These are very noticeable thro the extensive glazing and the addition of a couple of pieces of stretched sprue makes a big difference to the final appearance. Good luck with the build! Gordon
  19. Mark, your main problem will be the canopy/windscreen assembly. To allow for the radar antenna, there are apertures in the front section. Later issues may contain a 'blank' part but, in the kit I purchased, there was no 'blank' part--only the part with the apertures. Could be filled somehow I suppose but traces would be left. Also, you would have to source non-nightfighter decals. Gordon
  20. Thank you all! I've bitten the rather large bullet and ordered my beastie from a VERY nice chap not unknown on this forum. Rather looking forward to this one, a feeling I've not had in a while. Seatbelts---not a problem, Mr. Eduard will supply, decals, not a problem---aftermarket already ordered, knobs, switches and cables not a problem---used to doing these meself anyway, luv detailing cockpits! All in all, quite an entertaining way to spend a (large) number of Autumnal evenings. OOOps! Just remembered, I forgot to tell my supplier to remove any price tags---musn't have 'she who must be obeyed' seeing any of them eh? Har-har Oh and 487, not at all bad for a 'bog standard OOB buid' mate!
  21. As per the title---thinking of raiding me bank for this one---what are the pro's and cons then? I know there are build threads but I'm hoping for some quick answers--also, wot size is it? I keep seeing words like 'huge' and 'beast' etc but no actual dimensions. Oh, and ejection pin marks don't bother me, not after building a few Trumpeter models! Thanks in advance!
  22. Welcome to the forums Phil!! You'll like it here---we're all insane, to one degree or another
  23. Thanks for that Julien. The only thing I'm still unsure about is that the rear hook, (?), seems to be in the same shuttle/hook slot as the front one. I suppose, it would then be on the C/L so there wouldn't be any side stress involved. I didn't think it was part of the normal shuttle/hook assy as I worked on them and don't remember anything like that.
