Stunning. Had to check twice that it was 1/72 scale, I thought it was much bigger. -

Somebody had an identical X1 in the competition today. Even the mirror base was similar. Spooky 😊 -

Amazing!! Just when you think you have seen everything along comes something even better! The bar has moved even further from my lowly station. -
It can't be April 1st already surely? Please someone tell me they are not models. Makes me feel my poor efforts are even more shonky than I knew already 😞 superb 👍👍

Me too! I spent ages trying to get a winter finish like this on a tank diorama a while back and never got it this good.

Falklands Harrier Gr.3. 1/72 Airfix.
Matt P replied to Habu12's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
nicely done sir 👍 -
Well I gave the underside a blast with some rattle can Halford gloss clear varnish and....................... Hey presto the frosting completely disappeared! Thanks for the tips guys 👍. Managed to destroy a few decals when it first happened and tried washing it in a blind panic, but I think I can replace most from the stash. Sighs of relief all round 😁

Just as I was on the home straight and applying the final coat of Tamiya semi gloss clear this happened! Never happened before and I am at a loss as to why. Black paint was from Xtracrylix, then a coat of klear after the decals were applied. Then lastly a coat of Tamiya semi gloss thinned with Tamiya thinners. Bang, white marks all over the model. Any ideas please? Those of a sensitive disposition may want to look away

Falklands Phantom FGR.2 1/72 Airfix
Matt P replied to Habu12's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Nice job. Just built this same kit myself and not as simple as it was made out to be. Looks good in the light grey too. I was in two minds which scheme to go for and ended up doing the 2 sqn version instead. -
Very nice 👍 if you fancy doing a tutorial on your method for jet exhaust painting I'm in
-
Hmm, I bit too chewed for that methinks. Annoyingly nobody offers a replacement canopy for the Revell or other 1/72 Tornado either, so a new kit is needed. Oh well plenty of spare s I suppose. just ordered a Pavla vacform canopy (designed for Italeri kits) so we'll see how that goes
-
cool thanks guys👍 Just had a minor complication in that the dog has just eaten the front windscreen. had it before it hit the floor the little b*********d!
-
Intending to paint the 1/72 Revell GR1 in 16 Sqn 75th Anniversary black colour(s). However nowhere can I find any mention of things like wheel well colours on this aircraft. All the many photos I can find don't show the main gear wells or nose wheel in any detail,so......... Were they light grey like the rest f the GR1 fleet or did they spray them black when the painted the special scheme? Thank you in advance
-
Hannants do a replacement vacform canopy for the F15A/C models so you may be able to use that? It's designed for hasegawa kits but should be able to make it fit maybe? Their part number is falcon FNCV5428.

great build. Did you dip the canopy? It looks really clear and bright. -
Some of the 'scrap' Lightnings ended up as decoys at the runway threshold at Laarbruch in the mid to late 70's. Not sure if this was one of them but all were painted green. If memory serves correctly there were 6-8 of them lined up, although to be honest I don't think they would have fooled anyone.
-
Hi Colin, I was on the Police flight at Laarbruch from 77-81 then Bruggen from 81-85. Believe it or not when I arrived at Laarbruch we didn't even have combat clothing, you could wear it if you had it but you had to scrounge it! We only got 'professional' in around 1978/9 with proper clothing and tactics etc. We still had SMG's when I left Bruggen in 85 and I'm pretty sure Tornadoes were in before I left Laarbuch, although I remember we did consume copious amounts of alcohol in the club so I may be very confused
-
Great work, If you want units for Buccaneers then 15 & 16 Sqn were at Laarbruch along with 2 (AC) sqn flying Phantoms then Jaguars. Tornados took over from around 1980 if I remember correctly. Bloodhounds at Laarbruch were operated by 25 Sqn when I was there (77-81) By the way, your airfield security guys should be RAF Police not Regiment, so would have had SMG's instead of SLR rifles

I think you may be right about the 540lb bomb. The kit bombs look very similar in shape to these.
-
Hi Guys, Thanks for the feedback. These look too small to be 1000lb bombs and the shape is a bit indistinct, so I might end up ordering some resin replacements before long. I intend to do this as a 2 squadron recce Phantom so no sidewinders or sparrows on, just some dumb bombs and the recce pod. Any recommendations for resin items? I was thinking maybe these would be more appropriate? https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/RS72-0108

The Airfix FGR2 comes with a plethora of munitions including these finned bomb that share mounting pylons with the Sidewinders (Top centre pics on the instructions). They seem too small to be CBU's but the instructions give no clue as to what they are or what colour they should be etc (I assume dark green but not sure what colour bands etc should be there?). The instruction shown is actually the FGR1 but these particular bombs are the same in the FGR2 pack (No SNEBS in the FGR2 though). Airfix supply a huge colour print and decals detailing colours and markings on every other weapon/missile but these. Any ideas?

Thanks. You learn something new every day All the Phantoms left Laarbruch the year before I arrived so have never seen that 'in the flesh' before. I had to 'put up' with 4 years of Buccs and jaguars roaring around, which was no hardship really.
