  1. Were you not tempted to enter this build in the current FAA group build Crisp? Or do you doubt it will be finished by November? 😉 Mike
  2. Very sad, I saw her at the Shaftesbury Theatre (IIRCC) back in the day, she was 19, dressed in a cropped top, tutu and DMs but her phenomenal voice was unforgettable… Mike
  3. I’ve always liked the subtle detailing of SH compared to the Corgi panel lines of Airfix, can you provide a link to your fix to the SH wing problem please Troy? Mike
  4. Excellent as ever Neil and love the figures too. Mike
  5. Beautiful result Mike. Metallic finish looks spot on. Mike
  6. Nice choice Peter, takes me back to my yoof, it was the same boxing as well and cracking box art. Mike
  7. The original Grand Phoenix release had better options for markings: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/grand-phoenix-kt001-fairey-firefly-mki--122272 Mike
  8. However the 806 scheme shown here is the later EDSG over white. Mike
  9. Cracking choice, good luck. Just remember to fill in the panel lines on the wings as they didn’t exist. Mike
  10. Excellent result Chris, I feel your abilities are improving with every model! Mike
  11. Considering the price of the kit the book is worth every penny. Mike
  12. Nice choice Jon, out of interest how long is the hull, I imagine it’s a nice size to work on? Mike
  13. See below: https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205134636 https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205121265 Mike
  14. Excellent all round; model and photography. Mike
  15. According to The Story of 609 Squadron by their Intelligence Officer Frank Ziegler, the weather was bad that day with a thick layer of haze at 2-3,000 feet which assisted the evacuation at Dunkirk, and prevented the Luftwaffe from flying. 609 patrolled for an hour. Ziegler says it was a combination of poor weather and low fuel that led to Ayre spinning into the ground at an explosive works at Oakley. L1086 is listed as the Spit in question elsewhere in the book but no code is given. Mike
  16. According to the excellent book Dambusters by Piotr Forkasiewicz and Mark Postlethewaite the mine was red oxide overall with some numbers chalked on the end, too small for 1/72nd perhaps. Yes unfortunately Barlow’s Lancaster was the first to take off and the first lost and the mine was ripped from its underside intact for the Germans to inspect. Once again, superb model Isak, and a fitting tribute. Mike
  17. Lovely result Isak and nice to see Barlow’s machine being modelled. As his aircraft was delivered on the 1st May and flown for approximately 23 hours before the fateful night then the level of weathering is, I would say, pretty much spot on as photos do show some exhaust staining on similarly new airframes at 617 soon after Chastise. As Barlow’s upkeep was ripped off and found by the Germans it was documented by them as being red oxide in colour, although not all of the other mines can be assumed to be as such. Mike
  18. Oh ok I didn’t realise there are two modelling groups in Poole! Mike
  19. As my memory is now shot care of COVID brain fog I think it must’ve been around 85/86? It was there with Ashanti inboard and Falmouth outboard of her. Derry was used as accommodation and had portacabins on the flight deck as classrooms. I have considered Poole Scale Modellers for a while and go to the annual show when I can, missed it this year due to work, but at present lacking mojo with all things modelling. Mike
  20. Cracking result Chewy, I’m having flash backs to the time I spent on her as a Harbour Training Ship at Priddys Hard in Gosport! 😂 Mike
