Whilst browsing topics a couple of months ago I read a few posts from members talking about Shawn Hulls products available at www.shull24.com I went and had a look and last week ordered some bits for an upcoming Hobby Boss A-10 build. The parts took about 7 days to arrive from the US and I was highly impressed with the resin weapons and update set that were delivered. The parts come with clear instructions explaining where to fit, painting and decal markings. I bought a Sniper pod and was impressed with the way it all just slid together, very clever. Highly recommended.

I take it the PR-9's out in the next few days, Hannants still have it as a future release but there's one being flogged on e-bay as a 'Buy it Now' price!

Their doing the same thing with the Airfix GR1/3 kit and the Heller French A version. It was mentioned in a topic a few months back.
-
I believe it's the same idea as the Jaguar there doing, it's the Airfix moulds (full kit) with added Eduard bits (plastic & etched) to add more detail and correct area's on the original kit. Sure I read somewhere that the Lightning was originaly to be out this year but has been put back to next spring.

Thanks for the replies guys, bought a copy of Fred Martins, Lightning Force in which there's a picture of a 19 Sqn aircraft at Gutersloh in 1972. The undercarriage legs appear an off silver / pale gold colour and the caption reads "It has an application of protective lacquer on the undercarriage, this being a common feature on many of Gutersloh's Lightnings". Glad I found this as the kit instructions would have you paint everything gold!!

Well the kit arrived the other day and it looks pretty stunning for an Airfix kit, (haven't been near an Airfix kit in over 10 years), the parts are flash free and the detail very sharp, the wings look to be warp free too! I've purchased a few extras as well, Aires cockpit, Eduard detail set and Aeroclub nose weight, undercarriage and nose ring. I was also pleasantly surprised by the decal sheet which looks good other than a few blemishes. The one problem, however, after deciding (I think) to go with an F2A of 92 Sqn in the all green scheme the aircraft serial number is missing from the sheet, the clear decal film is there but nothing printed on it! The instruction sheet also says that the 92Sqn machine should have gold coloured wheel wells and doors, I'm assuming this is a Sqn "thing", can anyone tell me if this applies to all 92 Sqn aircraft?

What a super smooth clean finish, lovelly. Thanks for showing Greg.

Photo's retaken with daylight, better results but think I'll have to invest in some blue card (Cheers Eng)!

Thank you all for your kind comments and pointers, it's safe to post pics here after all!! The natural metal inner tailplane parts are actually seperate colours it's just a combination of crap photography and too much weathering, I'm going to try and gets some shots in natural light over the next few days. The Aries bits were superb, although I felt the exhaust cans could have been a slightly better fit, they appeared a wee bit too small in diameter as I had to fill a few gaps with plastic card. The Airdoc decals were superb and I would highly recommend their book on RAF Phantoms in Germany which goes with the decals, loads of great photo's and profiles of all the Sqn and colour schemes. You'll notice I did have a wee problem right at the end where I pulled some decal of the starboard side of the RWR fairing on the tail while masking for the sensors, it's going to be a bugger to match the paint and touch up . I'm hoping Two Mikes are going to produce some British Toom intake covers to finish it off, thanks again.

Hello My first posting of one of my finished products, it's the Revell 1/48 Phantom FGR-2 with Aries cockpit, exhaust cans and Airdoc decals. It was also my first time using my new Harder & Steenbeck Evolution airbrush, so lots of firsts here! The photo's ain't great and I may try again with some natural light. Any tips or pointers greatfully received.

I've never seen any photo's and don't think this would be a plausible loadout. Storm Shadow is a stand off weapon as apposed to guided bomb units which pretty much require an over flight of the target. Nothing to stop you doing it if it takes your fancy, space could be problem though the SS is quite a big missile.

I've found one of my old Scale Aviation Modeller's from 2006 with an article on the Airfix kit. It's a build by Tony Gloster in which he talks about the warped wings and there's a head on shot of the finished kit which shows it quite clearly, I'll need to watch out for that. There's also lots of side profiles with all the differant colour schemes. I'm now struggling to decide between the all green, green/grey and light grey. Great link by the way Bill. The only problem I can see is the decals aint supposed to be that great and there doesn't seem to be many (if any) sheets produced in 1/48 for the later colour schemes.

Thanks for the help guys, was bidding for an Airfix 1/48 kit on ebay and somehow managed to win it, woo hoo I originally thought it was just the F6 variant but you can actually build the F6 and F2A, so should be able to do the green scheme afterall!! Is there any problems etc I should watch for with this kit?
-
Thanks guys, just after posting I remembered about another site where I found lots of Photo's of.... F2A's! Whats the external differance's to the F2A and the F6?
-
Hi Can any of you well informed Lightning experts out there tell me if it was the F6 mark that wore the dark green paint scheme? I'm also looking to find out what the colours were and which Sqn used this scheme (I think it was around the same time as they went Barley Grey) as I can't seam to find any pictures of it in these colours. Thanks for any help.

Don Thanks for the reply, I'd read somewhere about this company but they appear to be no longer as you say. Cheers Muzz

Seen some great looking Indian Air Force Su-30MKI's in a magazine I bought recently and was looking at the possibility of building one in 1/48. I'd thought about getting a hold of an Academy Su-27UB kit but was wondering if anyone knows of a conversion set for the older model or the updated one's with the canard foreplanes? I've searched Hannants etc with no joy.

Jabba I'm just finishing my FGR-2 and noticed the differance in size between the roundels, the kit decals (Revell) are just under 5mm in diameter and the Airdoc decals I used are about 6mm. I also have the Xtradecal sheet your using and on comparing these with the Airdoc ones there the same size but the Airdoc one's are IMHO the correct colour with a perfect register. I used the RAF Germany sheet which are currently sold out at Hannants but they do have this sheet in stock http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=AIRS4901 Problem is I don't know if this contains the roundels, try giving them a phone to find out. Hope this helps, Muzz.

Graham Me too, been waiting on getting my hands on an FG-1. Muzz

I have to admit I've never really got the thing about the TSR-2 and dare I say it I don't think it's a very attractive aircraft. I've heard lot's of stories about how it was ahead of it's time but was there any proof that it was going to be any good as a strike platform?
-
I'm lucky enough to have one of the boxings with the two kits inside and it has a bulged and flat door in it, I think the newer kit with the decals for the Navy version will have both also.

Rab The colours for the GR4 should be Dark Sea Grey (BS381C 638, Xtracrylix XA1004) upper surfaces over Dark Camo Grey (BS381C629, Xtracrylix XA1036) lower surfaces and the F3 would be Camouflage Grey (BS626, Xtracrylix XA1017) upper surfaces with RAF Light Aircraft Grey (BS627, Xtracrylix XA1015) underside. The latest scheme for all REF fast jets being REF Medium Sea Grey (BS 637, Xtracrylix XA1003) all over. Hope this eases your frustration!

If anyones looking for this weapons set (JDAM & GBU's) I was in my local shop today and noticed they have one in stock, it's not displayed on their website for some reason but they do have one and they do mail order. Think the set's been quite hard to get a hold off lately, I already have one so didn't make the purchase myself. http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/index.php

I've used this site for air to ground stuff but theirs missiles on there too, all US stuff. See what you think. http://www.designation-systems.net/dusrm/index.html

Can anyone tell me if the Navs periscope fitted to the port side of the canopy centre section was fitted to all FGR-2's or was it just a mod fitted when required? At first I thought it was fitted to all but on looking closely at photo's I see that when it's fiited the cockpit window in the centre section is actually blanked out to accomodate it. Thanks Muzz
