@Des Brilliant, thank you, found one in there that just shows the small adapter plate onto the inner wing shoulder pylon, just what I was after, perfect. :)

Bloomin good thinking that! I kept looking at the nosecone sections from the Phimats etc, thinking Id maybe make subwoofers from them as I did my Martel nosecone, but theyre just too pricey unfortunately. Not like the old days at Nigel Spurs yard near Lincoln - think I paid a tenner for the Martel nose!

Believe it or not I searched again and bingo perfect photos...........

    G'day Muzz,

This one is going together well. I noticed that you have added a plastic spacer at the back end. Is this temporary or will stay there?

If permanent, does it not interfere with the fit of the exhaust assembly?

    cheers,

    Pappy

Well spotted Pappy, yes the side walls were bending in at the top so I cut a length of sprue to force them apart, it's just held in place by the pressure of the side walls. I did consider fixing it in place but it actually would have got in the way of the parts that fix in place for the tailerons. It wouldnt have been an issue for the exhaust assembly as there is another extension of the reat fuselage to be added.

Once the top section of fuselage was in place and all dried/cured I was able to remove it and add the rear section of the fuselage.

Coming together now, as usual with this kit, fit issues have been nullified with changing the build sequence but still some filling and sanding to do now.

Anyone found a good photo of these elusive pylons in the last 11 years?

I’ve just had a look on eBay to see if anyone’s selling one!😆 Hard to believe you can actually buy the TARDIS display out the rear cockpit for £475! Just seems like yesterday these things were getting put in the jets as the latest and greatest kit!!

Oh, that us a nice scheme I do not think I saw before! I only think to remember the recent one with large red XV letters on the fin....

It reminds me of the F3 schemes with spine and fin in full colors! Rarely seen on a GR, no?!

Its certainly one of the more colourful ones, this and the 14 Sqn blue tail from around 2005 are my favourites. There were lots of schemes with GR's spines and fins painted but more often than not black was the colour of choice.

  5. Cockpit painted and decals on. I had to sand away some of the detail on the panels as the plastic didn't correspond with the decals, such as the large MFD on the right side of the Navs panel. The decals are closer to a GR4 layout than the plastic.

I also added a small square of plastic and to the pilots centre mfd which has a strange step in it.

    Front fuselage together.....

I remembered to drill the holes for the IFR probe this time unlike my last build.

  6. So made a start a few days a go........

Painted the cockpit so whilst waiting on it drying I cracked on with the main fuselage.....

Intakes and wheel bays painted Hobby Color H338 Light Grey.

I joined the upper fuselage and spine/intake part before out of sequence with instruction as you get a better join with it laying flat.

  7. My new boxing of Revells GR4 'Farewell' scheme arrived today so I'm going to get cracking on as I've already lost 4 weeks or so of this GB!

Plan is to build it as the anniversary scheme for XV Squadron from 2015 at Lossiemouth. I've got the Xtradecals for it and will add Eduard Brassin seats and possibly the wheels, not sure about ordnance yet............

  8. A Tornado GR4 sheet would be good with Squadron line jets for last few years of service, all the more recent releases have been special schemes. I would, however, like to see the XV Squadrons ‘MacRoberts Reply’ , ZD741 F-LS which could probably be classed as a special scheme but was about for a good few years.

Is there a UK/EU supplier of AKAN paints? I have had a quick search but haven't been able to find any at all. (Sorry for the thread drift)

Don't believe there is now, used to be Coastal Craft but they gave up the line.

  10. It’s obviously up to the individual and what their specific interest is in, I have built the KH Su-35, Academy Su-30, HB Su-27UB and I have a HB Su-27B in the stash but I’m still eyeing up the GWH Su-27UB release as I know it’ll have superb detail and there are countless colour schemes in which to build one.

Your question is the same as if you had a F-15E Strike Eagle in the stash but someone had just released a new all singing and dancing Eagle A or B kit. It all comes down to if the subject interests you or not.

  11. Akan were certainly my go to paint in the past for Russian/Eastern Bloc aircraft and I still have all their paints. However, although pricey, MRP have a good range of Flanker colours but for availability and price I’d look down the Hataka Orange line route.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

I see Italeri have put a new 'taster' up about this kit on the scrolling bar at the top of their home page today, listing some of the features

(opening radar nose, 4 RAF schemes , rubber and plastic wheels/tyres to list some of them) and what looks to be some new artwork of a different jet to the one in the original art carrying the smaller underwing tanks rather than the 'hindenburgers'.

    https://www.italeri.com/en

Great to see a post about the actual kit! Thanks for posting, looks like an Op Telic scheme might be one of the options then.👍

  13. Ooooooh, never even seen this on the horizon never mind 3 days from starting! I took part in the last Tornado GB so it would be rude of me not to take part in this one. I have two Revell 1/48 IDS kits in the stash and two of the new “Farewell” GR4 boxing’s should be landing at my door any day now so perfect timing. I’ve just finished the Desert Babe Op Granby kit so the build sequence is fresh in my brain!
