  1. A pre-matt varnish image. The undercarriage is drying and the collector rings are painted. Today I am airbrushing the matt varnish then will be adding all the little bits on to it. I discovered that I don't have the correct types of wheels for this aircraft so I ordered a set from Red Roo of the Ultracast wheels that are the right type. The props are painted satin black and I will be doing a small amount of weathering on them after the matt varnish on the airframe. They are only added for the update image.
  2. I have managed to get up the energy to get back to the Shawnee. I have given it a complete spray of Hu159 and then a couple of coats of varnish, this has darkened it nicely and has taken away my concerns about it being to light and bright. Once the varnish is dried it will be wet and dried a little to smooth it out then decals and weathering will occur.
  3. I have finally managed to get the time and energy to do some more work on the Beaufighter. I was originally planning on airbrushing the panels lighter etc but have wimped out and just done a panel line wash of thinned black paint. I will be working on the detail painting etc in the next few weeks as I am on holidays now (if work leaves me alone that is).
  4. True, but you have done the interior PE and extra detailing I have steered clear of for this build. Apart from that, I changed my mind to rig it so you will probably overtake me while I am driving myself nuts trying to wire it up.
  5. The matt varnish is now on the model after a little bit of a panel wash using thinned black paint. I also drilled holes to rig it which I will probably regret at a later stage. Once all is dry and it is rigged I will add all the small detils that I left off so they wouldn't get broken.
  6. The main decals are now on after several coats of varnish and fine wet and dry between coats. For the first time ever I have used Microset and Microsol and it looks good with no silvering yet.
  7. I have managed to get the time and energy to put on the decals for the RAAF aircraft, thankfully not as many as the other options. The markings went on ok considering my previous experience with Airfix decals have not been that positive.
  8. Camouflage scheme on using Pollyscale acrylics and I have started to varnish over the top of the paint in preparation for the decals. I think I might just stick to enamels in the future as I have had no luck with acrylics. The paint ends up too thick or too thin and doesn't spray properly.
  9. I am currently driving myself insane doing the masking for the RAAF Aircraft and trying to get it right.
  10. RAAF Sky Blue undersides painted on with a few minor corrections to be done today. The wing landing light does not fit to well so I think on the next one it will be cut in half and each half fitted and the gap in the middle filled. The tail unit is getting put together but is not yet glued on as I want to be able to access it to paint it correctly and easily. The wings are not glued on eiher as it makes it much easier to paint the camouflage scheme.
  11. Zebra, I would have to agree about making sure it all fits. I found the seat problem and trimmed the lugs a little and it went in much better (and lower). I think the biggest complexity with the kit will be adding the tighing if you use thread. Previously on my 1/48 SMER Swordfish I didn't glue the wing halves together until after painting and rigging, not sure that would work well here.
  12. Stever219, the problem I believe is the actual internal component as it is made with a casting seam around the middle of it which needs to be sanded correctly to make sure it fits properly and aligns well, something I didin't do to well it seems. I have put the sides and roof on now and filled in the seams (probably my error) around the joints. I think I need to spend more time getting the joints right as the keel was slightly off centre somehow.
  13. For the most part it was ok but around the engine mount arra it slightly off. I am doing the RAAF aircraft for this one and the next one will hopefully be with some aftermarket RAAF ones.
  14. I just put the top of the fuselage on the aircraft, whoever designed the joint needs a clip over the back of the head. I doubt any normal modeller would be able to fit the roof without destroying a large amount of fine detail in the area.
  15. The engine pod and struts is a good idea but a pain to get right if you don't fit the internal part correctly prior to adding the three external components. A bit of work on the internals was carried out with a bit more work to be done on painting the tables etc. These little pegs on the bottom of the wings are what holds the lower wings to the fuselage when they are folded so make sure it is solidly joined to the upper wing unit.
  16. I have started the new Walrus and done some initial construction and test fitting. As I only sprayed the interior green today I am letting it dry overnight then will do some of the detail painting and weathering inside tomorrow. This is going to be wings folded, hatches closed up and no rigging while the second one I will start later on will be wings extended, hatches open and rigged.
  17. The amount of items in the interior is basic, some of the items eg the pilots seat, are great. There is a lot of the smaller detail in there that is missed or very basic is shape and detail. They have achieved a balance between detail and cost as the more detail there is the higher the cost.
  18. I have done a review of the kit at the link below: http://www.aussiemodeller.com.au/pages/Reviews/acft kit/Airfix 1-48 Walrus.html
  19. I have the kit now and while it looks good I am a bit disappointed with the interior walls being covered in ejection post marks. While they will hopefully disappear when the fuselage is closed up it is a bit of a downer. An image of the side walls is below:
  20. I will be building a foilage green one in the future but every now and then I go for something different. The kit off to the right is one of the Auster Killers, I have finished the Trumpeter kit with just the prop on the Hobbycraft kit.
  21. The seats are now painted red and the fuselage is together. I never have good success in sealing up; the Italieri kits and this one is the same as I need to put on a bit of filler and rescribe panel lines and rivet holes. The rivet holes are rather stupid as it seems the person making the molds couldn't decide which side of the panel line the rivets were supposed to be on as they vary depending on which fuselage half you look at.
  22. I have sprayed the topside cam with Hu224 and Hu117 and will be sealing it up next for decal application.
  23. I have the SMER and Classic Airframes Walrus kits in the stash and have two of the Airfix kits on the way, more than enough overall to cover the RAAF aircraft and an FAA aircraft or two. I live in hope of a 1/48 Beaufort or a Hampden from Airfix.
  24. I was planning on doing the conversion to the Merlin engined aircraft using the CMK conversion. I had marked out the areas I needed to chop out then used a different kit to do it with.
