  1. I have managed to mask it and airbrush on the green scheme using Gunze H-80.
  2. I have finally managed to finish the decals on the Shawnee and started the detail painting. I still have to give it a bit of weathering, give it a matt varnish then finish the small details. The kit itself is not that impressive with rough plastic on the exterior of the fuselage, decals and instructions not matching etc.
  3. I am doing a 1/48 Canberra as well a the moment but as a Trials Unit aircraft. The TSR2 is in the stash and will be made up as a 'What if' as well since I have already made the prototype.
  4. I have had a number of Monogram F-105 kits of various marks in the stash for several years and finally managed to start work on one of them, the F-105G. I wanted to do something different so I am doing it as a RAAF Wild Weasel being flown in support of a Canberra Strike mission. It is going to be in Gray/Green camouflage as the Canberra's were for a period of time. I am going to arm it with a pretty standard weapons load as it is in the kit. I have only added an Eduard PE set for the instrument panels and everything else in OOB at this time. It is a relatively straight build with just the canopy being a little upsetting as it can't be put in the down position as it won't fit, the canopy is too narrow for the opening.
  5. I have started to work on the next project which is the Airfix 1/48 Canberra using some Eduard cockpit PE, Model Alliance Decals, Cammett Air Brakes and a Bomb Bay from Hamilton hobbies, all of which have been in the stash for a few years now. Right now I have completed the cockpit PE and am working on the seats and tossing up whether to add more detail to the cockpit. I am a bit unsure about this as very little can be seen once it is all closed up.
  6. For the completed model go to the link below:
  7. Here is a few images of the completed Airfix 1/48 Walrus done as s/n K9515, No 5 Communications Flight RAAF. For the build log go to the link below:
  8. Just have to finish painting the wheels and attach them then carry out the last few paint touch ups and it's finished.
  9. Tony, after reading the link below on the colours of RAAF Beaufighters I took that in to consideration as well as looking at the images of the original aircraft and to me it looks like it is TSS. By that thread on cam schemes it is also in that unknown period of TSS vs TLS so my preference for TSS won.
  10. Here are some completed images of the Tamiya 1/48 Beaufighter converted to a Mk 1c as used by 30 SQN RAAF. PS. yes the tail flash is supposed to be that way around as it was back to front on the real aircraft. The build log is at the link below:
  11. I have slowed right down on the rigging for my Walrus as well.
  12. I need to stop looking at things late at night, the tail flash is as per the reference images (thankfully) and has the dark blue leading instead of the white. Neil528 - that is my 10 year old daughters 1/72 Hobbyboss 'easybuild' kit that she is slowly working on.
  13. No, I followed the decal instructions rather than looking at my references showing the aircraft. By the time I realised the error it was too late and not going to be changed.
  14. I think I might call this one finished and take a bunch of better images tomorrow to post in the correct forum.
  15. This link shows some suppliers in the UK. I bought mine here in Australia from Red Roo Models.
  16. It's all in the small details at times. After much frustration I added the support struts inside the engine cowls. I need to paint them black and then dust the engine and weather the tires a little. The new Ultracast wheels are on the kit and are much better when compared to the original kit ones. The aircraft I am modelling used the different hub but I don't know what tire was on there. Some of the other ones from the same SQN of the era had these tires so it works for me.
  17. On the SMER Swordfish I did several years ago I left the wing halves off, then drilled holes and rigged it. This was easy on this model as it was a simple paint scheme of silver and light gray.
  18. Thanks, fixed it easily.
  19. When I did the SMER Swordfish a few years ago I left of the upper half of the top wing and the lower half of the bottom wing to rig it, that worked well. As the Swordfish was a relatively simply paint scheme it was easy to fix the paint after joining the wings together. I thought about trying it on the Walrus but as I (stupidly) chose to fold the wings I didn't think it would work due to the design of the wings. It may be different for the extended wings.
  20. The rigging has started but I have given it up for the moment in frustration as the superglue takes too long to set which has resulted in some of the rigging being too loose. I have glued on one side lower wing and started the rigging with the access being slightly easier without the other side lower wing. Once this side is complete the inner rigging on the other wing will be harder to get to but will eventually be done. Using fishing line has resulted in a bit of structural strength just like on the original aircraft. If Ezy-line was used I don't think the wings would be a rigid as they are now.
  21. I wasn't originally going to post any more images until I had done more work or completed it but I wanted to show the antenna rigging, so while I was doing that...... I think the camouflage scheme has merged very nicely and the panel line wash has also blended in well. The second image is not the greatest but it gives an indication of something I am trying out. I have constant problems trying to get the Ezy-line on to the model so I drilled a hole in the fuselage for a small piece of tube which I have stuck the Ezy-line in to prior to inserting it. I have then made my own turnbuckle for the tail antenna point and threaded the Ezy-line through that back to the antenna mast near the front of the aircraft.
  22. I found a structural consideration to take in to the building of the upper wings and engine module. When I glued the centre section on I should have pinned it in some way as I found the section pulled away from the struts with the weight of the wings pulling down on it. This should not be a problem, hopefully, when the wings are all on there and glued/rigged.
  23. Thanks. I have just sprayed the matt coat and it has tied the camouflage in well and I have achieved the look I was after. I will post some more images once I do a bit more work on it.
  24. So the fun begins. The rigging on the engine module is done, engine on and the wings just glued on. The rigging of the wing commences when the glue on all that dries. It will be turned upside down and, using Ez-Iine, I will be starting to rig it by gluing the top rigging points then adding the lower wings and working on the lower rigging.
  25. Here is the reason that I have posted little update son the Walrus lately, the rigging. The rigging above the engine is very fine fishing line (stolen from my daughters hand reel) while the rigging underneath the engine is Ez-line. I used superglue to start with but it leaves unsightly patches and kinks the Ez-line while white glue takes a bit longer but dries clear. The underneath section is still in progress.
