  1. A question for the knowledgeable types here; do the finger type airbrakes (as shown in earlier images) deploy with the flaps or are they a separate activation?
  2. Bexy, the double DV windows are in fact correct for a RAAF Mk 21 trainer, unfortunately i'm not making one of those. :-( I am not overly concerned 100% over the accuracy of the models but the main items like panel lines for compartments that shouldn't be there etc are of interest. I just founf it intersting that there was such a large difference between the different kits, especially the Airfix one vs the others. I have already started the filling of the rudder and now I just need plans and good images of the RAAF versions to work out the panels that shouldn't be there.
  3. I am in the process of making a Airfix B.2 and a Classic Airframes B.2 and found the differences between them to be interesting. As a reference I have the Airfix, Classic Airframes, Aeroclub and Falcon 1/48 Canberra B.2 to sit side by side. All are different in length, profile and panel lines with the CA and Aeroclub being the closest on the nose area. Who is more correct, I don't know but it should be interesting when I have my six 1/48 Canberra's sitting next to each other hopefully by the end of the year (2 x Airfix, 2 x CA, 1 x Aeroclub and 1 x Falcon). All six are to be in RAAF markings, I have yet to decide on the exact schemes though.
  4. For those interested in the Mi-26 I have put all my images on photobucket at the link below: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v245/Harvs73/mI-26/
  5. Bruce, the SQN markings were on both sides of the tail. I have a number of images of the 162 acft with the Marlin in Blue on both sides and the 161 Possum is in the image below. The Possum was usualy done in cam colours appropriate to where it was painted. The tan colour is another of these hard to pin down ones. I have images of Blackhawks in East Timor with what looks to be totaly different tan colours. They range from the colour you have to a more reddish tan colour, all depends on the light I think. I have seen the Marlins in decal form somewhere but can't remember where (all my decals are still packed somewhere), it might be the Seaking set - i'm not sure. As for moving, it sucks big time! My model desk etc is stuffed into the garage and won't see the light of day for a few months I reckon.
  6. Have I mentioned that I actualy did work on 010 when I was with 161 Recce SQN? Even though i was not a tradesman I still managed to help the pre-flight and some other maintenance. Here is the aircraft whilst it was in East Timor with 162 Recce SQN. You can tell the difference as the tail fin has a blue Marlin on it whilst 161 had a possum in cam colours on it. Good job of getting the colours right as well. Well done.
  7. The Tamiya kit is a very good start for the Mossie so don't have to wait for the new kit from Revell. I also agree with Bob, you don't need to add anything to the kit to make it look good other than modelling skill. If you want though you can do it up with open engine bays, new bomb bays, nose guns - pretty much everything. Unfortunately all of these additions cost money and involve heaps of time fitting them to the kit parts. Are there any countries you want to model ie do you want to have an RAF aircraft or are you open to others? If you are you have Israeli, Australian and heaps more. The Australian aircraft come in the RAF scheme (Greys and greens), all over RAAF Foilage green or even silver - your choice. http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Galler...itoA52-525.html http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Galler...y_Mosquito.html http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Review...to_revised.html
  8. The only comments that were made about the Sea Venom were pointing out the discrepancies in the cockpit. The images shown were used to point out what should have been where. They were not the destructive comments usualy made by HS'ers about most kits. I am actualy amazed that Danni was not howled down due to the 'Classic Airframes can do no wrong' crowd that inhabit the site.
  9. I just had a look at the Eduard set no 49371 and the PE is correct as per the picture at the top ie it points the correct way.
  10. I finished this same kit a while ago. One of the problems I found was the fit of the radios in the rear compartment when the rear canopy went on. When looking from the tail, the radio on the right fouled the canopy, due to my mismagement or bad design i'm unsure. If you go to the article attached you will see a few points that may help as well as the references I used, especialy the build article in SAMI. http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Galler...FireflyMk1.html It is definately a good kit though!
  11. mmmm Canberra's.... I'm just waiting for Airfix to bring out the B.2/20 to complete the RAAF collection. 599 models entered at expo, the vast majority of which were excellent. The secret to good photography is heaps of light or a tripod and longer exposure.
  12. Heaps of images now on Aussie Modeller International site. There were WAY too many good models there to narrow it down to a reasonable number. I pity people like Frank Morgan of Model Art magazine who can only select 10 - 20 images for publication! http://www.aussiemodeller.com/index.html
  13. Good work steve! Would you care to post the images on the Aussie modeller website? There would be a number of folks there that I reckon would like to see it. http://www.aussiemodeller.com/index.html With the Aussie Decals problems, did you notify Damian of Aussie Decals? I'm sure he would like to know of the problem. http://www.aussiedecals.com.au/index.html
  14. I would suggest you try asking at Aussie Modeller as I think there might be one or two starting them over there. http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/discus...roup/forum.html I dare say they would like to see your efforts on the Boomerang you are currently doing as well.
  15. The company 'Arms Model It' have produced a 'Future' replacement that is available in Australia. For a little bit of info on it go to this link - http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Review...rmsmodelit.html You can get it from the following link - http://www.armsmodelit.com.au/
  16. That's a pretty good look I reckon, just the right amount of wear down to metal. As for Hu149, thankfully it's back in the shops as it's my favourite paint for Foilage Green. But then again, anything around that colour is close enough. Mike, when you finish it please post it on the readers models section of the Bulletin Board at www.aussiemodeller.com as we love all things Australian there (especialy aircraft in my case).
  17. I hope it's just the image distortion brought on by the camera but the landing gear does look a bit 'squat'. The real one I have had the chance to climb in/under didn't seem to sit that low?? But we can only wait and see what the final product will look like when it hits the street. Lots of nice detail in the interior from all of those images at the start of the thread. But alas I still have a monogram kit in the Stash to do a RAAF ARDU aircraft or maybe even try an RAN version with a long nose. Plus it would be hard to explain to my wife.
  18. I'm more surprised at the LACK of comment on HS about it. I would like one so I can do a RAAF machine but not for that sort of money! If you do the conversion plus the importer rip-off into Australia you are looking at around $150AUD+ I reckon, not paying that much for the kit thats for sure.
  19. For Mk VII aftermarket you can always do an Australian SQN in RAF service. Red Roo do a sheet for 4 different Mk VIII's of 453 SQN. I have attached a review of the sheet and some links to my versions in 1/48 of the aircraft in these markings. Review http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Review...0Spit%20Mk7.htm My ICM Spit Mk VII's http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Galler..._SpitMk7-1.html http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Galler..._SpitMk7-2.html I personally like the Grey / PRU blue scheme. Red Roo site http://www.redroomodels.com/decals.php?decal=104
  20. David, I have also made a few of them and the only trouble I have realy had has been caused by me rushing through it. The attached link is from a Mk VII I built but in the same Gallery are another Mk VII and a Mk IX, all from ICM. http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Galler..._SpitMk7-2.html
