  1. Hi All, Bit of an update, more etch going on, Funnel grill finished and painted; Radar parts forming up This is the underside on the platform at eh base of the mast - didn't stop to think that when fitted you cant see the bottom so why do the etch - the kit has a few bits like this - there's extensive etch to go under the two aircraft lifts which again you would never be able to see, the upper platform for the mast has more complicated etch under it but i forgot to photo before i put it in place and now you can barely see it..........
  2. I shouldn't imagine so, in photos the always look smooth but not glossy,
  3. Nice one Jon, she's come out lovely Dunkerque moving up the build queue?
  4. Thanks, id nevernod guessed that, males it easier as it can be painted grey as with the rest of her then, Thanks, Sam
  5. It is, I do regret painting the beam detail in the bow section, itd hardly be seen but if looked for would have shown off the etch without looking out of place
  6. This is great news, rumour was they'd gone under but clearly there's hope yet,
  7. Afternoon, small update Hope youa re all well, Been working on the ships boats for Taiho, there are a lot spare with how veryfire have done the sprues but they're nicely detailed even without the etch so thats not a bad thing. I've been stuck in a cycle of I cant do X until I do Y , and I cant do Y until I do Z, and I cant do Z until I do X - so took the plunge and fixed the etch under the flight deck overhang and fixed the 'treehouse' superstructure to the underside of the FD as well. Ive not fixed it to the main deck yet, that'll wait until after I've painted it and got the ship boats stuck down as well. I might fit some angles gussets under the deck edge, the gap seems a little large between the brass and deck edge right now, I'll have to see what I have spare. She's coming on though, railings now going on, a little fiddly so that and further work on the Island will likely be the focus this week. Definitely not going to be done for Telford, nor Zeppy, not to worry. There's always next year, Think I'll go back to something with big guns after these ones are done. Question - and I think I may have asked this before so apologies if I have - Anyone know what this rectangle stuck on her stern is? TTFN, Sam
  8. @steve5 I shall follow along, I built this as my first kit back, really enjoyed it, your already doing a better job than me! Look forward to seeing it take shape, I think she'd be very doable as a scratch project, even the turrets and it has the advantage that the hull sections in the anatomy book are already in 1:200,
  9. She looks fantastic Guy, that's a great outcome, glad it was well received as well,
  10. Not sure how well my bank balance could cope with to many more purchases but its always hard to say no when there's a good deal, I'd hoped to have a couple of ships to enter in the competition but a)they're not finished and b) I've not joined the ipms which would make it tricky However I'll be there rhe Saturday, I'll drop you a mesage closer to the time, Sam
  11. Very nice result, you've pulled out all the detail really well which really makes it standout I've often wondered about afv kits and by the looks of yours they're very good, especially when carefully built and weathered,
  12. Can't help re SMW - I've not been before but planning to go this year, do you normally get good deals there from suppliers? Re following people, on a phone if you touch/press on the name it'll take you to their user page and there's a button with like a person and + sign on it you touch/press to follow, Hth Sam
  13. Nice job on the cutters that pe looks like it would have been a fiddle
  14. theres a build thread on another site where some one has used the KGV as a base for Duke of York using the Pontos set, its doable but requires a little more jiggery pokery, can dm the link if you like? if feels wrong to post a link in the thread as its for another site somehow,
  15. Stunning, a company out there should pay you heavily when you're finished to use your model to release a kit!
  16. Cheers Steve They're Etch ones, 16 parts each for 17 guns making 272 parts total - might take me a min or two Some of the 3d printed stuff looks great, it is tempting but this kit has eaten a lot money wise and i still need to sort what im doing deck wise for her, painting is cheapest as i have mainly what i need but i might try getting some generic artwox sheet and cutting it to shape, its the masking off the flight deck markings thats going to be a real pain, i just cannot justify £100 for a deck and mask from veryfire though,
  17. Thanks Jeff, it is, I'm going to get some mirrored acrylic to sit under her when displayed so it's easier to see, that said it'll only really be me that sees her anyway, I've looked at doing kaga but the pe with her is extortionate and as with other Japanese carriers and Taiho it can't really be seen in the large part, Cheers Mike,
  18. Jeff, just caught up with this, that's some great scratch building you've done, I always admire how you don't seem daunted by making significant adjustments to a kit and just get stuck in, keep it up,
  19. Thabks Jon, It is always a little daunting but less so when you know it won't be easily seen if it goes wrong, I've been putting off the remaining AA guns as I'm chickening out as they'll really notice Thanks beefy
  20. Started working from the stern forward now on Taiho, these hooks form part of the overhead gantry crane for the ships boats, tiny wheels on the pulley cart but only lost one - lucking they give you 1 spare , 1p coin for scale then this is the last of the large area etch/beams, this was tricking as it has a curve in it so holding it right whilst gluing it isn't simple, luckily its fairly flexible and so when it comes to fixing it to the underside of the flight deck there hopefully wont be an issue, cheers Sam
  21. She's really coming on, I still think it's a great project your undertaking here,
