I'd echo beefy, that or spare from other kits, I'm part way through a Dunkerque build on the forum, must say it's gone together pretty easily so far, the one bit that hasn't was the support columns under one deck on the forward superstructure, the kit supplied parts have no leeway at all/are slightly short which was exacerbated when I trimmed them slightly shorter and they of course didn't then fit, aside that she's been great so far, the master barrels are good, they do also do some resin AA guns but I've not decided if I'm brave enough to get them yet,

Looking like a show stopper in my opinion

I did wonder if I was living dangerously, that said I'm getting to a point where flipping the hull over isn't going to be as easy so like most things I was in two minds, it's got two chances so time will tell I guess, I shall pray to the gods of scale middling lol

I do think that props and anchors on makes it feel like you've made progress;

I must say I do like your whole approach Jeff, - there's not a model of this subject .. no problem I'll just make one - I've a couple of ideas myself but ought to clear some things on the list first ... When I do get around to scratch building bits though I may need to borrow some of that no worries approach, Sam

Thanks Rob, I did a few but wasn't sure, think I'll do the rest, I'm going to have to have another go at pulling out the lines running along the hull, I'm not sure what they were, don't think they were degaussing cables, either way I'd like to get them to stand out more when finished,

So decided to sort the bollards, couldn't get used to the white cap on them; What are peoples thoughts on pin washing the detail to bring out the grid pattern more? I'm in two minds so any input/thoughts/suggestions welcome, At the same time I picked out the anchor wells/openings or whatever they are called, they seemed to go in and out of being painted black so figured why not Glossed her up to let me try to highlight some detail on the hull, it wasn't really successful so I'll need to rethink, its the long raised lines on her side I wanted to highlight, the gloss finish does it very well any way but I suspect a satin/matt finish will make them 'recede' again, I do like the depth the gloss adds to the anti-fouling, im tempted to leave the bottom semi gloss and satin/matt from the boot topping up, tried brining some of the detail out; I tried to do a subtle pin wash to bring out the doors, S/S, funnel, other details and on the tops of the eyebrows over the scuttles, I'm uncertain, I was thinking shouldn't it actually be under the eyebrows as is simulates shadow? Any and all thoughts welcome re the pin wash on the scuttles and the foc'sle Hopefully do a bit more tonight, as much as there is still lots to do I think it'll actually come together quite quickly in parts now, S

I must say that looks quite the kit, they seem to of put a lot of thought into how it will go together and giving the modeller an idea of the inner layout, areas we wouldn't normally see or worry about. That said its an odd way they've out it together at the same time. Your build is looking like its off to a good start, Also do I spy ICM's Markgraf in the background?

So according to the Dumas book, Dunkerque and Strasbourg has Bollards that were white and black, I read this a while ago and so last night went off with my paint brush; Now there are two small issues, 1) I don't care for how it looks 2) I got it the wrong way around, they were white base and sides with a black cap, I'm not sure i can be faffed with going back and masking to paint them white and do the cap, they may just go back to being black all over, Aside that I gave up trying to paint anchor chain and so dipped it and wiped the excess away - is this how people normally do it, the other way is just a faff with a brush,

Don't quote me on it but I believe it's a reboxing of the Zvezda kit, likewise Revels 1/350 Gangut is a rebox of a Zvezda kit of a ship of the same class, I've built the Zvezda Dreadnought, thought it was a pretty good kit but I'd likely scratch build the mast tops if I did it again,
