  1. Yeah they're pretty close aren't they, I worked it out to only be millimetres difference in 1/350, I.e for repulse to furious conversion then the repulse hull from trumpeter would be 7mm too long, 1.7mm too wide and 2.6mm too deep, I can live with that to save scratch building a hull, especially as the crucial bit I.e the hull form/shape is very very similar, so much so that i suspect the designers were using a slightly adjusted design from Repulse/Renown. Given they were ordered so close together and the pressure was to just get things built I suspect that was likely the case,
  2. I believe the semicircular hoke pattern was some kind of listening device the Japanese used, they're also on my Taiho build so must have been widespread in their use there's almost more etch on that bit of superstructure than plastic, and those aa guns are really rather fab btw
  3. Thanks Ray, you've done exactly what I've contemplated doing by getting another kit but with a detail set, one day when I clear abit of the stash I'll likely do the same,
  4. I've no idea re the warspite question I'm afraid, I've heard rumour that Veryfire are looking at doing a 1/350 Furious but we'll see, if not I think one could be scratch built using HMS Repulse' hull, as its pretty close in dimensions and profile, I've looked at it as an idea but I've a lit to build until I get to it
  5. That is very impressive work, you're making me want to detail my Warspite up now, Don't worry about posting mid process, i for one like seeing how people go about achieving the end result so post away in my opinion,
  6. The more I look at this one of yours the more I think you have a natural way and talent with this age/type of vessel, it all just looks 'right' not the best way to put it I'm sure but can't quite think of another way to word it,
  7. Brilliant result, I echo all of the other comments, quite the achievement,
  8. Hi All, Progress of late has been slow and what there has been hasnt been particularly noticeable, but the top hats for the stand are in - the epoxy tricked me, i looked then looked twenty minutes and thought it was still wet - actually rock hard - never had any set clear before, That meant the hangar decks could finally be put in, I wasn't happy with the detail i added for the lift/well walls so I've taken that off and added in something else. Also been trying out markings for the hangar floor, keeping it simple as I cant be faffed with more masking. It occurred to me that you cant see more than about an inch and half each way so why i masked it all off who knows, just need to do something similar for the forward section, Also been working on the rear and forward flight deck etch/supports, hopefully share that later but off to go and see some film about a wizard and a beastie. cheerio Sam
  9. I did wonder if you'd succumb to something else in 1:700, Belfast is a great looking ship, I've not been to her for years really must go down again, it's a shame the 1/350 kits are rare as hens teeth now and so silly money often on ebay, Re colours I've no idea but the guide books had good shots of her and are often cheap on evilbay, if not can you get good views of her from Google Street View? I'd expect there'd cover her as an attraction,
  10. Very much hope you do a build log when you get to her, would be great to see her coming to shape especially with an Rc conversion as well
  11. I must concur, they're usually useful for part numbers but little more than that,
  12. Looking good, brave creating the balconies, I like it
  13. Wish you a speedy recovery, took me 14 days to test negative but most of it I just felt really washed out for so can't complain Those replacement guns look fab, though the kit ones aren't awful by any stretch,
  14. Thanks for posting that for me, Everyone seems a little fascinated by the Walruses presence, this has made my including of them a must, as they're quite tall is guess they would have had to of been kept on deck,
  15. Thank you, I've just invested in her big sister to do as a rare post ww2 battleship, albeit at 1948 it isn't that post war really
  16. Thanks Jamie and by extension @dickrd, I'm slowly build up a lost of what I'll need for her, Thanks @iang that's very impressive knowledge of her history, I'll have to see about if I can get marking small enough for a 1/350 but would be quite cool to have the codes on them, would love to see that photo you mentioned if possible, Sam
  17. Planes take a long time, the Veryfire ones are beautifully detailed but each I taking 25 mins as there are several connections to the sprue that need tidying up, so after a few hours the first batch are done - all the Judy's and the two Val's (which are out of shot). Think I said before that you only get etch for 1 Val which is odd so the other will be in the hangar. There was also one spare Judy so that will likewise be sat inside, these still need the photo etch canopy adding (once pre painted) and the etch props and resin nose cones, so much still to do, The crane opening is going to be in the way, as much as it would be nice to show it off I'm likely going to just have it as closed, I dont think it would look right being up and the deck being full of planes, Pre painting cockpits for the Jill's - did all of them in the end so they are ready for when I summon up more patience, I'll have to come back to it and pick out the seat with a tan colour, You can see the multiple connection points on the wings on this closeup, - they are a pain in the proverbial...., Trumpys planes by comparison are quicker to put together but not as nicely moulded. Odd issue i have found though id that on a couple of the Judy's fuselage, part 1 is slightly too long which doenst show until you put the main wing on, the result is a slightly banana shaped fuselage, I'll need to be ordering some paints for the plane exteriors from Sovereign, To take a break on the planes i started the island, this is 19 parts so far, there are a few awkward seams that week need sorting, i love the internal railing though, gives a nice 3d pull to the structure, The starboard side is far the more interesting, when I get a proper case or cabinet I will definitely need a mirror to be able to see the detail the other side, This is where she is at, have a busy weekend but hopefully get a bit more done and then do a shot with her and Zeppy together, Thanks for stopping by, S-boat
  18. Me again, any idea as to what anti fouling she wore?
  19. Outstanding example, she really looks the part, the level of detailing is very impressive, Could I ask what paints/ colours you used on her? Also do you do anything to your decks before you put them on? Your seem to blend in to the overall effect very well rather than stand out
  20. Come up lovely, well done, I've HMS Zulu part built in the cupboard, makes me want to get her out and finished,
  21. Sheet looks great, lovely job, don't worry about updating us lot, enjoy the time while the little'n is small, they get very not small pretty rapidly,
  22. I did quite enjoy knocking the sub up must be said, she's the right variant to go with my Ark Royal when I get to her, gonna let another somewhat well known project reach completion first though to save me having to do the research lol
