  1. I don't blame you the air was blue while I was applying them.
  2. Thanks Pete Thanks hopkp. The decals are aftermarket by a company called Kits World. The set is called War Birds (KW148152). There are 5 schemes on the sheet and they are all for test and development aircraft. They retail for between £8.50 and £10.99 plus p+p. I only used the one set so if you are interested in the othere schemes I am sure we can come to some arrangement. They are not the best decals I have worked with.
  3. Thanks Martin. Is one of the 1/72 ones the old Airfix one? I remember even as a youngster thinking that the non-existent wheel wells looked wrong.
  4. Thanks John W I agree. I have a Corsair F4U that will be in the USN Dark Blue. Thanks Andy. The ladders and engine blanks come with the kit. It is a lovely kit to build with a good choice of stores. I did dither about buying it but I got it for £59.95 in the end. My big interest is 1/35 Anti Aircraft Missile Systems kits and they're not cheap either so I am used to paying out for a kit.
  5. Thanks all for the comments. I didn't weather it as I modelled it as it would have looked during its life with the RN Test Sqn. It would have been kept in the hangar and periodically cleaned when not in use.
  6. Thanks Cliff it has been a bit difficult nailing down which need to be filled in or left and where new ones need to be scribed. The conversion set shows one thing, 1/72 PR XI kit instructions show another and a set of supposed plans show something slightly different again!
  7. Thanks I do prefer the scheme to the overall extra dark sea grey one. I remember building the airfix 1/72 one in my youth.
  8. Thank you. It is a great kit to build.
  9. Hi All Finally finished my Airfix 1/48 Buccaneer. I was making great progress and then stalled while I finished some other builds. I built it as XN974, which was the first S.2 off the production line. It saw service with the Royal Navy Test Sqn and is now with the Yorkshire Air Museum. The kit was a joy to build and the only problems I encountered were with the wing pylons - they would not sit flush to the wing and the ladders - the locating pins are at the wrong angle. Thanks for looking Mick
  10. When I caught it last year my daughter brought it into the house. Four days later my wife caught it and, after 8 days I was still testing negative and then I got it too. Like you I felt awful for one night and then I found it hard to concentrate on anything for the next couple of days. Decaling is my favourite part of the build.
  11. Great progress, sorry to hear that Covid has finally got you. 😒
  12. I will have to check my RF-4 kit now for those flaws seeing yours.
  13. I've been distracted lately getting my 1/48 Buccaneer finished but now I can concentrate on the Spitfire build. Next up was the wings. There were a load of panel lines on both the top and bottom associated with the guns that needed filling as well as the bumps to be removed, along with some panel lines to be added. The resin inserts on the top of the wing have panel lines in them but they don't actually line up with those on the wing so I have had to fill them and scribe my own. The lines are hard to see without the primer on which will be done once the wings and the rest of the parts are added to the fuselage. The underwing camera and fuel pump blisters have also been added.
  14. Thanks JonKT that is great advice, much appreciated. The chin section is a much better fit but needs the wings fitting first so it can align better. The kit comes with another canopy for the MK X version so I will have a practice on that one. I will probably use the sliding canopy and the rear section from the kit as I only need to replace the front section.
  15. With the cockpit finished it can now be fitted into the fuselage. Next to be fitted is the under-fuselage panel containing the ventral cameras.. The insert has a great big lump of resin underneath: I am sure that the part could have been moulded with less of that lump! As can be seen the fit is terrible! After a lot of sanding down of the insert and underside of the cockpit module this was the best fit I could manage. Hopefully the other parts of the conversion kit are a better fit. Mind you I am not looking forward to cutting out the vacform canopy!!!
  16. Well done Pete it is coming along nicely. I get frustrated putting 6 or 8 mas balances and getting them all to line up let alone 24!
  17. Thanks Col I rather overdid the dark wash but it didn't show until the matt varnish was put on. Mind you it is not as noticeable with the fuselage assembled.
  18. Finally made a start - work has been manic and I haven't had the enthusiasm to get on with the build in the evenings. I managed to get some pictures of a Mk XI of the internet and found out that they had three oxygen bottles fitted so I fabricated another two and added some copper wire to represent the copper pipework. I also added a small panel on the left side of the cockpit that held two instrument dials and the camera control unit that replaced the gunsight. The pictures have not come out as well as I had hoped - I have just bought a portable photo booth and tried it out using my phone.
  19. Good Start. 👍 TBolt - I didnt know that - I have painted mine red as well. just hope I can repaint mine although I have just glued the fuselage together.
  20. That's great thanks Paul. I will continue with my plan then to finish it off with a glass coat.
