I have already bought a few of these. And yes, they are superb!

I am working on and off on a couple of Lancasters, and have a few more planned. When it comes to using aftermarket stuff, the kit gun barrels is something that really benefits from being substituted. Already a couple of years ago QuickBoost produced resin barrels for the Lanc. But these also raises a couple of questions. They make two different versions; one with round cooling holes in the jackets, and one version with oval holes. Question is, did one of the versions preceed the other, or were both versions produced in parallell? If one preceeded the other, when did the change occur? I haven't been able to find any information on this, and it is virtually impossible to see in photos which version is fitted to a particular aircraft. TIA

Absolutely love this Buffalo (and the Beaufort too)! Congrats on a job well done. Already looking forward to the Crusader. Best of luck with it. But most of all I wish you and your wife success in battling your health issues.- 247 replies

1/72 Blackbird Lincoln Conversion - Masks off!

But when used as a varnish, a couple of times the suface has developed several cracks after some time, at least for me. -
Ah British TV commedy, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Vicar of Dibley, 'Allo 'Allo!, Ab Fab, Blackadder, Not the nine o'clock news, Mr. Bean, just to name a few of my favourites, Given me many good laughs through the years. Just to return to modelling, remember that since the rear fairing behind the turret is movable, there is a small gap on either side of it. It is quite noticable in photos.

I've got the original Formaplane Nimrod kit burried somewhere deep down in my stash. That kit is made from thin flimsy plastic, compared the the heavy duty plastic used by Historic Wings. Cut out the main parts, sanded them, and taped them together. Then put them back in the box - and they've stayed there ever since. Really don't know why I didn't continue.

A modelling friend of mine uses exactly that method with great success. As the Klear dries, it shrinks and virtually sucks the decal down into the panel lines. -

That's what I was thinking when I was looking at the photo in post #263. But wasn't sure if it really was so, or wether it was an opticlal illusion or a distorted perspective. -

Maybe one of our US based BM-ers could act as a middle man for this? -

Use Google to search for the site; Thunder & Lightnings. There you'll find the photos you are asking for. -
Check the clear part for the gun turret. I bougth this kit last week at my LHS, only to discover that the turret suffers heavily from the infamous Airfix mould lines. A small section on one side was even short shot. Contacted Airfix for a replacemaent part, but unfortunately they answered that they are out of Defiant parts right now, so it will probably take some time before I get one.

You also might consider these extras from QuickBoost for the F-8: QB 72 269 Flaps QB 72 270 Slots(?) Should probably read slats. QB 72 406 Crusaider seat Edit: Just noticed that you plan on using the Aires cockpit, so the QB seat is probably the same since QB is made by Aires.- 247 replies

Thats exactly what the SAS did in Malaya way back, with similar type of losses. But they carried on with the mission and eventually were successful in catching thte guerillas. -

Thinking I had seen some 226 OCU decals done by Modeldecal, I have just checked my binder containing (almost) every Modeldecal sheet printed. I did find two sheets that had them, although all are for GR.1/1A's. Sheet #46 has the torch & sword in small size for the fin, but no tartan stripe. Sheet #115 has large size torch & sword placed on the side of the air intakes, and a later version of the tartan stripe consisiting of a "mesh" of thin red lines and two vertical blue wide stripes, both at the front and rear, painted directly over the dark gray camouflage on the RWR fairing. So not much help there I'm afraid. -
Just picked up the May 2012 issue of Airfix Modelworld at my LHS yesterday. This issue has a "bomber special" theme with two of the articles on the RAF Washington. The first one is a historical article about the the aircraft's service in the RAF. The second one is a lengthy build article on a 1/72 192 Sqn ELINT Washington. The aircraft is WZ966, a very attractive aircraft with all gun turrets removed, some extra antennas, and sported arctic red wing tips and fixed portions of the fin and tailplanes.

I second that! -
Ah, thank you. That was completly unknown to me. Seeing the pics of the "real" Nora Batty, I can understand the reason for changing the name to Nikki.
