  1. The Freightdog correction set for the Xtrakit T.7 has two MB Mk.4 and the small bore jet pipe, plus s set of very nice resin wheels. Might all be usefull for the Olimp kit too.
  2. Thank you very much. You confirmed what I suspected, which will be very helpful once I start building the Airfix kit and painting my already built Xtrakit Swift.
  3. IMHO one of the very best kits produced by Trumpeter! The only thing worth adding are the Quickboost resin exhaust pipes.
  4. IIRC there were a couple (4?) of square openings in the top decking between the front and rear pits, to give some daylight to the poor sod sitting down there. Could be worth adding these to add some life to that area beneath that large greenhouse canopy.
  5. If you mix too much, put the leftovers in the freezer. This will stop the curing. Leave it there until you need it the next time.
  6. The bright coloured pipes(?) visible between the cylinders, is that part D12 in the Airfix kit? I ask since Airfix says the same seimigloss black as the rest of the engine, for part D12.
  7. One question about the white sealant strip around the canopy; is it visible only from the outside, or from the inside as well? Another question; Airfix gives the colour for the forward part of the intake trunking as matt white (Humbrol 34) and the rear part as semigloss black(!) (Humbrol 85). I find this very surprising, even unlikely. My impresion is that during the 50's these areas were left natural metal. White intales, to my knowlege, didn't appear until the late 60's/early 70's. Anybody able to shed some light on this?
  8. The less said about it, the better. IIRC the Monogram kits have also been reissued by Revell. Or is my memory playing tricks there?
  9. I picked up this kit (and the Swift kit) last Saturday. Will not start building it until I have seen what aftermarket part are/will be available (some are already), and I have finished some of the kits I already have under construction. But I have inspected the parts and done some dry fitting to check it out, and I must say it is probably the bestfitting kit of all the new Airfix kits that I have seen so far! Notable is that Airfix have done away with the traditional "peg and hole"-guides on the fuselage halfs, and instead gone for small alternating tabs that fits into recesses in the opposing half. This works very well. There are also hardly any shrink marks on this kit, something that sveral of the new Airfix kits have suffered from (low pressure moulding?). The Blenheim top wing is especially bad. Nothing that can't be cured with filling and sanding, but nevertheless anoying.
  10. This used to niggle me with all the new Airfix kit boxes. Untill one day, holding a box in my hands looking at the boxtop picture, I rotated it towards me to look at the side. Lo and behold, the pictures weren't upside down! That's when I realised it was intentional.
  11. No, rag hockey is even worse. Played in the mess dining hall late in the evning (note; bar has been open all evening). All furniture removed, a single chair at each end as goals, a cleaning rag as a puck, broom sticks as clubs, three players on each team, no shoes on, just socks. It is viscious!
  12. Bill, I have found clear gloss varnish the best "glue" to attach the clear film to the back of the etched IP.
  13. I have a binder containing my highly treasured collection of every Modeldecal sheet produced, bar one or two of the very early ones. In fact I've gort two of each and even three of some. They have through the years been one of my best sources of modelling inspiration, and I have no hesitation using them even today.
  14. Another very good book on Beauforts is "Torpedo Leader" by Wing Commander Patric Gibbs, Wrens Park Publishing, ISBN 0-905778-72-3. Highly recommended.
  15. I still remembeer the pre-takeoff cheks for the Slingsby Cadet from the flying week at RAF Swanton Morely back in 1970 when I took part in the IACE. Controls Instruments Straps Trim Release Spoilers Not bad after 45 years. Oh, and I still got my ATC glider pilot wings earned that week, as a nice memory.
  16. Thank you Walter, exactly what I was looking for - and a bit more too.
  17. New question: The antenna wire, running from the mast till the tip of the fixed part of the fin, has a lead in the middle of it, going down to and into the fuselage. On photos and profiles it is very clear where this wire is situated. However I have been unable to figure out where it enters the fuselage seen from the top; fuselage centerline, vertically under the antenna wire, or well on the starboard side of the fuselage? Can anybody shed some light on this? TIA
  18. Sometime during my last years in the Air Force, a couple of us oldies sat and talked about "the good old times".Compared to then, everything and everyone was much more streamlined now. All the old "colourful" guys from back then were long gone, and there weren't anyone around to take their place. Just then one of the young blokes overhearing this commented: "Hey, you go and have a look in the mirror."
