  1. Beautiful. One of the sexiest aircraft ever. You put in the work on this limited run kit, and it shows. A real gem!
  2. Lovely. As a liner nut, I really love and take inspiration from your builds!
  3. 1/48 Tamiya Aichi M6A1 Seiran. My last completion of the year. I used Eduard PE belts. The Scalemaster decals in these older Tamiya kits will shatter. Ask me me how I know. Bought this kit brand new in 1997. Piddled with it a little and threw it back in the box. Now that it's old enough to vote, drive and have a career, I decided to finish it this year.
  4. No, no - I wasn't looking for apologies - just interesting to me how different airframes weather or the same airframe looks at different points during it's service life. I appreciate you sharing that photo of 841 - I hadn't see one. All good!
  5. Very Cool! Thanks for sharing. I used the kit color call outs and these two photos for reference. Like I mentioned, any shortfalls are operator error!
  6. This is the Ammo/MiG boxing of the F-104G Starfighter. Out of the box. Kit decals used. Some operator error, but I have a zipper in my collection now.
  7. Started the 1/48 Tamiya N1K1 George just before Christmas 2020. Discovered I had the Hasegawa kit of the same subject in the stash, so a duel build began. The decals in the Tamiya kit were unusable (old, cracked) and the Hinomarus in the Hasegawa kit were damaged. I used aftermarket "meatballs" and the Hasegawa kit had two machines from the same squadron, so I elected to build those. I decided to weather one less than the other. Both good kits, with the Hasegawa edging out the Tamiya slightly for finesse of detail. Here they are: Hasegawa Tamiya
  8. After Airbrush issues, decal issues and....issues - here we are currently. My idea is to have one less weathered than the other. Tamiya Hasegawa The boys together...
  9. Small update - Waiting on Hinomarus in the post as the both the kit decal sheets are pretty much unusable due to age (Tamiya sheet) and the clear back seal leaving an impression across them (Hasegawa). But basic painting done.
  10. 1/48 Hasegawa F4U-7 Corsair 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1 Birdcage Corsair 1/48 Monogram PB4Y-1 Liberator 1/48 Tamiya Do-335B-2 Heavily Armed Pfiel 1/48 Hobby Boss F8F-2 Bearcat 1/35 Tamiya BT-7 Russian Tank 1/48 AMK MiG-31 Foxhound 1/48 Hobby Boss Focke-Wulf FW-190V-18 1/48 Hasegawa P-39N Airacobra 1/48 Airfix Spitfire Mk. XII
  11. Both painted and a little gloss coat (Hasegawa on the left). Decals in the Tamiya kit are shot, so I'll do both options of the Hasegawa kit with hinomarus borrowed from the decal vault.
  12. Happy Boxing Day, ladies and gents! Work progresses. Painted the undersurfaces of both kits. First the control surfaces in Tamiya XF-76 IJN grey/green. Masked them off. and sprayed the bellies with Tamiya rattle can Gloss Aluminum. Got the idea to post shade a few of the panels and used AK Aluminum for that. Subtle, but comes across better in person than in photos. Hasegawa undersurfaces painted: Tamiya undersurfaces painted: Tamiya George undersurfaces masked: Polly Scale IJN Green applied to Tamiya George's upper surfaces: Hasegawa George to follow. State of play now:
  13. Happy Christmas, All! Trying to get a couple (read several) projects running during my winter break. I had pulled several longtime denizens of the stash down, one of them being the 1/48 N1K1 George, which I had done a little noodling on - cleaning parts etc. Started it in earnest when I discovered I had the Hasegawa kit of the same subject in the stash as well. So down the rabbit hole I go! Cockpit colors are my interpretation and I believe the instrument panels were actually black, but here's the action so far: Tamiya cockpit Hasegawa cockpit:
  14. A one of prototype on the road to the inline variants of the venerable Fw-190. I had the hots for this variant and once considered scratchbuilding a conversion. Saner heads prevailed and I just had to wait for this mainstream release. She's kind of a chunky bird, and I'm not sure I'm as enamored as I once was. Out of the box except for Eduard belts and some tires swiped from the spares box to replace the anemic kit tires. I kept the weathering to a minimum as this was a flight test bird.
  15. The Airacobra in 1/48 from Hasegawa - really a great little kit, well detailed and good fit. Kit is out of the box save for Eduard belts and Eduard decals as the kit markings white, was more creme/beige than white.
  16. 1/48 Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XII. Mostly out of the box, including decals which were a bit thick. Hataka paints. Should have replaced the wheels, the hubs are on wrong (my fault). Kept the canopy closed because of that weird Airfix throwback. Cockpit is mostly invisible. Found photos of the real machine and as a result it is very lightly weathered and has no antennae. Not my favorite work or my favorite Spitfire kit, but kudos to Airfix for molding the more "exotic" marques.
  17. Fairleads for the forecastle. Fairleads are guides for the mooring lines. Kit parts with center detail removed. Photoetched rims and bases topped by brass pieces and a little more photo etch. For scale: Painted and drybrushed: More torture to come!
  18. To paraphrase Roy Scheider - We're going to need a bigger workbench. I have been fascinated by this ship and her stories for almost since my Dad took me to see the film Raise the Titanic in 1980. So when Trumpeter announced this, I knew I had to have one. Yes, that is the 1/350 Titanic behind the Trumpeter hull. The Pontos detail set soon followed. I view this as a long term build. The Pontos set with it's 13 frets of photo etch, many brass parts and wooden decks is, frankly, daunting. I want to do this right and do it justice. So I decided to start with the forecastle and move aft. Trumpeter forecastle from the box: And after shaving off kit parts to make way for the Pontos bits: Teak margin planks begun to be colored in. Cargo hatch #1 painted. Anchor well painted. Winch platform behind the fore mast installed:
  19. 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1 "Birdcage" Corsair. Another one started two years ago and finally finished. Marking for Marine Corps 2LT Kenneth Walsh, who became the first Corsair ace in 1943. Eduard PE used for seatbelts and instrument panel. Aeromaster decals for the markings. A Family Portrait.
  20. Another Covid completion. The venerable 1/48 Monogram B-24D. This machine is actually a US Navy PB4Y-1 Liberator used in anti sub patrol flying out of Brazil in 1943. This one languished on the shelf for too long. The original mold dates back to 1976. One of Monogram's big WW2 bombers. A lot of scratchbuilt and kit bashed parts went into this one - detail in the bomb bay and kit bashed parts in the nose compartment and radio room. Brake lines and detailing on the landing gear. Accurate Miniatures depth charges and ammo can assembly for the dorsal turret. Koster white metal, resin and vac parts for the rear turret. Not perfect - and I see a couple of things I need to fix, but it's 99.99% finished!
  21. A very inspirational build. I have this kit and it is daunting. You are doing yeoman work on it!
  22. Finally brought this one over the line Easter weekend. A very well engineered kit with about 10,000 stencil decals.
  23. I don't build a lot of armor, but I really enjoyed this one. Tried some new painting and weathering techniques. Marking (what little they are) are for a machine in Ukraine in 1941
