Apparently the photographer was there to take photos for a farming article when they heard the aircraft. What I've gathered is , it was 13th Septmember 1962, Lightning XG332 being flown by test pilot George Aird suffered control failure on final approach to Hatfield, Hertfordshire Certainly one way to dig the spuds i suppose Steve

At the weekend i was on the Isle of Man for a family function held at the social club of RLC Ronaldsway (supplier of Martin-Baker ejection seats) On the walls were many photos of the seats being used for the purpose they were designed for, but this one totally blew me away - Steve

I remember buying this kit as a young lad & the Bloodhound missile set was missing too, i wrote off to Airfix to let them know and carried on with the Herc'. Airfix wrote back & said that if i returned the kit they would dispatch another, i wrote back explaining that i had built the aircraft & only needed the "payload"... A week or so later a parcel arrives .... rather than just send the Bloodhound missile set , i got another Herc' & missile set. Times have certainly changed , now i cant even get a reply to an email to them Steve

I've just ordered a Nimrod from Plastic Pastimes through ebay, they have a limited number where the boxes have been damaged & disposed of, the kit/instuctions/decals are guaranteed complete & undamaged These are being sold at £24.99 with free UK P & P , so how much do we actually pay for the packaging ? If I can save £13, I'm only too happy for it to be put in a jiffy bag ... the box only gets thrown away at the end anyway... I've just managed to obtain a 1/72 Italeri Merlin HM1 from a friend, unfortunately he's "mislaid" the instruction sheet ! Would anyone have a copy that could be scanned & emailed perhaps ?? Also, what is the correct fuselage colour ? ... I plan to build this kit as a presentation piece for my son who has recently joined the Navy & will be training at RNAS Culdrose as an aircraft handler , so I'd like to get the Merlin as correct as possible. Is there anything I should be aware of with this kit ? ..I've ordered an Eduard photo etch set from Hannants for all those little extras Many Thanks Steve
