  1. That's sounds great Geoff - I did find some thick label tape in the Warehouse office - but it was nearly 50 bucks a roll which is too rich considering what I needed it for - this sounds like just the ticket...
  2. Thanks for that - I think trying at least 'one new thing' every project has been working well for me so far - Plus the fact that it's a lot of fun. Thanks Geoff - with the riveting tool that I have from trumpeter - you really need something to steady it against when trying to do straight lines - as the tool wants to do its own thing (off to bendy line land) so I think a very thick tape would work quite well - there are other tools out there that work better I think but are way more expensive - and I'm a cheapskate. You have to lean quite heavily on the tool to get visible rivets which means you're more prone to error...
  3. Looks brilliant - great job. I have the Bandai awing in my stash - looking at yours means that it might be the next project. Love how you did the weathering.
  4. @Roger Newsome Jeepers - thanks for the heads up. And I thought things where going so well. I’ve worked on few Airfix kits recently and they’ve been either really good or bloody terrible fit wise. Especially how the wings fit to the fuselage. Sounds like a possibly painful night ahead.
  5. Hi all - having recently got back into the hobby and after a very nice welcome from everyone here, I thought I’d put my latest work in progress on here for some scrutiny- it’s the current Airfix typhoon which is a plane I’ve always loved - and Airfix kits seem to build pretty well (mostly) and they're nice and cheap. So with every build I’m trying to expand the skill set and try something new - this time I’m adding some pe parts from Eduard for the cockpit and attempting some riveting. I’m also going to go for some nice weathering on the fuselage using oils and maybe some double layer chipping... we’ll see how it goes. After 4 nights (about 8 hours) I have the following: My first photo etched part assembled and painted... I thought this was going to be a nightmare but it turned out okay I think. All done with a modeling knife and tweezers. Cockpit all done and ready for assembly- all that lovely detail that no one will ever see. So far so good. I painted the base colors with Tamiya cockpit green - used Tamiya panel line wash and chipping with a silver artist pencil which works surprisingly welling as it’s a pencil. Dry fit of the fuselage half’s seems okay. Some fiddling required on the cockpit seat. Glued, clamped and left to dry. I haven’t tried riveting before but love the extra detail it brings out - using this as a source and using my new riveting tool from trumpeter I hacked out rivets on the upper wings. The results are so so... I really need to figure out a better way to do this before doing the rest of the model. I used a transparent ruler to use but it kept slipping and so quite a few rivets went where they shouldn’t go. I was going to use label tape but the stuff I got was way too thin. If there any kiwis or aussies know a good brand to get for this job I’d appreciate it. That’s all for now - thanks for reading and for any feedback you have to offer. I’m only working on this for the moment so it should be a relatively quick build.
  6. Thanks for your nice comments - it’s this one: https://thcc.nz/products/airfix-01008-1-72-messerschmitt-bf-109e?variant=12519323828297&utm_campaign=gs-2018-08-30&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign It’s a great kit especially for the price... enjoy.
  7. I really like this - The Cessna is a wonderful airplane that doesn't get much love - you've done a great job on this - Looking forward to seeing the 180 when complete... Also - I'm interested in getting a Cessna 172 and a piper Cherokee kit - can you recommend a brand name to look out for?
  8. Very nice - scheme is very cool - what did you use for the rigging? Looking to start using rigging on my 1/72 aircraft....
  9. Very impressive - shows that you can still produce something amazing without an airbrush. Beautiful finish all over - the wood effect on the prop is very nice. What paints did you use? Guessing oils on the wings? Also - the photos are great
  10. Hi Peter - that is one fine looking p-51 - well built and excellent paint job. Really like the scheme on this one - yellow tail section looks superb. Well done. I'd like to see some more photos please from different angles. I know what you mean re. loading images - I've been a web developer for 20 years and I struggled to work it out. I'll give you my method: When you've loaded your images to Flickr, hit the share button on each photo - flickr will pop up a URL (web address) in large letters, under the social media icons - copy this and paste it directly into the forum edit screen (under your text or where ever you want the image to appear) - once you've done this. hit return on your keyboard to go to a new line, wait a few seconds and then your image should then appear - because it can take a few seconds for it to pop on, you think its not working... but it's just taking it's sweet time - wait time can be longer if you're using a large image... Well done on your first post - hopefully the first of many!
  11. Very very nice. The detail on this kit is stunning. You did a brilliant job bringing it out.
  12. Very cool - very effective use of motion effects - love it
  13. That looks pretty good from here - at least from this picture - looks like a good build and a really good paint job. I know what you mean about messing up clear coats - put a final gloss coat on a finished model a few weeks ago and it totally destroyed the finish and weathering - not sure what to do with it - might go back and try to tidy it up at some stage. It is a very cool paint scheme - it's why I decided to do this model. Doing it at 1;48 with an Eduard kit? - it will be amazing - can't wait to see it!!!
  14. Very nice Zero - the newer Airfix kits in this scale are great - love your stippling - did you use the hair spray technique or maskol or just painted on? - I've tried to do this with varied success - yours looks bang on.
  15. Excellent work on display here - paint job and weathering looks spot on...
  16. Beautiful spit - love the paint work and weathering - newbie question - what scale is it? I'm assuming 1:48?
  17. Very nice indeed - well done - apparently Airfix don't make these stands anymore - I was unable to source any the last time I checked...
  18. You can easily mix paints to get the colour you want - I'd advise getting some empty paint containers (which you can usually get from the model shop) and making up a batch which you can then keep for doing further coats and touch ups - as mixing new batches afterwards can be hard! Found this out the hard way:)
  19. Gorgeous looking model - did you use the black basing, marbling effect technique or something else - came out perfect in any case.
  20. @Winenut' You pretty much nailed it - lol - I've spent a small fortune on new kits, supplies and airbrush in the the last few months - but all very worth it, it must be said - I couldn't be happier. Kids, gave up interest on building pretty quickly but still like to see daily progress... Thanks for your kind words
  21. Very nice work - hard to believe it's an older kit
  22. Very nice - I really like the "Duck egg" colour you achieved on the underside. Weathering is just right too.
  23. Very nice natural metal finish... what paint did you use? Very nice job
