Sad to see a company go but under Academy maybe a series of fresh issues- also they were always rather pricey to me with Academy being in my opinion good value maybe the prices will fall into line with their own 👍
I hope is the case with their 1/48 T-34A/B kits!

While he deserves punishment if he did what he was convicted for, publishing photo, full name and almost the full residential address (bar house number) is a touch too much for me. Pillory.
This is absolutely standard behaviour in England and Wales (don't know the rules elsewhere in the UK). Convictions are a matter of public record and police forces will publicise the photo, name and street address of convicted criminals along with their sentence as good publicity to show they're doing their job. It's considered a disincentive to offending - every Christmas my work will publish photos, names and street addresses of drink/drug drive convictions, for example.

Here's where my collection (started in 1994) has got to:
Blue line is cumulative total bought (351), red cumulative line is total built (161), and the green line is the difference (190 - i.e. the stash!). These are all 1/48 post-WWII aircraft.

What does slightly irritates me is the way that when any product is mentioned, the website is mentioned in brackets straight afterwards.
I don't think SAM does this...does it? I know that Airfix Model World does, and I agree it's irritating.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It was a challenging build, but the paint work was very enjoyable.

Hello all,
I finished Tanmodel's 1/48 Republic RF-84F Thunderflash (second boxing) at the end of February and I believe it will be featured in the May 2023 issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling. More photos are at https://jonbryon.com/tanmodel-1-48-republic-rf-84f-thunderflash/.
Additions are CMK resin ailerons and flaps (not worth it IMO), refuelling probe from the spares box, anti-collision light cut out and replaced with UV resin, pitot from Albion Alloys brass tubing and decals (mostly) from Caracal. Paint is a mixture of Mr Color and Hataka airbrushed freehand (except on the wing LE).
It's an ambitious effort from Tanmodel that requires a lot of work from the modeller.
Comments very welcome and thanks for looking,

Or, 'The McDonnell Douglas F-4K Phantom FG.1 in British Service'.
TBF, you don't even need 'British'. 'The McDonnell Douglas F-4K Phantom FG.1 in service' is functionally equivalent

If the book covers use by the RAF of the FG.1 variant (and I'm wondering now if it does), then the title could be 'The Phantom FG.1 in Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and A&AEE service'.
I've only just noticed that discrepancy! The book does indeed cover RAF use, with photos, model builds and profiles of RAF FG.1s, but it's not mentioned in the title...

Thanks everyone for the input on this question.
@KLP Publishing It's a great book and very good value. I picked it up as soon as I heard you interviewed by On The Bench a while ago.
@EELightning Thanks for the explanation. I look forward to the updated version - you might also want to incorporate this (if not already done so): http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234969364-boscombe-down-phantom-questions-questions/#entry1770841

Indeed. The other strange omission is no mention of made of the unique fuel dump mast fitted at the base of the rudder of Brit Phantoms.
On the whole though, it's a good publication and excellent value.

Royal Navy FG1s had probes from the start. Remember that they were technically heavily modified F-4Js to start off with.
Thank you! Looks like the book is wrong

I'm making Hasegawa's 1/48 Phantom FG.1 as a Royal Navy airframe from 892 NAS, and in the earlier form without the RWR at the top of the fin.
I have KLP's e-publication on the FG.1 written by Geoff Couglin, which makes the claim in several places that RN Phantoms did not have refuelling probes and they were retro-fitted to FG.1s when they were transferred to the RAF.
However, in other publications I own, I have at least two photos of 892 Phantoms in flight taking fuel from RN Buccaneers, and a further photo of an 892 FG.1 on the ground with the refuelling probe extended.
So what's going on? Is Mr Couglin wrong? Or were RN Phantoms retro-fitted whilst still with the RN? Or something else entirely?
Many thanks for any help

Can I ask you a question? I'm currently building a Thunderstreak also and I'm looking at your build. What kind of color have you used for the "split" part in the air intake? I've looked at a lot of pictures and those are mostly black and white, and I can't make out a definitive colour.. I can see that the air intake itself is I think black, but the split is metallic. Steel? Aluminium?
I have no idea what it should be, but mine is duraluminum.

Interestingly, the Yak-52 first flew in 1976, and the CJ-6 first flew in 1958...
The tails are completely different so they're easy to tell apart!

Hello All,
A quick build that took around three and a half weeks over Christmas into the New Year. This is Trumpeter's little 1/48 CJ-6 with some scratchbuilt cowl intakes, tail lights (above and below), and housing-thing under the rear fuselage. I moved the step as well to a more accurate location. Other changes were a pitot from Albion Alloys brass tubing and seat belts from some generic Eduard set.
Quite a nice kit that goes together pretty well, and finished in a scheme I found a couple of photos of. Kit decals were used for the national insignia and stencils; the white numerals are all masked and airbrushed. There's a fair amount of lead in the nose...
This is being published in next month's SAM with in-progress photos.
Comments welcome and thanks for looking

I forgot that AMP have already released a 1/48 OH-6A a good few years ago: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/amp-401-oh-6a-loach--130475
I wonder what the relationship between that and the new one will be?

I can't seem to find anything from Arma-Models on the 48ers webpage. Not even their name when I search on manufacturer.

Sorry, I was referring to another company just to make the point about how difficult (in my case, apparently impossible) it is to buy products direct from Russia. I was trying to get something from AMUR Reaver.

Why?
I've been trying to buy a product from a Russian aftermarket company for a while, and it's proving impossible. You just can't make payment.
Annoyingly they only sell outside Russia via the 48ers, and their UK minimum spend is 150 euro...!

Hello all,
I finished this last year and I heard yesterday it will be published in the March issue of SAM, which will have plenty of in progress photos (I hope!). In the meantime, here are some images of the finished product.
This is Kinetic's first kit which I've modified quite heavily. The tail has been shortened and the large parachute housing replaced with a scratchbuilt keel. The nose was replaced with the more accurate resin QB version and the wingtip lights removed for smaller versions to be added. The nose pitot is brass tubing. The markings are based on decals provided by SuperScale.
It's a rough enough kit, but I enjoyed making it and I think it's a superb looking aircraft. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.
