[Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21F-13 'Fishbed-C']

Hi all,

[1/48 Eduard Mirage lll]

Pretty sure I've seen this problem before on a Eduard Mirage III build so I don't think you're alone. I do however believe the kit is an Academy rebox so I don't think that the Eduard designers are to blame!

Nah, it's Eduard all the way Nothing to do with Academy. The wing to fuselage fit is a little problematic, as is a lot of the kit. The three MiG-21s I'm building at the moment blow the Mirage out of the water...

Very nice. I myself am building the same kit in the same markings. How did you decide which part in front of the windscreen to use (J5 or J8)?

I was too hasty and ordered the wrong set! I don't need the decals and PE. Fortunately Sincere Hobby refunded me the difference and postage super-quick. Excellent service from them - very friendly - and if all arrives well I shall be using them again

[Mr Mark Question]

I rarely use Mr Mark Softer, but if I do I just brush it thinly over the dried decal.

Here's another recent example using my method. The '1420' has been applied according to the steps I lay out in the article above, over some pretty serious surface detail. The AMK decals are not exactly thin, but I think the way they have conformed is pretty astonishing given I simply float the decal on a pool of Mr Setter and then do exactly nothing to it:

I've used Daco Strong quite a few times and never had any success. I think everyone eventually comes up with a method that works for them. I've got mine to work with a very wide variety of decals (including Revell and Tamiya) and can't see how I could get better results than I am getting. Decals are voodoo

I disagree. Mr Setter struggled with some Revell Tornado decals of mine. Daco Strong? Another story. Awesome.

Well, I tried Jon's method with Micro Set with mixed success, though that may have been more to my mistakes with the application. On the whole I had good results with well hidden carrier film, but a couple of decals did not go into the pane lines.

I think Mr Setter is quite a different beast to Micro Set - it certainly looks totally different. I've never had any significant success with Micro Set.

One additional word of warning: don't use Mr Setter on top of Klear. It works very well on top of Tamiya X-22 and Gunze gloss varnishes.

I usually use the clear floor wax (future) are you saying that this doesn'tt work very well with your method?

Klear and Mr Setter are very different products, so I wouldn't expect my method to work with Klear/Future. It might though; you'd have to try

Interesting, I am about to start decalling a couple of FW190's so might try this on one or two and report back.

I'll only vouch for it working with Mr Setter All bets are off for other setting agents.

Lovely job Jon, both superb...as usual with AMK it's a great little kit, I've also got one waiting in the wings with all the extra bits and pieces.....after seeing these I'm looking forward to getting on with it.

Hi All,

Here are a couple of AMK 1/48 Delfins. The Soviet one was built for myself and has added seat belts, Quickboost resin intakes and pitots and static wick dischargers made from Albion Alloys brass tubing. The Czech(oslovakian?) one was built as a commission for AMK and is straight from the box. Both finished with Mr Color paints (mainly 8 Silver) oversprayed with Pollyscale acrylic Semi-Gloss. FWIW, scalemates.com is a good starting place for looking for this kind of thing. It's not complete by any means, but it is getting there.

I wonder if that set corrects the shape problems, or simply makes the kit intakes seamless? Anyone know?

Mine just arrived in the UK. Nice casting. Mine is slightly asymmetrical about the longitudinal axis, but it should shape up during attachment and subsequent sanding.
