Indeed. Pay a visit to my website (www.jonbryon.com) and you'll see I've recently done a MiG-15, 17, 19, 21 an L-29...and I'm about to finish three more MiG-21s in NMF...all in USSR markings What I'd really like is a Flashlight and Fiddler in 1/48...one can but dream!

No worries. I am in no rush - I've already built the TM and only bought the Flagon-A to replace part E1 (fortunately I was in China and the donor kit was much cheaper than in the UK)! The latter is unlikely to be built by me for a good many years, so don't detain yourself in fiddling with your fuselage - just bear me in mind if you ever decide to throw it away I shall look forward to the build article in the future. RM attempted to deliver mine today while I was sleeping off a night shift and I shall have to wait until Saturday to receive it. Jon

If you ever get around to this, would you mind donating part E1 from the Su-15 to me, assuming you don't use it? Unfortunately I lost mine I'd be really grateful if you could bear it in mind Will the Yak-28 feature in AMW? Regards Jon

I'm a subscriber although it's about to expire and I don't intend to renew. That's nothing to do with this new development - in fact, I find it rather attractive - but simply because there are not that many articles in SAM that interest me and the modelling quality is too patchy. I shall return to browsing on the shelf and buying it if useful, but I will have no complaints about missing out on the extra 8 pages. It must be a cutthroat world in the arena of aircraft modelling magazines and I have no problem with SAM trying to stabilise their revenue by offering incentives to people who put their money down in advance. Best of luck SAM! Jon

+1. I'd love to see a profile of the NMF example; that would tempt me to buy, if I liked it. Jon

Trumpeter 1:48 Su-24M Fencer + Komplekt Zip, Aires

Not seen the resin version, so don't know, but I'm unimpressed with the vac-form, especially as I want a closed cockpit for mine. Jon -

This is in my stash too, so I am following with interest. Does your KZ front fuselage set come with vac-formed canopy glass, or resin? Mine is vac-formed, but I know earlier sets came with clear resin parts instead. Jon -
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21F-13 'Fishbed-C'

Thanks Muzz. Don't get to update it as much as I like 😀. Because Eduard don't make a MiG-21F-13 😉. I can confirm though that the Eduard kit is worthy of praise - I'm building three in one go at the moment and it is a fantastic kit. Cheers Jon -

Thanks! Eduard don't make this model of MiG-21, but in general the Eduard MiG-21 kits, which are of later versions, are far, far superior to Trumpeter's Fishbed, both in terms of detail, fit and accuracy. I am currently building Eduard's MiG-21R, MiG-21MF and MiG-21bis and they are going together beautifully. The MiG-21bis, however, has an inaccurate nose, for which I am using Cold War Studio's resin correction set. HTH Jon -

Thanks everyone They are not like Tamiya acrylics. The Mr Hobby Aqueous range is similar to Tamiya, and can be mixed with them, but Mr Color is different. Mr Color are not enamels, but they are pretty toxic; they are not alcohol based, although they can be cleaned with alcohol (but cellulose/lacquer thinners is what's recommended). You can mask over it no problem, but I make sure the plastic is clean by wiping it down with 100% alcohol. Jon -

Thanks It's the Mr Color range, which are *not* water soluble. I think they are called acrylic laquers. I thin them with Mr Leveling Thinner. Jon -
Hi all, Here is my recently finished Trumpeter 1/48 MiG-21F-13. The decals are Begemot and the wheels are Eduard Brassin. The finish is Mr Color Silver/Steel/Gun Chrome. A full write up can be found at https://jonbryon.com/trumpeter-148-mikoyan-gurevich-mig-21f-13-fishbed-c/. Comments welcome Cheers Jon

Nah, it's Eduard all the way Nothing to do with Academy. The wing to fuselage fit is a little problematic, as is a lot of the kit. The three MiG-21s I'm building at the moment blow the Mirage out of the water... https://jonbryon.com/mirage3c-html/ https://jonbryon.com/mirage3cj-html/ Jon

Very nice. I myself am building the same kit in the same markings. How did you decide which part in front of the windscreen to use (J5 or J8)? Thanks Jon

1/48 Limited Edition MiG-31BM/BSM 88003-S
Jon Bryon replied to Martin @ AMK Hobby's topic in The Rumourmonger
I was too hasty and ordered the wrong set! I don't need the decals and PE. Fortunately Sincere Hobby refunded me the difference and postage super-quick. Excellent service from them - very friendly - and if all arrives well I shall be using them again Jon -

Who do I do this from in the UK? I can't see a preorder option at Hannants. Thanks Jon -
Here's how I use Mr Mark Setter: https://jonbryon.com/2016/03/15/decals/ I rarely use Mr Mark Softer, but if I do I just brush it thinly over the dried decal. Jon
-
Here's another recent example using my method. The '1420' has been applied according to the steps I lay out in the article above, over some pretty serious surface detail. The AMK decals are not exactly thin, but I think the way they have conformed is pretty astonishing given I simply float the decal on a pool of Mr Setter and then do exactly nothing to it: Jon
-
I've used Daco Strong quite a few times and never had any success. I think everyone eventually comes up with a method that works for them. I've got mine to work with a very wide variety of decals (including Revell and Tamiya) and can't see how I could get better results than I am getting. Decals are voodoo Jon
-
Did you use my method, or go with the conventional one? Jon
-
I think Mr Setter is quite a different beast to Micro Set - it certainly looks totally different. I've never had any significant success with Micro Set. One additional word of warning: don't use Mr Setter on top of Klear. It works very well on top of Tamiya X-22 and Gunze gloss varnishes. Jon
-
Klear and Mr Setter are very different products, so I wouldn't expect my method to work with Klear/Future. It might though; you'd have to try Cheers Jon
-
I'll only vouch for it working with Mr Setter All bets are off for other setting agents. Jon
