  1. Ready for priming. This will reveal any problems that I need to address. Sorry the pictures are so dark Now this really is a Vulcan B1a! Primed in Citadel Corax White, a number of flaws are revealed. You can also see a salvaged 1/72 Vulcan cockpit from another model in the background..... That will be on WIP soon(ish) Basically a number of panel lines weren't filled properly
  2. These pilots are tiny!! This just shows how huge the Vulcan, even the B1/1a, actually was. Not bad for this scale me thinks. So tiny in this model Canopy on and masked with PVA glue. Think it works quite nice for the awkward shaped windows. Oh and I need to deal with that scratch on the side of the fuselage. Look what I forgot to glue on....... Canopy interior colour painted on. Next up, painting the model white and probably preshading.
  3. I'd ignore the instructions, they're rather rubbish with that kit. It's nice to see a Vulcan other than 558 being built. I don't think I'll ever build a 558 in a large scale just because of how many are done, at least not in the VDF/VTTST scheme. Must say though, you have chosen the best Vulcan B2 scheme, camo over white/grey.
  4. An ancient one from 1973....
  5. Just a thought... Not that it's even remotely likely, but what about a Ju86? There's a surviving example (and another almost complete wreck found in the last week or so) and Airfix have done the somewhat comparable Whitley.
  6. And so work resumes This is far from perfect and I'm not particularly happy with it overall. At least I've fixed the camouflage now. Decals on, not great but they'll do. An aftermarket set would be great. Please just ignore the mess that is the airbrake fins. Next one I think will probably have milliput copies of GWH airbrakes or something... I'm not convinced that blue is correct but I'll go with it. On the underside, I've done a tad of basic weathering with various pencils. The gear doors are only held on by blue tac, they need a lot of trimming down to even be close to fitting closed. It's clear this was not intended to be built gear up. For a stand, I used a spare (damaged) stand from a Revell (ICM) 1/144 Tu144D (built as CCCP-77110, a TU144S). That's another one that needs finishing touches doing so it might make an appearance in the KUTA XII GB. Might even build another next year, I love Tupolevs (although they're better off on the ground). The underside of the stand was packed with Milliput to hold the brass rod in place. A lot of CA glue was used in this and a lot found its way onto my hands. Good job acetone is a solvent for that stuff, always readily avaiable on a modeller's desk.

  8. Don't think the difference between white and silver is the most important thing in that scale. I think I'll go silver. While getting very annoyed at the fact that Cosford had both XA900 and XM598 for three years at the same time before XA900, the last surviving Vulcan B1 (and I believe by a good few years, most were scrapped around 1970), I moticed one thing absent on the Vulcan B2 that that I hadn't previously noticed. On the left side of the nose (right of the picture) there is some sort of small intake (just forward of the gear doors). I probably won't bother adding it in 1/144, does anyone know what it is?
  9. Picking this back up, the first thing I need to do is dust off the model. Looking much cleaner than it did and ready for completion. The pitot tubes have been removed so I don't break them This will be tidying up a little A decal has to go over those (inaccurate) vortex generators. Think on the next one (if I can get hold of another) I'll just remove them. I cut into the decal which should make it easier. I'll patch it up afterwards with xtracolour pale roundel red
  10. Most of the decals already applied are mainly just the fuselage roundels and any serials. A decal has to go over those (inaccurate) vortex generators. Think on the next one (if I can get hold of another) I'll just remove them. I cut into the decal which should make it easier. I'll patch it up afterwards with xtracolour pale roundel red
  11. First thing I need to do is dust off the model. Looking much cleaner than it did and ready for completion. The pitot tubes have been removed so I don't break them This will be tidying up a little The canopy will not be glued on on this model. It slots on nicely.
  12. An impressive display for sure. I'm just cringing at the cost of all the models!
  13. (Ignore this I had a stupid moment)
  14. I believe a Spitfire will easily fit under the wings of a vulcan
  15. And these guys need painting. I love that GWH include them in the kit even in this scale. Link to an image of Vulcan crew that I will use as a reference for colours. https://images.app.goo.gl/XfLRMZaSSrKjfC7JA
  16. I have made a summary of all the modifications I made to the model for anyone to use as a guide if they wish to do this conversion. I will make a much more detailed one at some point (without all the ticking off what I've done).
  17. I would love to do a straight wing Vulcan, either XA890 or VX770 in first flight livery with the anti glare patch. Aircraft almost always look best as the designer originally envisioned.
  18. A skill completely lost on me... I'm trying my hand on major conversion with very limited scratchbuilding on a Vulcan B1a.
  19. We have a full set of V Bombers in here now! What scheme will this be in? If it's 558, you'll need to do a few modifications yet. I built XM575 earlier this year, which has both ECM plates, the TFR blister and Olympus 301 engines, perfect for the Airfix kit.
  20. Looks very good. No pressure at all, but I did mine in 12 hours straight.
