  1. The Vanguard has always been Series 3 Paul. £10.99 is current rrp.
  2. Lifecolor UA108 is pretty good for Dark Sea Grey and 109 for Extra Dark Sea Grey.
  3. There are some good photos of XX732 on t'internet showing no overwing Sidewinders, all the undercarriage doors hanging down and airbrakes open. I've just bought this kit and the decal sheet (printed in Italy) looks far superior to that in the Airfix/Heller kit. I intend to build it clean, as it would have left the factory.
  4. Thanks Dave, please accept my apologies everyone as I was sure the Comet was still a series 3. I was looking at it just the other day too.
  5. I have both the Vanguard and Comet in the Classic Airliner series and both are series 3. Not sure why the Comet is now series 4, unless it's a new tool they are keeping quiet about?
  6. With this, the Britannia and the re-issue of the Airfix Vanguard in Red Square, the 707 in BOAC and Comet in BEA Airtours airliner modellers are in for a good year.
  7. I have the Roy Cross book which has some really superb examples of his work.
  8. Once the replacement instructions and decals missing from the kit (which was purchased new and sealed) arrive from Germany, I hope to get cracking on with this. I also bought some extras for the kit, including the Profimodeller landing gear strengthening set. The nose leg parts are fine but the instructions tell you to shorten the main gear leg, removing 3mm from the centre of the leg; the problem is, if you do this you cannot fit the wheel guards which wrap around the kit leg exactly at the point of removal. I'm considering cutting the metal part in two, trim to fit either side of the flat and installing the modified metal. I'm concerned that doing this will reduce the effectiveness of the metal and defeat the object. Thoughts anyone?
  9. Don't forget that these machines were all built by hand, so the likelihood of rivets lining up is extremely remote. Also notice from the top picture the awful fit at the front of the wing root.
  10. Pure Matt black on a 1/72 model is too stark. I use Tamiya NATO Black, others have their own choice.
  11. The new one in Bedford gets frequently visited. Our local model club has held several workshops there and more are planned.
  12. That's an excellent build, I also saw her twice, at Gransden and Duxford.
  13. And one hell of a racket of scraping metal without them.
  14. Lovely build so far Mish and thanks for the tips Jonners, I'll watch that when I get round to building mine.
  15. Excellent build of one of my all time favourite airliners Kev. I'm really pleased that Airfix have included this kit (albeit almost as old as me!) in the wonderful BEA Red Square scheme.
  16. Belated congratulations on reaching a stunning conclusion to an entertaining and informative build Ian. Could it be possible that the lower radar aerials had the red stripes to make them more visible in an effort to prevent people walking in to them, or would they have been too high anyway? Just a thought.
  17. Question 2. I know the 217 did but I'm not sure about the 17. I must admit never having seen pictures to that effect and would be surprised if there was sufficient ground clearance for under fuselage stores.
  18. It's due February according to the website page; there's also a new Mkl due at about the same time which I'm hoping is the new MkVb with Mkl wings.
  19. That's not what I was charged. Maybe I was lucky. 20% of $500 isn't £25. And that included the handling charge.
  20. The Felixstowe is twice the size of the Gotha.I believe the original quote was closer to $400.
