Tony,
This scheme was featured in SAM many years ago. IIRC it was torpedo equipped Hampdens coloured Dark Sea Grey over Sky. I believe that the rear end of the bomb bay doors were lower to accomodate the torpedo.
Unless anyone beats me to it, I can get you a scan from the article.

Many thanks for the quick response. The scan would be much appreciated. Does it show the alterations to the bomb bay as well or would that need to be sourced elsewhere?

Does anyone out there have access to Warpaint no 57 covering Hampden and Hereford variants? A friend at model club has recently purchased the FM (Fit Mal!?) kit as I have and he has asked me to enquire if anyone can shed any light on Hampdens painted in Medium Sea grey and/or Dark Sea Grey over Sky. The schemes were illustrated in a 1970's Air Illustrated (I think- it has a red cover) and he would like confirmation as to the authenticity of these schemes.
Having discovered the Warpaint exists I thought that might be a good place to start?
Thank you all.

Stunning model, absolutetop quality.

That looks great. I remember building one shortly after its release in the 1970's in the then Air Canada colours.

I'll definitely be investing in one of these Matt. I bought the Airfix kit on release but never built it. I hsve the Trumpeter Hood, Tamiya and Mini hobby Models King George V all in 1/350 scale so Repulse will look great amongst them. Hopefully though the new kit will cause less of a rumpus than Hood did; even Trumpeter issued update parts.

Superb work, Richard. A great tribute to the RNLI.

That looks great! It makes me wonder why the Swedes ever painted theirs in that complicated scheme recently phased out.

Camo pattern is excellent and that cockpit looks good, too. I have one to do and also a Hasegawa bubbletop.

There is one at Newark Air Museum also and I understand that the museum has plans to build a third hangar (they have secured the land) to specifically house the Vulcan, Shackleton and Hastings. I am a member of the museum and make several visits a year not only to keep tabs on the marvellous work they do (they are self-financing) but also to to raid the shop!

WOW!! Prize winning stuff.

Grt work, Rich. Thanks for taking the time to post the build photos; they will be referred to often when I start mine.

Great job, Rich. Rescribing the panel lines really does make a difference.

The resin wheel bays really do make a difference don't they. Love the work on the cockpit, too.

Lovely work, Jen. The hasegawa Hurricane raised the bar for me in terms of "from the Box" quality in 1/48th scale. Crafty though that they make them "Limited Edition by re-boxing with different decals!

How about the Trumpeter Sea Hawk? FAA 1950's schemes are colourful. Model Alliance produce an excellent decal sheet, too.

Great pics, Bex. I've got two of the Airfix 48th kits to do so these shots are most welcome. Do you think she'll ever get airborne again?

Outstanding work, the weapons bay looks great Tony. What did you use for the "airstairs"?

Lovely job Mattie, you obviously enjoyed the build. Looking forward to seeing the MR2

Hi Dave I've built a few of these iun my time but it wasn't until recently that I was made aware that the radio operators window (the Square one) is in the wrong place. It needs to be moved back so it is directly underneath the canopy blister. Also, the cockpit from the nav's position ie forward of the rear edge of the cockpit opening should be black. Belcher bits do outstanding replacement nacelles They way a ton (solid resin) but make all the difference.

I will have a go with my next build, on the real aircraft the Fairing Door should sit just below the top of the Wheels and it should have a slight nose down sit or be level, depending on the tempreture, How much to take off? I would't like to say its going to be trial and error, but once I have done it I will let everyone know
Many thanks Mattie really enjoying the build - your help is invaluable.

Mattie still works on them

I was thinking that when I placed them on, but I don't want to pull them out as its a very tight fit and I do not want to damage the gear, I will be filing the bottom of the wheels so it'll sit realistically
I have not moved the windows just filled some in, because I am doing R1 XW664 in her Grey Colours scheme with the lightened roof, which apparantly lowers the cabin temprature by 5 Degrees C,
Why 64 because it was the first R1 I worked on, moving the ground lock stowage from behind the Air Engineer to the toilet wall at the back door
Mattie re the undercarriage, I was toying with lowering the main gear by reducing the solid block of part 29E. How much plastic do you think I should remove? Presumably a similar amount would need to come off the nose gear?
Tony

-
Last one I built was thirty odd years ago before all this help was available. If I remember right the only gotcha I came across is if you leave the main gear as retractrable it's difficult to get the model to stand on it's own three feet.

Classic Airframes kits have never been "shake the box" but they have to be applauded for going where others fear to tread. Also, if the recent trend is continued (Wyvern, Sea Hawk) then Trumpeter may well follow up with, dare I say it, something a little more user friendly/

Stunning paintjob! Which yellow did you use?
