  1. Thanks for the search tips - mine always go off in the wrong direction!
  2. Can anyone point me to some good pictures, plans and cutaways of the interior of the Hampden - there seems to be plenty of the cockpit but not much else.
  3. Lots of info there so thanks guys. So far I've tried using water and that's a big improvement on Hannents Xtracrylik / Winsor and Newton retarder that I had been using
  4. Is there a knack to airbrushing life colour paint? I like the range but find actually getting the paint out of the airbrush very inconsistent sometimes far too watery otherwise finding it constantly clogging up. I'm using a retarder in the mix but its far too hit and miss!!
  5. Do you use acrylic or enamel paint to do this?
  6. Trouble is paint tends to come off wire too
  7. I make the pull handles at the top of the bang seat from thin wire, but painting the black and yellow is always a challenge and never totally satisfactory. I've seen some beautiful examples on this site. Does anyone have a good method they feel inclined to share? I should add that I'm talking 1/72 scale.
  8. My much delayed build of the Airfix Valiant is nearing completion. I've modded a few areas including the width of the nosewheel bay. I'll shorten the leg itself but can anyone tell me if it needs also to be moved further forward, and if so by how much? Also any recommendations on the paint to use for anti flash white. I seem to recal Halfords Appliance White being mentioned in the past - is it any good?
  9. Just found out that the chin mantlet was introduced in the same month that zimmerit was discontinued - so I guess I'll have to take it all off !!!!
  10. Thanks. I've been putting on the Monroe Perdu zimmerit set but it's for an early G. It has the vertical pattern - I didn't realise how specific the patterns were to manufacture! It was ok till I got to the chin mantlet where I needed to use putty at the ends. But I've not been able to find a photo showing that type of mantlet with any zimmerit at all - had it stopped being used by that time?
  11. Is Tamiya's late Panther G (MM176) representative of any particular manufacturer ... I was wondering if a green base coat scheme was appropriate rather than the yellow one given on the instructions?
  12. Thanks for all the thoughts ... looks like my SH will be heading for Ebay!
  13. Now the Airfix kit is well established, should I buy one and ditch my Special Hobby one - or stick with what I have?
  14. Thanks - so what's involved in bringing it up to an E (or F)?
  15. I have the Monogram B52 in its Vietnam Big Bad Beautiful boxing. I'd like to build a Houndog equipped NMF aircraft as per the more recent Italeri offering but I get the impression that kit has a wing without the drop as seen on an aircraft on the ground - any suggestions as to my best way forward?
  16. Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm not sure I can cut decal film narrow enough for 1/72 so I'll give the scratch and paint a go.
  17. How do people replicate the presence of the (typically) yellow gasket material that is used between canopy transparencies and frame on many aircraft?
  18. I read somewhere that Vietnam era aircraft had light grey or white wheel wells but they were green before that. The inside of the flaps and speed brakes were also red, I think the speed brake bay was as well but I'm not sure about that for the flap.
  19. What is the grey used on US F-101B? The Revell kit cites a mix of their paints - of which I'm not a fan, so what is the F.S. I should be looking for? Also suggestions for interior green - which is a good brand or mix please.
  20. Hasagawa"s Draken has what look like blanking pieces for what appears to be gun ports on the inboard wing leading edge - is it correct to fit them on the F variant?
  21. Thank you. Yes and carrying 2 tanks actually reduced range at max chat! Always wanted to do a Scimitar but the prices the 1/72 version fetches on Ebay are out if my reach.
  22. A few pics of my Sword F3 Demon that I made during lockdown. Mostly straight forward. One day I'll get round to fitting the missiles!
  23. Stressy
