  1. Cheers All, Mainly been cleaning up the leading edges of the wings - not that they need much tbh as this kit really does fall together. Front canopy was masked on the inside and sprayed Tamiya NATO Black and then glued into position. Masks on the outside will stay into the final reveal. Two areas that need to be assembled with care is the two wing pylons, the fit to the underside of the wing is not fantastic and needs to be fettled a little and the other area is the centreline drop tank, you really need to pay attention in getting the two halves together, with hindsight I'd clip off the alignment bumps and fit by hand. Drop tanks done so I'm going for a non symmetrical load out, centre tank and one large wing tank is the plan but i'm not 100% sure what else I'll hang off the hardpoints. It's a bit of a beast Even in 1/48th Enjoy
  2. That's a bit nice Bill, it can really be tarted up and made into a nice little build
  3. I was just thinking the very same thing 😗
  4. I'm sure you probably seen this Dave but I’ll post the link, it’s rather good for ref material. https://skyraider.org/skyassn/imcol.htm
  5. If you have a punch and die set you can make your own, some UV glue and some suitable foil from food packaging is a good source for the base. Punch out the size you need and and a drop of UV glue, cure it and job jobbed.
  6. Someone is going to point this out so you might want to check the advertised scale?
  7. I’m just expanding my repertoire of modelling skills, broadening my horizons 🤪
  8. Is it not finished yet? No potatoes were harmed in the making of this kit ⚠️
  9. I’ll just chip in 😉 It’s a pretty good kit as far as I remember, but you are right it’s not perfect. Tamiya took the lower hull from the Chally 1 kit and just used that for the basis for the Chally 2. It’s not a million miles away but there are some differences - please don’t ask me as I have forgotten 😮
  10. Very nicely finished, just the right amount of muck an grime on the running gear for a wagon operating in a muddy environment 👍
  11. Once you strip it give it a good polish up again and then spray the inside, you should find that it retains its clarity much better 👍
  12. A quick question, did you paint the clear colours on the outside of the canopy? It looks a bit foggy? I found that if you spray the inside it keeps it looking clear 👍
  13. Cheers chaps, thank you all for the great comments and the likes 👍
  14. Shown as the J model but it’s good for the H without the Yankee escape system, but out of stock. You could also use the J seat with the Yankee kit as the USN used them later on. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ED648842?result-token=1ISx9 This is a must have though, the tail wheel is really quite something. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ED648760?result-token=1ISx9
  15. It’s a great kit Dave, the H model was a consideration but the J one over for me. Have a look out for the USN seat from Eduard, if it’s anything like the J version then it’s worth the few pounds they are asking.
  16. Picked up about 12 years ago for a project just like this, not sure I”ve seen any others like this for a while?
  17. Wings on Fit is pretty good with only a few small gaps around leading edge of the wings, nothing a dab of Mr Surfacer wont cure. Flaps fitted, I read that the Spad at rest always had the flaps stowed so I'm going with that. Helmet gets some detail painting, basic highlights and shadow. If someone is having a hard time finding their Mojo this kit will sort it out, its fantastic, goes together really well, good detail and a great colour scheme Enjoy
  18. Most of the USAF Spads had the wingtip light mod so I've added the housing, pictures are very scarce of these things so I broke out my ZM kit which has these to use as a template. I can join the wings now and get them on the fuselage. Centreline drop tank got some work done along with the arrester hook. Pilots helmet gets the first pass of OD Enjoy
  19. Cheers chaps Onto the main gear legs, one completed and ready for install. White MRP primer followed by Tamiya LP-2 gloss white, sealed in with MRP Super clear gloss and then hit with Tamiya Black Panel liner. Tyres are MRP tyre black with hubs in LP-2 white and then some really thinned down panel liner. Dirt in the treads is AK dust effects. Brake discs are Mig Ammo polished metal and then given a wash of Games Workshop Nun oil. Mike Grant Decals for the data plate and some red decal used for the tyre slip marks. Last thing to do is matt or satin varnish to seal it all in. Also found in the stash some Vietnam era USAF helmets, one will hang off the side of the cockpit. Enjoy

    Tamiya Acrylic

Get a bottle of the Tamiya drying retarder, it will help out a lot, just to point out Tamiya paints do not brush very well so you have your work cut out mate. https://www.1001hobbies.co.uk/supplies-auxiliary-products/52063-tamiya-tami87114-acrylic-drying-retardant-4950344871148.html?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkpqjm768hAMVgZNQBh3ClAEoEAQYASABEgKgkvD_BwE
  21. Top notch modelling, my only criticism is that it needs a base to sit proudly upon 👍
  22. Awe bless 🤪 I’m still kicking about but building the Tamiya A-1J Skyraider over on the ‘cough’ Aircraft side of the forum. Normal service will resume shortly and you will see me back on this side of the forum soon enough.
  23. The exhausts on our 43’s would end up looking like that after a few hours of running, they were regularly repainted as you can imagine. New IRR green paint would heat change to a salmon pink hue before cracking and falling off. Then you get the same patina as the photo you attached.
  24. Very nice work indeed, it’s going together really well 👍 The cockpit is looking superb, just to point out the two round canisters on the rear bulkhead are S6 respirator filters which form part of the crew NBC system should be painted Matt/satin black.
