  1. Hi All, For me a continuing quest, every so often I try to find out more about the operation starkey markings. I have the markings for the whirlwinds, bostons, spitfires, sorted out. Typhoons and Mustangs sorted, (thanks to past info from chris thomas & also from his excellent 2nd TAF series of books.) As I understand it the Mitchells carried no markings. First question did the Venturas carry markings. My next question is the american units. Has anyone seen any info/photos on the B-26 aircraft used, units were the 322d BG , 323d BG , 386th BG , 387th BG Cheers Jerry
  2. Hi Interesting as the profile is done for the date the L1000 crashed, 10-july-40, and the aircraft had always been with 610 since delivery in Oct 39, Likewise for K9959 with 72 sqn when it crashed on 26 aug-40, and had been with them since delivery, may 39. I suppose it is remotely possible that they never got repainted. I wonder if the profiler had access to photos of the crashed aircraft. Cheers Jerry
  3. Hi Mark, Thanks for the posting the photo, very interesting, good luck with the searching. cheers Jerry
  4. Hi I used these guys when i was in the UK, http://www.rollmodels.net/index2.htm they have .... Engines & Things 1/48 Resin British Engines ENG48103 Rolls Royce Merlin XX/XXI for Lancaster I,III,VII, Spitfire II, Beaufighter II, Defiant II, Halifax II,V, Hurricane II,V, Mosquito MK I,II,IV,VI, Whitley MK-5 cheers Jerry
  5. Hi All, Anyone now the dates/time scale when they were used by the units. Cheers Jerry
  6. Hi Just a thought, but the engine was a merlin XX power egg, as used by the beaufighter II,(etc), there might be a conversion out there for the revell 1/32 beaufighter which would give you the engine, and save a lot of work. I often wonder if this power egg is what westlands intended to use on the merlin whirlwind in 41. Cheers Jerry
  7. Hi All, many thanks for the replies. Cheers Jerry
  8. Hi I am going from memory, but when I went to Kew in the late 70's i came across a file called something like...bomber command loss register...It had seials codes, a/c i/d letter etc. Maybe a post on TOCH may help you. http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/forumdisplay.php?f=7 or a post on RAF commands, but don't mention lost bombers website......... http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1 also on Flypast there are regular visitors to Kew,some kind person may look it up for you. http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/forumdisp...sprune=&f=4 Cheers Jerry
  9. Hi All, I seem to be specializing in cheap kits with no canopies... My latest purchase is a 1/32 revell mosquito, (a project for this winter), the canopy is missing, but the price was very good. Does anyone know if an after market canopy is available ? Failing this, I already have a complete kit, which I which i can use to help me mould a new one, or I might just try turning it into a fighter version. Cheers Jerry

  20. Hi Just came across this and remembered this thread, there is a nice clear close up photo of the gun pack ( wrongly captioned as a turret ) part way down the page cheers jerry http://www.404squadron.com/May1943.html the photo album is worth a browse http://www.404squadron.com/gallery1.html ( 9 pages about 20 photos per page )
  21. Hi Ross, Thanks, I look forward to your e mail, I am also trying to find all my GRU notes from the PRO/NA, so i might be able to update your list. I found one page of my notes which has :- L7999 arrived 10 june 1940 at GRU Exeter L7999 left GRU 7 August 1940. It should have been in the revised camouflage scheme of June '40, ( sky undersurfaces, etc, roughly like an early 25 Sqn beaufighter) So i just have to find the ones that mentions the dates for 1941-42, ( then possibly I could use a post Aug '41 scheme at least, or maybe even a post may'42 scheme ). I have also wondered if it carried the codes, so far the few photos i have seen of GRU aircraft all carry the 'HP' code, so I personally think it was a strong possibility. Cheers Jerry
  22. Hi From memory I seem to remember this captioned somewhere, as south africa 45/46 Cheers Jerry
  23. Hi Ross, Thanks for the offer,I will pm you my e mail address later. Yeah probably the one at the GRU, ( I was never sure if the peregrine example went to exeter), An interesting aircraft L7999 , as i was told by someone who was at exeter that the poles of 307Sqn, 'borrowed it for some unofficial night flights, they really liked the a/c, but were told to cease use of it, when powers higher up heard about the flights. I kick myself as in the 80's I knew someone who could put me in contact with an ex GRU member who had loads of info, but I never did meet him. If I ever go back to the UK I must visit the NA and browse the GRU files for aircraft serials. If the beaufighter seems a good option as a basis, I might have a think about the 1/32 revell, a have a few in the garage, I got them very cheap this side of the pond, I was originally thinking of a beafort or brigand conversion, but have slowly gone off the idea. Cheers Jerry
  24. Hi All, I've been toying with the idea of a 1/48 gloster F9/37 for some time now, and thought I will throw it out into the melting pot for ideas. I am trying to be lazy, anyone have any suggestions for which kits I can cannibalize for parts ? Initial thoughts are beaufighter as a basis for the engines, cowlings and the wings. but I am stuck on what to use as the basis for the fuselage, One silly thought was a bf 110, might even give the basis for tail parts. Comments/suggestions welcome. Cheers Jerry
  25. Hi a nice reference to the IId in link below, with drawing cheers Jerry http://warandgame.wordpress.com/2007/11/05...h-40mm-vickers/
