  1. Hi All, Great discussion thread, and not to deviate, but what is the hurricane IIb ,MOD 304, memtioned in the letter, anyone know ? Cheers Jerry
  2. Hi So for this loose minute sheet to be issued, defining the use of mid stone instead dark green, not dark earth, implies to me, that aircraft had been painted in mid stone and dark green and that this had to be corrected, other wise why issue it, if it was already being correctly complied with. Cheers Jerry
  3. Hi If different from those in my links please can you post them Thanks Jerry
  4. Hi A very interesting photo of a spitfire taking off next to Wasp's bridge. Cheers Jerry first trip ? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm..._%28CV-7%29.jpg plus another showing camo http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_8DAL7gPYBiM/TVIS...waspMalta_3.jpg maybe the second trip ? plus a few more maybe of interest http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=11853 http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=11855 http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=11854 http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=11860 http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=11856 P.S. just noticed.. if you compare the loading photo, to the others, it seems to prove re-painting was carried out, just look at the rough lower demarcation line on the later photos.
  5. Hi I wish someone would publish a book or something of all these orders, It would be nice to see them all. Or even a 'by installment series'... cheers Jerry
  6. Hi A bit of info here, on use of green, and other info in the thread. quoted from the website link http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?t=48728 " 28th September 2005, 15:39 Eddie Location: PA, USA Posts: 1,170 Just to throw something into the mix - I'm not making and definite statements here...! My late grandfather was an RAF ground crew member who was put on Wasp to maintain the Spitfires and prep them for the flight to Malta. Both my father and I remember him saying that the Spitfires were painted with deck paint from the US stores during the voyage. I remember him also saying that they repainted them several times on the way, and were quite surprised when they actually took off due to the extra weight of the paint! I suspect they were delivered in desert camouflage, I seem to remember him saying that at one stage there was some green added to the scheme. I also remember him saying that the underside was repainted at least once, but I couldn't say what colour. Unfortunately by the time I was old enough to realise this was "significant" information, his memory wasn't sufficiently good to recall it. " another link http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?t=57785 Malta wasp spitfires, always an interesting subject. Cheers Jerry
  7. Hi Thanks for the reply, good job they didn't cost much then, seems they may not be my area of interest. Cheers Jerry
  8. Hi I seem to recall on either the Flypast or TOCH forums, that someone did a 'dig' on a dams Lanc, and found some parts, that had part/mod numbers, that were traced to being part of the under fuselage turret gun fittings, giving some thoughts to that they may have been fitted, at least on that aircraft. Sorry can't remember more. cheers Jerry
  9. Hi All, One of those purchases,I bought a batch of superscale decals, one is 72-48 RAF letters white and red medium, 9mm. Anyone know what RAF aircraft they would be used on ? Especially the white codes , at the worst the red would be I presume, night fighters and light bombers ? The impulse buy was for the red to be used on a 276Sqn Defiant, but not sure if they are the right size. But at $0.99,a sheet, they seemed to good a good buy. Cheers Jerry
  10. Hi Nice links thanks for posting them cheers Jerry
  11. Hi I always refered to the site linked below for info, as I have little knowledge on the subject cheers Jerry http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/usn_e.htm#1940

  13. Hi Apparently airfix new zealand production, I have a whirlwind fighter in this colour . Also another one in black, but I don't know where this one came from. Cheers Jerry
  14. Hi I did not know that Airfix did this service, ( I know they do the missing part service & that is very good ) How much do they charge for parts ? I currently buy a kit to scrap for parts/conversions, but this could be a more cost efective way for my hobby budget. Cheers Jerry
  15. Hi I found revell and airfix to be great service to this side of the pond, takes a bit of time thou' Amusingly i bought an airfix beau recently, it had bent props, so asked for new, and airfix sent bent props... must be a moulding issue. Now italeri.... a total waste of my time.....won't buy from them again..... cheers Jerry
  16. Hi If it were fairly common, there would have been mention in the pilots notes, but then maybe for senior officers different things happened, (R.H.I.P.) but for 'normal rank and file' it would be normal stuff, as aircraft were usually shared. In the end if you are building a particular aircraft, a photograph will kill any arguments you have when you built the model. Failing that I personally would go for the normal US fitting. Cheers Jerry
  17. Hi Thanks for the reply cheers Jerry
  18. Hi open to personal interpretaton. For example the hurricane AP actually refers to it having a 'spade grip'... whirlwind likewise... So personally I would think the american type stick was being refered to. Cheers Jerry
  19. Hi Well there are plenty matchbox for sale on e bay, even multiple quantities by some sellers, so you better off load it quick, if you are selling it. Cheers Jerry
  20. Hi From the pilots notes AP 2013A Tomahawk I, ( unfortunately my copy has no photos ) 1. Cockpit - The cockpit is fully equipped and has the normal stick and rudder pedal controls 3. Control Column - The control column is of the conventional design. The control column hand grip has two switches; the one on the top of the grip is a push button and operates the landing gear; the other is a trigger switch and operates the firing of the guns I don't have photos for anything before the kittyhawk and this manual AP2014A, shows a US style stick. Sorry but all my manuals, etc, are for D models onwards. P-40B/C stuff is hard to get hold of. cheers Jerry

  22. Hi, On the second link I posted there is a picture ( of the prototype ? ) that shows a kink in the line. Just enlarge the photo and it can be seen, albeit a slightly different shape to that on the model. http://www.aviastar.org/pictures/england/v..._wellington.jpg Maybe early aircraft had it and it changed soon into the production run. cheers Jerry
  23. Hi I have read of aircraft i/d letters being allocated to flights, many moons ago I found at the NA/PRO, at Kew, unfortunately i didn't record the file numbers in those days. A flt, A-M or A-H B flt, N-Z or I-P C flt P-Z Cheers Jerry
