  1. Hi, I have chatted to a few vets over the years , and yes it is a great priviledge to hear them, and see them go back to the 40's, if only in their mind. cheers Jerry
  2. Hi I have given up on these and similar titles, and tend to get the info I need from the original manuals produced in WW2, and from the relevant websites. I personally am never to sure on the accuracy of some of the stuff they use in the new books, i.e. could be based on restored a/c which are not necessarily the same as an original build. cheers Jerry
  3. Hi Probably my last idea (if it were me) would be to request a copy of the operations record book for 604Sqn for the relevant time period, this would be available from the NA/PRO at kew gardens, London. The majority of ORBs, kept a table of aircraft used, some just serials, some just code letters, so it could be hit and miss. cheers Jerry
  4. Hi Well I finally got around to viewing this thread, been meaning to for ages. I personally can see both being used, mats and also that a skilled painter doing it without them. I would be very suprised if a inspector of aircraft failed a much needed frontline aircraft due to a deviation in a paint sheme, i would imagine he would be very quickly replaced..it was after all wartime... The only experience in a 'wartimeish' enviroment I had was in a naval dockyard during the falklands, and the book basically went out the window very fast, paint was mixed by the painters when they didn't have the right colour, different paint batches were mixed together, different manufacturers supply batches mixed as well. ( things never normally allowed). Also things by passed the drawing office and were designed and installed by use of the back of a fag packet. i remember the most often heard phrase, 'just get it done, don't care how you do it,where you get it from, just get it done.' You could look at two frigates side by side in 'south atlantic grey' and they were a different colour.. As they say in the end it's your model, do it how you like it. Cheers jerry
  5. Hi Nick, Many thanks for the info, I always like info on a few 'localish' aircraft subjects, I didn't know the serials, or about the ASR flight, interesting I must find out more about the hudsons. And I must find a decent reference book on WW2 RCAF aircraft, units & serials. Cheers Jerry
  6. Hi Not post war repaints, The film was released 20 April 1945, So the footage would have been filmed and completed quite sometime before.( actually just found out that filming had finished at pat bay by 14 aug 1944 ) cheers Jerry some other colour RCAF footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-VGxMbSQpU...feature=related
  7. Hi I am sure I have seen some clips on youtube. cheers Jerry p.s. found one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_I-9y4Z2lQ
  8. Hi Now I like the RS rule, reminds me of working in the UK. Nice build. cheers Jerry
  9. Hi It would be worth contacting on target. They produced the profile, so somewhere they must have a reference photo/s that they used, and they could give you the source of it/them. I personally wish profile producers printed a photo reference for their schemes. Cheers Jerry
  10. Hi Dave, Many thanks for the reply and info, I unfortunately haven't got that book, but your description gives me a good idea of where it fits. Cheers Jerry
  11. Hi Anyone know exactly where the cameras are fitted in a Bf 110C-5, all I have found so far is that they are in the cockpit floor and the 20mm cannon are removed. cheers Jerry
  12. ......................however the Halifax has not been produced for many years. ........... Hi So that may explain it, but it would have been nice to have gotten a responce from Airfix. cheers jerry
  13. Hi Sorry can't help, but if it's any consolation, you aren't alone. I have been trying to get a missing halifax canopy off airfix now, for about two months, the replacement parts service doesn't seem to be as good as it was about a year ago,and doesn't reply. Maybe a sign of the current economic times ? I am thinking of starting to buy revell again, I hear that they have an excellent replacement service. cheers jerry
  14. Hi Bill, Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to do the comparism. cheers Jerry
  15. Hi It would be interesting to see how they compare in size cheers Jerry
  16. Hi An option maybe looking out for an old SMER kit, pretty certain this was only a floatplane version, as I seem to remember having to get aeroclub wheels for it, sorry, but I sold it all off before emigrating, so I can't check it, but others may know if this suggestion is of any use.. cheers Jerry
  17. Hi dave, Thanks, a good scan of the photo etch and instrument panel would be excellent. I have had the 'scale models' drawings enlarged to 1:32, So the torpedo, etc, info I have is great, I have two AP manuals, and a couple of pilots notes on the beau's, ( if you need any let me know ), along with a few other books on the beau, so I should be OK on the rest of the aircraft. cheers Jerry
  18. Hi thanks for the links, and thanks for the offer, I have a 1:32 beauifghter in the pile, I have just had some drawings scaled up to 1:32, so I have the details on the tail and the torpedo. But I would love a decent scan of the photo etch and the instrument panel if you are able to do that for me. cheers Jerry
  19. Hi Sorry I won't be getting the kit now, seller wants nearly 4 times the original shipping quote to send it, so not buying it now. looks like I will be back to the plan of scratchbuidling a torpedo. cheers Jerry
  20. Hi Not promising, but after my kit arrives in the post I will see what i can do. cheers Jerry
  21. Hi All, Thanks for the replies, Personally as I can never do scale replicas, only models, (my modelling skills aren't that great). These kits sounds like at the right price they cold be an option. Cheers Jerry
  22. Hi All, Sorry but yet another question from me ..... and this seems to be the best board to ask.... Recently I have seen monogram heritage versions of normal kits on e bay. For example the 1:48 mosquito, these heritage editions seem to achieve a higher final sale price. Does anyone know if they contain extra or special parts that are different from the normal kits.. Or was it just a clever sales ploy used by monogram. cheers Jeryy
  23. Hi True, I find most of the SD aircraft/flights interesting, they used to be fascinating finds in the various station or squadron records at the PRO/NA, The main one I remember either 1O Sqn Raaf or Raf mountbatten log mentioned the aircraft. no photos thou' cheers Jerry
