Thanks mate. I used AK’s camo putty for the demarcation in camo. Gives it a slight feathering. See original post regarding finishing with semi gloss.

Cheers for the honest feedback mate. Like I said in my original post, this was very much an experiment more than anything else. Regards to the sse on the wing, the typhoon as a little bit going there. I think the actual job is not as glossy as it is in the pics. They did have a bit of shine to them sometimes, and I just didn’t want I bury all of my painful work with a super flat coat. thanks again for the input. Greatly appreciated

Cheers for feedback mate. The Eduard edition of this kit was just a hasegawa reboxed with a few extra resin and PE details. Honestly a painful kit to make but I made it work.

Hi Andy. you’re probably right about the matte finish. The second image is all glossed up for decals and washes etc. I used the semi gloss to finish it. It’s very much on the edge of what I’d deem as acceptable, and I did get it at the right light to photograph it to show it off, so it probably appears here as more glossy here than it actually is. But like you said, I didn’t want to hide my laborious work.

Hello again. I may as well put a few up today for inspection as I got some free time. This time it’s my attempt at a K4. Because of the situation of Germany at the time these things went into production, it really was a mix bag when it came to camo schemes and colours used. The famed hallmark of German quality and perfectionism went out the window and gave way to rushed-out-the-factory-door exercises in desperation. Might have something to do with servers nations bombing them day and night. They didn’t even bother painting the undersides in some cases, and the mismatched panels made it painfully obvious that parts were produced all over the country side. here was my reference material.. Here’s what I came up with… I recently entered this build in a competition and to my surprise it actually won a couple categories. When I opened the kit, I promptly threw away the rubber tires and opted for a set of barracudas. I used an AIMS decal sheet and hgw seatbelts. As for the colours I tormented my poor soul over trying to get it right. I mixed and matched and brewed and tested about 20-30 combinations to get an RLM 81 brown violet that I liked. I’m sure I own every brand ever that produces this colour, and NONE of them are alike or any close to the shade I had in mind. The different manufacturers had a different take on that colour, and Messerschmitt as far as I can tell had an actual pinkish brown colour that was applied to some 109s. That or the paint oxidised that way for being so crap. The mix I came up with was a 50/50 blend of mig ammo rlm 81 (may as well be magenta) and flat earth of the same brand to bring it back to brown. I’m happy with result.

Hello everyone. This is my first image post here and the first time I’ve shared my builds online, so tell me what you think. That out of the way, this one took me a couple years to get through it. It kept going back in the box and I had several attempts at completing it. Finally I finished. Reason being I put a stupid about of work into surface detail. I wanted to give “stressed skin” effect a go. The effect is nice but it was a terrible boring job to sit there with a scalpel and sandpaper, and doing it so it doesn’t leave scratches (light gentle hands with scalpel is key). Then I hook in with Rosie the riveter. here it is in completion. I opted to finish it semi gloss instead of flat, so it doesn’t disperse the light and shows off the effect. An advantage of some of these older kits is the lack of surface details, it give me the freedom to do it my own way. Like these rivets for example. I didn’t go too nuts sanding the rivets down after I made them. This leaves them slightly proud, and in doing so it makes the hairspray chipping method a bit more convincing. With a light enough hand and the right amount of hairspray, you can remove paint just on those slightly proud rivets in the wing root area. Anyway it was more an experiment than anything but I’m happy with the result.

Perfect, thank you. Although the info didn’t answer my question directly, they are clearer images which are very useful to me. Thanks again

Cheers mate, I appreciate your help greatly.

Hey mate, any luck on those images? If you can’t it’s no drama, I do want to buy the book eventually. I’m just working on a project that involves the 190 on its nose in that image. I just want to know what colours the “experts” say it is, as there’s some conjecture on That period of eastern front 190s and whether they’re German rlm colours, or random captured Russian paints.

Thank you mate, you’re a legend.

Does anyone own the book AK real colors of wwii for aircraft and would be willing to screenshot or scan a particular page for me? I watched a review on it and want to buy the book, however I’m not prepared to take a second mortgage on my house to finance owning the book just yet... the page I’m after is in the Luftwaffe winter colors section. It’s the page that has the fw 190a-4 with the winter splinter theme going on, nose down in the snow. Also the next page which has also a 190 in a similar theme from the same unit with its summer version. It relates directly to a project I’m currently working on, and have been sorely lacking information on. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, happy modelling.

Hello everyone. I’m about to start on my tamiya 1/32 f4u-1A Corsair. I’m doing the famously photographed #5 gull flown by Killifer. I’ve got an Eduard engine and a grey matter accessory bay for behind it, exposed like in the pic. does anyone have any pics or resources or information or on the wiring and cables that run beside and in that accessory bay? I can’t for the life of me find anything. Any help will be appreciated, thanks for your time, Kov

Troy Smith - Mate, that’s legendary. More research gold I’ve been searching for. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Was RLM 82 actually a darker one than I’m thinking of? I’ve used it on a couple of my builds and it’s quite a bright/lighter shade of green than the old “rlm 83”. Whatever they call it now, I still think I’ll use my old “Rlm 83” as the darker hue in the camo scheme. Might even splurge out and buy a couple of brassin goodies for the build. FalkeEins - cheers mate, I might just pick myself up a copy when it comes out.

Thanks Mats, you’re a legend. Have a good one mate.

Thanks Matave, that’s lovely. Spent weeks trying to find that one image of that plane I’ve seen profiles and models of. That’ll come very much in handy. 75/82/76 sounds odd to me, never seen that combination, and my understanding of those colours puts the hue of 82 not much darker than 75 (being called by some as “hellgrun”). With that much contrast between those colours it looks more like 75/83/76 to me, and I’d say I’m probably going to model it as such. What do you think? Thanks again for that image, it’s research gold for me.

Hello everyone, Theres a subject in the book “Luftwaffe fighters and fighter bombers over the far north” that I specifically would like to model. Through my own channels of research I’ve found that it’s in this book, however I don’t own the book. It’s not a very easy book to find, and the ones I have found are ridiculously expensive and on the other side of the world to where I live. Is there somebody out there willing to photograph or scan any pages of any info and images relating this specific aircraft for me? Its a bf109 g-14, of jg5. “Black 13” with the black and yellow tale band. Granted its an odd request, but it would save me a lot of time and money. And I’d greatly appreciate it. Either PM me or just reply, I’m easy if you’re willing to help me out here. Thanks everyone for your time.

Beautiful. That’s another pic I haven’t seen.
-
In Nowotny’s case at least. For the other examples you’ve shown, definitely, they look to be done differently to my estimation.
-
That’s what Eduard suggest in their kit, but I have to disagree. Look at the white around the “10” and the green heart. It looks like it was there first, and he’s just took a spray gun of dark green and filled in around it as quickly and crudely as possible. Didn’t even bother to tape off the yellow band around the cross hence the overspray. Just what it looks like to me.
-
Yes, that’s the image I have. I’m just being pedantic here as always, but that’s part of the fun of it. It seems that the plane had its overall white wash applied over the factory 74/75/76 scheme for the winter, and then they’ve gone an sprayed some patches of RLM71? over that scheme for the Spring, hence the bits of overspray on the yellow band.
-
Good chance of it. No harm in throwing a line out there regardless, someone might have a pic. My point is he was famous pilot and it was quite a relatively famous plane. There’s gotta be more than that one pic out there of it.

Hello everyone, My next project entails a FW 190 A-4, and I want to do Walter Nowotny’s ”white 10” of spring 1943 - the white/green patchy scheme they all had at that time on the eastern front. Every artist’s rendition seems to feature the same patches and pattern so it leaves me to believe that there’s a decent side on image of the machine at least. I can’t find it. Does anyone have any decent pics of the actual machine? I’ve got one partial shot where he’s walking beside it with a cigar in his mouth, are there any others out there? thanks for your time everyone, and happy modelling. C

Lovely, thanks everyone. This has been a bloody goldmine of useful info. I had no idea that Eduard’s reference aircraft was a total wreck. It seems the consensus is a 74,75,76 scheme, potentially being a g-14 rebuild or similar. It even looks as such in photos, so I’ll paint it as such.

Hi everyone, The other day I picked up Eduard's new 109 g10 Regensburg profipack. All of the presented schemes bar one are the standard RLM 74,75,76 schemes that were applied to nearly all 109's since the F model. I intend to build the one on the box art, “white 9” of kg(j)6 with the black and red chequered band, but can’t even find any reference photos of this machine to judge the rlm scheme for myself. Does anyone have any knowlege or even documentation regarding specifically Regensburg g10 colour schemes? were they done in 74/75 or 81/75 or 81/83? I've read somewhere that MTT tails were outsourced and used different manufacturer's machines, which is why some 109's had the blatantly different coloured tail surfaces. Any infomation on the subject would greatly be appreciated as it's doing my head in. thanks everyone
