  1. To be fair a model like this would usually take a few months for me I just ended up with an unexpected deadline and being his 40th I had to get it done, surprising what you can do under pressure lol also the Tamiya kit is pretty old with raised lines if I'm not mistaken? Uphill battle from the start that one lol this kit was about as good as fit as you'd want there was no real issue with construction.
  2. Haha yes he said that they were common sight and basically said they're a beast which is a pretty good description I'd say.
  3. I made this exact kit and scheme IIAF as well. Mine is wheels up. You did a very nice job, and for the price you can't beat it considering it's recessed lines and can turn out nicely like this one. Great job!
  4. Ok man cool that was helpful. Not too different but as mentioned above has to be on a white background.
  5. Hahaha nice one guys thanks for that. Well luckily for me the whole fuselage is white.
  6. Well the kit and decals have arrived so it'll be good to get this made and posted. I'll probably not do a wip but I'll definitely post the finished model on the aircraft forum for sure. It comes with a poster of the box art as well which I did not expect from Revell and a stand is included with the kit, which saves me making one! The decals look incredibly thin I've not seen any like it before they're laser printed I was told? No idea how to use these I'm assuming they're applied like any other waterside decal? If I'm wrong about this please let me know as I dont want to ruin them. So here we are a build I'm looking forward to and airliners are something I don't build in fact come to think of it I don't think I've ever made one so this will be a first! It's military jets causally for me.
  7. Looks great, I've made two of these in the past and have their Bronze Tiger Luftwaffe one in the stash. I think it's a pretty good kit with the exception of the intake engineering.
  8. Ok well you've got a sale then lol. I'll check it out next week and place an order.
  9. Thanks for the link, I could probably do it myself by tracing and making a mask, decals would make life easier just lol. I was inspired to make it after watching Invictus which then brought back a memory of the news reporting the incident when it happened.
  10. You're doing the specific aircraft that flew over Ellis Park on the finals with good luck Bokke underneath? If so do you have a website where I can buy them?
  11. Flip me that was fast haha yes those are the right decals @Pin I'm gonna have to mask and spray Good Luck Bokke on the bottom I think but good to know the 747 100 will do @Turbofan thanks!
  12. Hi guys I want to make a South African Airlines Boeing 747-200 to depict the aircraft which flew over the Ellis Park stadium. I'm pretty sure I can get the decals printed somewhere online as I can't see any SAA decals to buy unless you guys know but I have seen none. Would Revells 747-100 work? I think there are more top deck windows on the 200 but I really want to make this particular plane. Worst case scenario I will paint the markings but as I don't know much about airliners I really would like to know if I can make life easier without trying to change a model, although if the only difference is the windows then I can do that, I intend to do this on a stand so no landing gear will be necessary as I do believe the 200 had strengthened gear compared to the 100. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's this below.
  13. The kit looks vintage I like the old school box art of models. Always loved this plane and a good scheme as well to boot!
  14. Thanks man, as far as dioramas go I don't think this has much going for it but I'm a beginner with dioramas. I've been making jets years but dioramas not so much still learning haha.
  15. Awesome work the aircraft being burned out is outstanding.
  16. I forgot to post this here I did in the aircraft ready for inspection forum. It's an A-10 Warthog I made for my mate who served in Afghanistan with the Royal Marines. He loves the plane and I managed to do this in a week and a half with the help of my better half, she did the groundcrew and the generator and other equipment. It's all from Hasegawas USAF ground crew set which I think really adds scale I'm not one for making dioramas so I'm not great at figure painting. I have made a good few bases and for them I usually get a chopping board or something like that. In this instance it's a cupboard door from IKEAs bargain corner and the concrete is a tube of Pollyfilla smoothed with a steel ruler and painted with acrylics and the lines between the concrete is Mr Paint rubber black painted in a thick coat so it has the look I'm looking for where it's got a bit of shine in the light. Here's a figure in the kit I thought I could make into a Royal Marine so it's painted in a way that looks as close to that as possible. The gun is the Avenger cannon from the kit which the instructions will.tell you to put inside the aircraft but it can be made separately as there are two muzzles for the gun so there's no reason not to display it, a waste if you insert it if you ask me. There is one thing here, so I broke the canopy and as I was under a crazy deadline with the build I went onto Hannants hoping but not expecting a replacement canopy but I couldn't believe it AFV Club happen to make a replacement canopy for the Hobbyboss kit, when I received it it is a direct mould of the original part with a coating on the inside it's a purplish/yellow tint in some light and looks perfectly clear in others, it's actually really cool. So this was my best effort at a diorama and a model in 1/48 scale. If not for my other half I would not have finished this in time this took 1 and a half weeks, it was 11 or so hours building and painting at a time and I'm very happy. I hope my figure painting skills get better with time I paint them and give them a wash and I've no other techniques than that. I hope you guys like it, I want to make more dioramas as I often just build aircraft but dioramas give a real sense of the size of the subject so I will keep trying. I do appreciate constructive criticism as it's always good to know what could be done better and yeah I'd love to know your thoughts, enjoy the photos!
  17. In have the 48th scale special hobby Viggen and it looks great how's the fit of the kit?
  18. That's a very nice Hunter really nice finish. I like a gloss finish on models myself and I personally use the floor polish Klear it's always worked well for me and as long as you allow enough drying time between coats you can get a nice smooth finish. If you don't you will probably get the orange peel effect I usually do a coat once every 2/3 hours. I put it into the airbrush undiluted and it sets quite quickly but don't forget to run airbrush cleaner through it soon after as it makes the parts stick at least in my experience. A lot of people dont use it I know so there may be strong opinions on it especially as it's not as good as the older formula but that's just my experience and maybe worth a shot on a piece of scrap styrene you've painted to see what you think. I don't use it on clear parts anymore but for paint it works well. There is another option which I have not tried yet but I have seen YouTube videos and it's Tamiyas polishing compound with the polishing sponges, I've got them but I haven't used them the YouTube channel plasmo has lots of really nice builds and that's where I saw the model being polished if you search Plasmo Ferrari 330 you'll find it. Anyway thought I'd share what works for me and what might work. Also I can confirm AK Extreme metal is exceptional, it's worth getting some.
  19. This is your first model? Unreal this is awesome it's a model I have considered buying myself but I prefer modern aircraft, I'll be following your build for sure.
  20. I'll be interested to see how this comes along I have the same kit myself and I've only ever heard positive things about it, I've a different kit on the work bench but this is a good looking kit.
  21. Very nice Tornado! I have this in the stash I've built the GR4 a couple of years back, is this basically the same construction as the GR4? Just asking in case there's anything to watch out for with the build.
