  1. I was Q OXY and did a fair few dets towards the end of things for LOX / LIN support. A few thousand litres of LOX and most people would stay well away and leave you in peace
  2. In mine - no. On a wet or dirty runway you'd have been throwing mud and water straight up onto the battery and TR's ................too slow again wasn't I
  3. The engines with the green section were MK106's - only fitted to the last of the RAF's GR3A's - the French aircraft were 102's - all grey / silver modules
  4. The 'second wave' of aircraft deployed for Gulf War 1 had overwing rails and they became pretty much standard fit in any theatre from then on. They were removeable - just a replacement for the fence with 6 bolts. I even heard some pilots say they thought the aircraft flew better with them as effectively it was a set of bigger fences. The pylons and LAU were obviously seperate, and often aircraft back home just flew with the pylons. Never used on 2 seaters. The Americans who'd never seen us fully armed up were a bit surprised first time they saw the missiles overwing
  5. Impressive - don't forget there were three metal pates added to the top of the screen arch to avoid the step apparent in your picture, and prevent birdsremains entering the cockpit if they hit at that point.
  6. The same colour as the camo that was at the front of the intake. Camo was normally applied to the back of the intake box section - just behind the back of the rear aux intake door - from there back the intakes were zinc chromate. The painters would mask up at the back of the box when spraying, with the blanks off, or sometimes we'd have the box off and they'd blow the whole thing in before we refitted it.
  7. I think the one I rebuilt from 2 scrap ones is at Norwich Air Museum if anyone's passing............ And I've a 3kg practice bomb ( deactivated ) sitting on my desk
  8. Does anyone know what colours: the 'roof' of the nozzle bay / aft fuselage is and the inside of the intake duct below the upper aux intake doors. I think the answers are camouflage grey and white, but as I'm modding the Fujimi 1/72 to have doors that are not moulded open.......
  9. I'll reserve judgement till I see it in the flesh. From the computer image there are apparant errors, but until I get my hands on the plastic.........
  10. No chaff on the T-bird engine doors, although there was at least one ex GR door fitted to one, which had the blanking plate on it.
  11. Hmmm - take a look at this link: http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1628 If she was in Rred / white at the time I can't see any cannon or sabrinas
  12. I've got every copy of SAM. I delve into them only a couple of times a year these days, for research - the net is so much easier, and from my perspective this is where the magazine has changed. I believe it has become more mainstream and tried to appeal to the masses more, with the knowledge that they probably have net access too. It is still a very creditable publication, but personally I liked some of the older format - the 6 or so quick reviews towards the back for instance, and of course Tailpiece - surely someone could have taken over from Mike ? There you go - I buy it, and I've commented
  13. I did one of these a few years back. Shame - I could probably do a better paint job now, and maybe even approach yours Don't suppose the aftermarket refuel probe is still available ? can't recall who made it
  14. Got the kit yesterday, direct from Japan. Not too bad - but don't you just love HMRC
  15. I lied - it was Clearfix who did them ! XV576 'D' 1978 They were weird decals though - you peeled off the backing, applied them face down, the applied water to get them to release from the carrier
  16. Just a thought - what about the old Almark set ?
  17. The ones in Ecuador were up for auction last month...........
  18. Make a storage rack and build it with the blades removed for maintenance.............
  19. You'd expect the first vehicle on the scene to be a big red crash tender, not a little red golf buggy
  20. I had forgotton about this kit too - you had to remind me didn't you ! More waking in the night shaking - I'll have to exorcise the stash again - it's in there somewhere
  21. I thought about having a bid on that myself......
