  1. Wait till our aircraft are revealed with there upgraded layout
  2. I got a shot of it as I left work tonight
  3. Super looking GR1 Just to add, maybe you knew already, its Italeri's mistake mainly but that's a GR1 the Tornado IDS is not fitted with FLIR and in the case of the GR4s LRMST also. That being the major external diffrences. Yes they were built from IDS shells but they have never been known as IDS as the UK fitted the GR kit including different Avionics before they flew. With most of the kit being tested within the UKs Panavia MRCA Development aircraft. But the latest Tornado IDS for the Saudis are having LRMST fitted so FLIR will be the only major diffrence Hope thats a little something people didn't know
  4. Just a Sentinel? What about the only Operational Aircraft type at Waddington 5 On work up Non-operational 8 and 23 Non-operational on exercises 51 Operational in the Gulf 54 Training Sqn No operational commitments 56 Evaluation Sqn No operational commitments And that model looks great turnerdad my mind is made up how I'm going to do this so when I start the WIP thread the rest of you will also get to know
  5. Yes I realise that but for the Model to go in to the Ops Collection it has to be 1:72
  6. Clearly against the whole project then. I disagree with your statement regards nothing being used This image I created shows the major differences With the negative response it has strengthened my resolve to prove you all wrong. And it will fill the large gap in the ops collection as opposed to waiting for a commercial kit Reshape the rear fuselage Scratch the wing routes Fatten and Lengthen the wing including taking out the clear kink in the leading edge Build up the Tail Build up the Nacelles Extend the gear Add the Radars and Yaw Deflectors and other aerials Paint Wait for the Model Alliance ISTAR decals Done
  7. Maybe so but this is were the issue begins, there are models available for the P-35 and the P-47D, None for the Sentinel. Is this not the whole point of conversion modeling? Taking a similar subject and converting? Oh and scratch Building, were do I start?
  8. The model has to be 1:72 Scale so if your other scale is 1:72 you have an intrested customer No they don't the IFR fit was deemed to heavy, as the aircraft has a weight issue. Any heavier and the lower radar would scrape along the ground on landing I feel It will be a lot of work but an intresting conversion thats why I wanted others opinions
  9. I have looked in to it Sentinel being based on the Global Express Both CRJ200 and Global Express being built by Bombardier The CRJ200 is slightly smaller than the Global Express by about 2 feet in wingspan and length The shape of the cockpit is very similar maybe go as far as identical The main differences being the tail end and wing roots
  10. For my next project for Waddington Ops I was planning to build the Sentinel I wanted to get peoples thoughts on my plan Converting the Welsh Models vac formed CRJ 200 into the airborne element of the ASTOR System AKA the Sentinel R1 Using decals from the up and coming ISTAR pack from model alliance what do people think?
  11. The new ISTAR set from Model Alliance has the 90th Markings I believe. Yeah, just me at the moment though but the 2 nimrods I've done do look at home I'm afraid not, unable to get very much time off work and maybe working weekends so unable to plan anything
  12. All of the Models in Ops are in a pristine or subtle weathered condition so it won't be heavily weathered no
  13. No real visable progress at the moment just filling here and there Oh the radome has been painted Ted kit number is:- 12004
  14. Ted Taylor Mod? I've left it as is so far
  15. Plenty as I'm not keeping it, its going in the RAF Waddington Collection There is a slight curve as there is on the real aircraft, one of my mates that works on them gave me a tour.
  16. Today's update Inter engines fitted along with the Rota dome Pylons and the wing tip ECM pods. The Rota dome its self is only placed on for the moment awaiting painting For those building the kit in the near future be careful with the pylons if you fit them so they are flush with the fuselage then they are to close at the top to support the rota dome. I made a little spacer to keep the plyons at the correct distance leaving a gap along the base which will require som filling
  17. Not as big as one of my other models The Top one is the Sentry Middle is a 1:72 Concorde Its on hold till I can find a place for it
  18. Today efforts The fuselage halves went together very well as well as the wing halves including Undercarriage (Nose and Main), they were left to dry as shown above. Also left to dry was the Engine Nacelles and Pylons, rota dome and Tail plane sections. This morning I joined the wings and fuselage, quite a large gap between the wing fillet joints about 1mm gap each side. So out with the filler. Also I tidied up the outer Nacelles this afternoon and installed them along with the tail plane sections. For those planing to build the kit, without the wheels on the Undercarriage you will be unable to let the aircraft sit on its own gear as the are engines are below that level, hence the paint pot "Jacks"
  19. That's the tail of the Nimrod Kit that was converted to AEW3
  20. Next one started Another for Waddo Ops My predecessors have all neglected modern Waddington after the Vulcan Era so I have decided to start with this short fall A nice simple Airfix kit
  21. Me also At risk of upsetting the Experianced Members I was only just born when XZ285 joined the Joint Trials Unit ar Waddo
  22. Does this count as a What if? RAF Waddingtons Nimrod Fleet of R1 and AEW3?
  23. The kit Gear, just shortened it till it looked right
