Ah right ok, I will take a shot after work as I have done the port detailing and the vents for the Airstart valves are wet.
-
All the drains and vents added and a few panel lines Hopefully this is the view you was after
-
Will do in a moment have some images to upload. Each jet seems to be different I was working on XV249 last night and it has a variation of the shape which extends to the jacking point panel. I will look at XW665 tonight and see exsactly what she has.
-
Just before I go to work I have scribed the Engine doors on the Stbd side Oh and I apolagise about my missing images, the image host I usually use has a problem at the moment and is off line

Have you checked out this thread................................ http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...=10705&st=0 and as always prime portal is a great reference.............. http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/howard_m...ndex.php?Page=1 which is were this image is from............................ Essentially the R1s are the same as the MR2s with regards there basic construction so using MR2 references is not an inaccurate source. Be careful there are some drastic external differences, but your are safe with engine vents fuel tank access panels and things of that nature.
-
Sorry, but when it finaly meets the real XW665 I don't want the kits short falls being apparent. With the new finlets and correctly profiled windows she is really looking the part
-
A few more details added to the underside The access panel to the refuling pipes has a raised rim (just behind the U/C) I have also added the round radar transparent panel and the details around it And the 'D' Doors have been fitted. I have also adresses an issue with the probe. Not sure if these images are clear though. The Mount for the probe is not straight and is angled to the right as you look straight on to the aircraft. This view also shows off the Window curvature more clearly. My next task is to scribe and rescribe panel lines hatches and access panels. Starting with the Engine doors so I can also add all the drain and vent holes
-
As requested. Still a few bits to do though
-
And as promised the Window frames. A thin strip around the edges and I have also filed above the windows to give a recess depicting the entire frame above and below the window
-
Window frames next
-
Thank you, hopefully it will stand up to scrutiny when it comes up against the real aircraft

Added the finlets this morning, and what an improvement Also Added a few details around the tail, the lightning strips on the tail radome. The running streak/tail bumper. Fuel pipes on the lower rear fuselage and on top of the 4a Tanks and the Aerial mounts on the tanks also The Wing Tip Pods I have also added and the Rounded ends are the 3 unused Beam Windows and an extra unused one from the AEW build. I also added the probe just to get a feel of the finished item
-
With the information I gathered I Marked out the finlets on 1mm Plasticard. On the back of the card I then filled it to give the correct thicknesses at the to and bottom and the taper between them. I then cut them out and using the unused AEW3 tail as a template for the curvature of cause measuring 28mm in. Then filing the rear edges so they taper to a point and the forward edge to a blunt rounded profile. The top I also gave a smooth rounded appearance. I then cut out a 1mm wide strip of 1mm plasticard and curved it. Which I then glued to the base of each finlet. Once dried I will then cut them to the correct length and profile the top of each And thats it four scratch made finlets
-
Looking over old images and the base has always been that size, Info is same for the MR2 also
-
Right the jury is in. The supplied fillets are only ever so slightly small, and I'm talking 1 or 2 mm but they are in the wrong position For the correct position they need to be 28mm from the edge of the tail plane 5mm from elevator hinge line 3mm from leading edge These have been worked out from the real aircraft. I have yet to check the position measurements on the model so they may be slightly different and compromise may be in order. Oh nearly forgot. Width: 0.6mm at the tip 1mm at the base The fin mount is 1.7mm wide 1mm high following the curvature of the tail plane Hope it helps An interesting story I was told once. Is that the Finlets are the size they are because of the Tristar. When the probes were first fitted Victors were the RAFs Tanker aircraft. And a small triangular fillet was fitted to counteract yaw forces affecting the probe. When the RAF started tanking with the Tristar the center engine blew over the tail causing buffeting and instability. To correct the problem the Finlets size was increased to what we have now and the stability when behind the Tristar is much improved. How true that is I'm not 100% sure but its interesting none the less

Yes I will get some tomorrow, I haven't done anything today as I have given my Modelling room a much needed clear out and rearange
-
With the major airframe structure complete I have started adding the larger details. Small details such as the aerials will be added after painting. Starting with the tailplane Finlets. Which I am reshaping to a correct profile (Unmodified top. Modified Bottom) But saying that, i have just placed one on the model and there to small, even before modification
-
Tail plane added today. I have also added a little extension from the unused tail section of the AEW i built as the Kits tail is a little short. I have sorted the trailing edge wing fillet, But looking at these images still a little fine tuning required I have added the end of the 4a Tank to the righthand side but cut of the raydome cover off as this will need to be extended the same as the other side will need to be as the kit is again to short
-
I started with a coarse grade of Micromesh rubbing vertically then 90 180 then 270 Degrees the reducing the grade each time repeating the process but off set by 45 Degrees to the previous. I will be doing a little more micro meshing once the finishing kit I have ordered arrives as my finest grade at the moment is 1200 and I need it that touch finer

I'm making a 1:72 Scale Sea King in the colours of 78 Sqn for a little diorama I've planned I plan to have the doors open and I'm making a detailed interior
-
As Promised a few Images. I polished back above the windows and removed the upper window frames applied my Eduard Masks and some extra tamia tape to reach the desired Window Line. I will now add the upper window frame with some plasticard and this will all add the raised panel line that is around the Nimrods Cockpit windows The Pannier bay assembled and filled And the Fin Complete
-
Just a text update for now, will upload some images later, The "Bomb bay" doors have been fitted filled sanded refilled and sanded some more. As this is an R1 and as I have mentioned before the Pannier Doors do not open in flight so I have fitted and removed all the details from the pannier so I can re scribe the lines accurately. I have also began to address the cockpit window inaccuracy. I am in the process of filing above the existing windows and polishing them back up. Then using a mixture of Masking tape and Eduard Masks to mask of the windows so the frames can be accurately sprayed on. Images to follow
-
With Mikes permission I am going to do some shameless promotion I have just created a Website with a Fourm to showcase my model builds and for you guys to directly ask me about my models. I will also be creating a thread with all the vairations and diffrences of all the Nimrod marks, that should hopefully be a help to you guys here http://mattviation.synthasite.com/ Matt

Does any one have any images of the inside of a Sea King HAR3 (Looking to you paul c) I have had a quick search but no luck
-
I extended it till it looks right, sorry no measurements I have only done it for this as there is a huge possability that this will come in to contact with the real XW665 But it should be done to all Nimrods Models, MR1 R1 MR2 and AEW3
