Basically the aircraft gets towed in a circle as slow as possible checking north is north south is south west is west etc etc etc over and over and over again. Its a ground crew thing to do on fixed wing aircraft, but on Helicopters I would imagine the pilot would have to get involved and fly the aircraft on a pivot? Helo guys?

I'm afraid it could have been in pretty much any British Aircraft Pre or During the War. But I can give you the meaning of the Numbers No 5239 H.S. This is the individual Serial Number of the item. But before you start thinking you could track the serial number I'm afraid i may have some bad news. If the system of tracking items fitted to aircraft is similar to what I use on Nimrods (For the RAF guys amongst us, No Lits for me) Only lifed components are tracked. So if you had for example, a Lancaster shock absorber. That would be lifed for so many FSL (Full Stop Landings) and would have a components record card that would stay with the item until fitted on the aircraft were the card would be placed into a components record folder. Each aircraft having its own and an entry made in the aircrafts 700. This would say how much life is remaining and when the item is next due bay maintenance meaning it would have to be removed from the aircraft. Not being an Avionics Tech, I don't think instruments are lifed but I may be wrong. A M Stands for Air Ministry 6A/0227 Is the stores reference for the item. Like an Argos Reference number. I want a Book Shelf, I look in the Argos Catalogue for the one I want note the number, go to the shop give them the reference and hay presto I have a Book Shelf. Same for the Compass, It doesn't work, the "Erk" goes to the aircrafts illustrated parts catalogue. Finds the compass goes to the stacker (Storeman) gives him the reference and again hay presto a new or reconditioned compass and you don't have to pay. Maybe of no help but I hope its given an insight to the numbers on the Compass

Grass has now been added to the base board. Just need to sprinkle a touch of scatter to loose the joins in the Grass Mats and neaten up the edges. I have placed a few items on the board just to give a sense of the finished article Windsock and sign. I will be placing a fence with a gate here and a few trees and bushes just to give some intrest. Still a lot of items to add here Staging, Steps, People, Bowser, Tractor and Bomb Train to name a few. -

Image of the adjusted Navs bench I have finished the Right hand Undercarriage, using a mixture of Flightpath and Eduard PE. On to the Left Hand then some paint. I have also finished the internals of the front turret, but the barrels seem a little long so I will cut them down to size when I add the nose blister as a reference. -

As part of the Diorama I will be having a couple of "erks" looking over one of the inner engines. Using the Aires Merlin Mk 22 instead of the supplied Tamiya this is what I have done so far. But I would like an opinion. Top Cowl on (As Below) or off (As Above)? Since taking the images I have raised the back of the engine -

A few more details added, Some maps and charts, Pilot notes on the pilots seat and an edition of Tee Emm the RAFs official magazine on the Navs Bench. Also I have built the Stbd Side. I decided to have the crew entrance open so scratched a few items inside. The Toilet and Flare launcher being a few. -
I got my fonts from here http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/forums/dlc...itary-fonts-19/ Again the one you need, you will have to match up to images of the aircraft

Some more details added to the Fwd cabin. As PD259 had a H2S I have scratched a receiver set that is not in the Tamiya Kit Eduard or Flightpath detail sets. I also created the main spar which famously won many a battle with Lancaster crews knee caps Still a few more details to add, such as Morse Key a few Maps and paper work, but other than that its pretty much complete. -
Not an addition But the colour is an alteration During the War they would have been Black

No worries. I have loads of others if people are after any. I have rotated the last image as I had it in the wrong orientation

The Eduard Cockpit set has arrived so I have made a start on that area. Pilots seat and Controls done and started to give it a lick of paint. Have just noticed I have missed a few areas so I will remember to do them -
A Superb and very clean build. But you have one to many windows on the Port side. 3rd window back was deleated as part of the MR1 mod to MR2. Other than that great work.

The Reason behind PD259, I am a member of the RAF team that has recovered parts of the aircraft, and the same team that has set up memorials at RAF Waddington and near the crash site. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...ic=32811&hl -

I've ordered a Eduard Cockpit detail set so why I wait for it I have decided to make a start on another item that will go with the Lancaster. The Lanc will be the centre piece of a 2ftx4ft diorama. Looking all over the Internet I could not find a 1/48 Trolley Acc so I scratched one. My first attempt at scratch modelling so be kind. Started with a 1/24th Scale drawing which I found after a fair search on the net. It was shrunk to 1/48th and I started making the frame Few more details Looking at images of trolley Accs behind the port wheels of Lancasters on dispersal's they all appear to have Engines and a generator on top. So this may not be 100% accurate but I mated my Trolley Acc with a 1930s Engine and Electric Generator. Just need to paint, add a belt from the engine to the generator, add the wiring from the generator to the Acc and a cable that will go from the Acc to the aircraft
