Its been a long haul but finally....................... She's finished Nimrod AEW3 XZ285 Nimrod Joint Trials Unit RAF Waddington 1985 Off to Waddington Ops she goes
-
Sorry guys work has taken over at the moment, The Squadron have entered a period of heavy Maintenance, so we are flat out, and I have not had the time or will power to do anything more than the AEW3 I want to get into Waddington Ops as soon as possible
-
Made a start on the decals now, still a fair way to go though. My home made Serials have seemed to work well
-
The fit was not bad at all. It was a little tricky around the Nose Undercarriage but overall slotted in nicely For decals I am using a mixture of: Kit Stencil Markings MA Roundels And I have made my own Serials
-
Sorry no updates for a while, With detachments and work commitments, I've just been getting on with it So here we are now, just waiting to add the little details After some research, I found out that XZ285 was the first Nimrod to reach the Nimrod AEW Joint Trials Unit at Waddington so she will be built as her and also did not recive a IFR Probe

Great Insight Sadly as a Regular i will have a slim chance of doing some "Proper Riggering" Ever reducing man power and civilianisation of 2nd and 3rd Line Bays, the down side of being in the Modern Air Force I would say But its very entertaning at the "Tip of the sword" Thanks brooksy

Super stuff What aircraft is she depicting? Because, now i'm going to spoil your day, she looks like XV249 when we brought her back from Gulf War II The darker panel behind the Cockpit is were whe had to paint over co-co the clown for when we returned to the UK In the 1990s we still had the hand painted gooses with the red ring around also, which is on the MA sheet

With all my other builds going on I decided to have a go at this. I found it when clearing the cupboard under the stairs Quite far in to the build now, Its a Revell 1:72 T1 kit and really doesn't want to go together. Building it out of the box, with no extras

Does this class as what if............

I was intrested in that very point when I got the kit It works out a full size Fireflash is over 408ft in length A 747-400 is 231ft so under double the size Trial fitted components on the kit this morning and with out any glue it fits together very well The Classic Fireflash pose
-
I did think that but Thunderbirds is set in 2035, My thinking is in the future from today, rather than the future from a 1960s point of view
-
Its a very nicely packaged kit, with a display base included And very simple to build, I've made a start
-
I resently bought the Thunderbirds 1/350 Scale Fire Flash from Aoshima But instead of the standard Air Terranean Colour scheme I was thinking of something a little different Any thoughts or comments are welcome
-
I have to do a little research, to find out which made it to waddo on the Trials Unit and it will be done as that

Been working on this for the past 2 Weeks Unfortunately I cannot say this is all my work, My Farther (Secretary of the Boston Model Boat Club) had the model donated to the club by the owners Family after his recent death As a young child I was amazed by this model and its detail It was built in the late 70s and since then entered a state of disrepair and when my farther received it it was in a very poor state especially the rigging and my work has been to revive this superb model to its former glory, there are a few parts left but the major work, Total re-rigging I have completed I also forgot to mention this is a fully working model and has the capacity to sail on water for real Oh, and I can't wait for dad to take it away as it takes up tomuch space, and I'm not happy leaving it in the garage

Does anyone live near RAF Waddington?

From the Board of Inquiry Repot the most likely cause was the Number 1 tank blow off and the external Supplimentry Cooling Pack (SCP) Pipe When the aircraft is flying it has a nose up attitude, which when air to air refueling causes one tank to more than likely blow off if being filled to capacity, because it is not level as it would be on the ground When the tank blows off (Right hand side centre section) fuel runs down the side of the pannier bay (Bulge that makes a Comet a Nimrod) this fuel then goes over the external SCP pipe which, as was the case on XV230, can have a loose fairing. fuel then came into contact with the hot air pipe causing it to superheat and the result we unfortunatly know! This is my understanding of the BofIs report and I hope it clears things up We no longer Air to Air and I beleive the SCP is not run anymore

I agree, I am happy to fly on both MR2 and R1, having worked on ours for 5 years and seen how the MR2 guys go about there ways in Oman Listening to Lincs FM yesterday and was outraged to hear that there report mentioned the 3 Nimrods at RAF Waddington are at the same risk! They are totaly different, we are not fitted with a SCP, the 500 Degree pipe, which only gets up to 235 Degrees, is part of this. My reason for never listening to the news
