    Haha. Sorry Redstaff

No offence taken, tbh in the flesh so to speak, the mirrors and side covers don't look to bad, but the picture really has shown a big difference. I've noticed since, that in a couple of books and online pics that the mirrors are occasionally white as well 🤔

So maybe sometimes they were slightly darker red as well 🤣🤣

Very nice, the paint colour looks spot on.

Just out of interest are the mirrors still painted in the Zero fluro red?

    Thank you

Yes you're correct, the mirrors and the bottom side pieces either side of the engine are zero red and were clearcoated before all the body red started cracking and I didn't fancy trying to strip the 2k off the delicate mirrors. Well spotted, I didn't think anyone would notice 🤣

  3. Great little kit by the looks of it, stuck a few bits together tonight. Engine has a nice detail to it in this scale, chassis was tricky trying to line all the bits up and get straight and level, but I think it's OK.

Would have preferred it in 1/24th, but I'm coping with all the small pieces up to yet.

Off to GCR tomorrow to play trains, so might not get any more done this weekend.

Definitely an interesting choice. Maybe paint the original military color underneath the newer color ? Make it look like it was transferred straight like that and the paint is wearing through in spots.

It's a thought, but we'll have to see how it goes as my paint effect skills like weathering etc are limited as I tend to build more F1 stuff lately, but I might have a drybrush around with some green on the wear points 🤔

  5. Now I've finally put the McLaren MP4/4 to bed, time to devote my attention to this GB. Throwing my hat in the ring with my LGOC-B type lorry.

During WW1 a lot of London General Omnibus Company (LGOC) buses and chassis were converted into lorries and sent to move supplies and troops to the front After the war a lot of them ended up in civilian hands. Rugged and reliable, around 14,000 were produced and utilised. Top speed was a heady 14mph with the power provided by a 5.3 litre 4 cyl engine producing 30 to 40 BHP in it's various forms at 5 to 6 miles per gallon.

1/35 is not my usual scale, but I just thought it was an interesting looking kit and bought it on a whim a couple of years ago, and it is well suited for this GB. There are 3 different colour schemes to choose from, not decided on which one yet though.

Just a preview pic and I'll hopefully start sticking bits together tonight :)

Ian. That is really nice. I know it fought you on the paint front but you overcame it well and ended up

with a stunning model. MP4/4 is a lovely looking F1 car and your build does it justice

I enjoy your build posts and look forward to your next model on the bench

    Chris

    Cheers Chris 😀

It's an iconic car that looked right from the start, probably my favourite F1 car of all time. Not one of Tamiyas best kits, but it does look proportionally right. After the paint woes, the recommendation of the MrColor red really made it less of a fight 😀

  7. My Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 GSi from 1994, dark metallic green 4 door with a spoiler on the boot, looked like a baby Lotus Carlton and went like excrement off a digging implement :)

I've had plenty of more modern cars that were better and more refined like the Mk8 Golf I've got now, but it was fun and a great car of it's day.

Best car I nearly had was a MK3 capri 3.0S in black, deal was all done with a mate that was selling it, until I got an insurance quote of around £1200 in mid 80's as I was only 20, so I had to pull out of it as the car was only £1800 and I was still an apprentice and not on the full rate and funds wouldn't stretch that far

Car I would probably rather forget is a toss up between an Astra 1.6 petrol from 2014, what an entirely gutless piece of crap that was, closely followed by my 1985 MG Maestro 1.6 with the talking electronic dashboard, nice and nippy when the 2 twin choke webbers were in synch, but that only usually lasted a couple of hundred miles before it was rough again, and the fuel economy was awful

Looking good. Did you lay down a clear coat before decals? Opinion seems split on the topic from the searches I've made. Keen to hear any comments you may have on the 2k as well.

    Thanks :)

No I haven't clearcoated first, the white is just Tamiya fine white primer, (no need for gloss white as it's going to be 2k'd anyway) and the red is MrColor 171, as long as your surface isn't really rough it's ok to decal on top of it without the decals silvering

I've used Zero 2K as I had it in stock and it's really easy to use, but there are a few different brands which people use just as well. It's just not pleasant to spray health wise, but I use a booth ducted to the outside with no problems. Just give your airbrush a real good clean after as it dries rock hard when it does cure.

Some say is gives a "too wet" gloss, but I like it for F1 builds, rally cars I use Tamiya LP clear thinned with MrColor levelling thinners as it's not as glossy

Thanks Dave! Well, whereas the initial 1978 and the 1986 kit editions show Goodyear tires on the box art and include decals, this 2010 edition doesn´t show and include them....

Somewhere buried in my decal stash there should be remnants of a Goodyear logo sheet. Maybe gonna retrofit the model, if I find it.

I think the later ones that Tamiya didn't have the permission off Goodyear to use their logo, so couldn't include them. If it was me I'd also rub some emery around the tires to give the scrubbed look and remove the mould seam lines. But its still a well finished model and its personal preference  but the tyres make a big difference to the overall look in my opinion 😀

I have been on the Tissot Watches website and under the history section is a bit about their motorsport history. There are a few photos of the Ensign, but also a Team Ensign sticker in blue, Link - https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-gb/history-carracing.html

Quite a variation there, but looking slightly darker blue on the whole, scrolling down though theres a picture of the Martini lotus  I've got one of those in the stash, pictures in that scheme seem quite rare :)

Hi,I couldn’t add any text once I’d uploaded this picture! I was going to say that this car was the same colour as Penske blue cars but now I’m not so sure! Just a nice photo I thought of this car,all the other pictures do show a darker blue I agree. Chris.

I agree, that's come out as nearly black in that picture, but looking around the net the colour seems to vary so much depending in the light, the camera settings etc

    Ian :)

  12. Thanks :)

The 99t was a dream of a kit to build especially with the PE detail set :)

What was even better was that there was no masking, all sprayed with Tamiya Camel yellow straight out of the rattle can, then 2K clearcoat :)

The MP4/8 was also nice to build, but the Fujimi 97T was a bit more of a challenge, especially around the turbos and intercoolers as nothing fitted

    Thanks Ian… it’s Dennis btw

Sorry Dennis of course it is, I knew that but as I was reading through from the beginning I saw CliffB's reply and had a senior moment (or brain fart) and you became Cliff 🤣

Sometimes you see kits at reasonable prices at shows etc, so one day maybe :)

  14. Nice unusual subject :)

Heller kits seem very hit and miss quality fit wise, I've had a couple of real dogs in the past, but you seem to be ok so far with this one  :)

Sometimes if you're after a particular car, you have no choice to make the best of what is available though

    Best of luck

  15. Looking good Cliff, only just started catching up with this GB as I'm currently finishing a McLaren MP4/4 for another sites Senna group build.

Hopefully I'll get started in this one in the next week or so :)

I'm currently reading  "The End of Glory: War & Peace in HMS Hood 1916-1941" by Bruce Taylor. No pics unfortunately, but it was a huge peacetime flagship for the RN and it was a huge loss to the British people when it was sunk with the loss of all off her 1,418 crew except for 3 survivors, a tragic waste of young life ☹️

I've never built a ship apart from the RAF rescue launch 50 odd years ago, might have to try one soon 🤔

Think I'd have to go 1/350 scale though to give my eyes and sausage fingers a fighting chance :)

    Hi Ian,

nice to see you having a go at this one. Looks good!

I have done the MP4/7 last year:

    Thanks :)

Nice build on the MP4/7, I've got all the Senna F1 cars to do at some point (except the Tolemans as I can't justify the price they go for) up to yet I've completed the Lotus 97T, 99T and the MP4/8 :)
