  1. It's a thought, but we'll have to see how it goes as my paint effect skills like weathering etc are limited as I tend to build more F1 stuff lately, but I might have a drybrush around with some green on the wear points 🤔 Ian
  2. Now I've finally put the McLaren MP4/4 to bed, time to devote my attention to this GB. Throwing my hat in the ring with my LGOC-B type lorry. During WW1 a lot of London General Omnibus Company (LGOC) buses and chassis were converted into lorries and sent to move supplies and troops to the front After the war a lot of them ended up in civilian hands. Rugged and reliable, around 14,000 were produced and utilised. Top speed was a heady 14mph with the power provided by a 5.3 litre 4 cyl engine producing 30 to 40 BHP in it's various forms at 5 to 6 miles per gallon. 1/35 is not my usual scale, but I just thought it was an interesting looking kit and bought it on a whim a couple of years ago, and it is well suited for this GB. There are 3 different colour schemes to choose from, not decided on which one yet though. Just a preview pic and I'll hopefully start sticking bits together tonight
  3. Cheers Chris 😀 It's an iconic car that looked right from the start, probably my favourite F1 car of all time. Not one of Tamiyas best kits, but it does look proportionally right. After the paint woes, the recommendation of the MrColor red really made it less of a fight 😀 Ian 😀
  4. Calling this one done for now thank god, its had its fair share of challenges along the way. Just a couple of quick pics and I'll post a write up and some more pics in RFI when we get a nice day outside in the natural light. 😀 Time for a next victim choice now Ian 😀
  5. Having a quick search around, the only real choice if you want to use acrylic is "Humbrol Garter Blue RC404 Acrylic Rail Paint 14ml Pot" Various enamels which you don't want to use, or there is Tamiya TS10 French blue in a rattle can which looks pretty close, but you may not want to go that route either 🤔 Ian
  6. Unfortunately the later BR express blue never ran (as far as I know) with any of the A4s with the valances on that were removed to make the fitters life a lot easier for maintenance and repairs. The early ones were Garter blue, which is much lighter Ian
  7. My Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 GSi from 1994, dark metallic green 4 door with a spoiler on the boot, looked like a baby Lotus Carlton and went like excrement off a digging implement I've had plenty of more modern cars that were better and more refined like the Mk8 Golf I've got now, but it was fun and a great car of it's day. Best car I nearly had was a MK3 capri 3.0S in black, deal was all done with a mate that was selling it, until I got an insurance quote of around £1200 in mid 80's as I was only 20, so I had to pull out of it as the car was only £1800 and I was still an apprentice and not on the full rate and funds wouldn't stretch that far Car I would probably rather forget is a toss up between an Astra 1.6 petrol from 2014, what an entirely gutless piece of crap that was, closely followed by my 1985 MG Maestro 1.6 with the talking electronic dashboard, nice and nippy when the 2 twin choke webbers were in synch, but that only usually lasted a couple of hundred miles before it was rough again, and the fuel economy was awful Ian
  8. Thanks No I haven't clearcoated first, the white is just Tamiya fine white primer, (no need for gloss white as it's going to be 2k'd anyway) and the red is MrColor 171, as long as your surface isn't really rough it's ok to decal on top of it without the decals silvering I've used Zero 2K as I had it in stock and it's really easy to use, but there are a few different brands which people use just as well. It's just not pleasant to spray health wise, but I use a booth ducted to the outside with no problems. Just give your airbrush a real good clean after as it dries rock hard when it does cure. Some say is gives a "too wet" gloss, but I like it for F1 builds, rally cars I use Tamiya LP clear thinned with MrColor levelling thinners as it's not as glossy Ian
  9. As it has been such a nice warm day here, the decals fully dried out quicker than I thought they would, so I managed to lay the 2k gloss on tonight. A couple of days to harden and give it a polish if needed, but at the moment all looks good tbh 😀
  10. Decals on tonight eventually, let them dry completely for a couple of days before 2K clearcoat 😀
  11. I think the later ones that Tamiya didn't have the permission off Goodyear to use their logo, so couldn't include them. If it was me I'd also rub some emery around the tires to give the scrubbed look and remove the mould seam lines. But its still a well finished model and its personal preference but the tyres make a big difference to the overall look in my opinion 😀
  12. Thank you 😀 Build thread here if you're interested, I also built James Hunts McLaren M23 in the same GB
  13. Quite a variation there, but looking slightly darker blue on the whole, scrolling down though theres a picture of the Martini lotus I've got one of those in the stash, pictures in that scheme seem quite rare Ian
  14. I agree, that's come out as nearly black in that picture, but looking around the net the colour seems to vary so much depending in the light, the camera settings etc Ian
  15. Thanks The 99t was a dream of a kit to build especially with the PE detail set What was even better was that there was no masking, all sprayed with Tamiya Camel yellow straight out of the rattle can, then 2K clearcoat The MP4/8 was also nice to build, but the Fujimi 97T was a bit more of a challenge, especially around the turbos and intercoolers as nothing fitted Ian
