  1. In fact looking at a number of photos the roundel sizes do vary . 3 Sq RAAF Kittyhawk II/IIA definately had 40 inch upper wing Roundels
  2. Thanks for the info . I took the sizes 11 odd yrears ago from the now defunct Antipodean Hawks
  3. A 48inch Roundel would overlap the aileron on the Kittyhawk I've meaured the upper wing roundels on a dozen 48th scale decal sheets and none of them come out as 48inch ones
  4. As Graham has said it looks very much like AN413 wasi n Desert Colours The Aircraft was lost on 12/12/41 over Tmimi Pilot being F'/O R Jeffries
  5. First P40 I ever made was the Pld Aurora Kit back in Early 60]s That Shark mouth Decal made it the envy of all my mates . We are so fortunate today to have such a wide range of Kits and Decals I must have a dozen getting dusty 0n shelves shelves Though my preferences are for Kittyhawks rather than Tomahawks in 72nd scale SH are definately amomg the best
  6. Sword did the P40K1/5 in a dual boxing Also the The P40K10/15 as the Kittyhawk III . It was Special Hobby who produced The F and L and a dual boxing of The P40 F/L as Kittyhawk MKII/IIA SH have now realeased the P40M so like I've posted before SH produce kits of all P40 Warhawks/ Kittyhawks apart from P40D in 72nd scale Cheers Terry
  7. Yes they are Now the SH P40M has been released Mine arrived this morning So now SH produce Every MK apart from the P40D Cheers Terry
  8. Yes the RAF experienced trouble with the alloy wheel cracking on Kittyhawk MKIV as they were sometimes operating with a 2000 lbs bomb load so replaced the 27 inch wheels with 30inch steel ones
  9. Yea I noticed that Just reboxings with some glaring Markings errors Typhoon Mc Goom was a P40 K1/5 NOt an E model I've Photgraphs of ing . No Clear disruptive pattern camo can be seen The time frame on rear box art for the A/c is incorrect too The white tail not becoming a ID marking untill Aug 43 the time
  10. More likely reboxingswith New box art and different decals One that struck me was the Typhoon McGoon boxing 'The Aircft was a K1/5 not and E By the time the white tail markings were an ID symbol - August 1943 ,the E models had mostly disappeared from the 49th FG .I've also Photos of Typhoon McGoon painted Olive drab before Aug 1943 without the white tail .
  11. Hi The RAF actually used 20 P40 D models AK571-590 Along with All the direct purchase Kittyhawks in the AK and AL serial range were Kittyhawk MK1 .
  12. The A/C is a P51B Inglewood built Ex UK Stocks Allocations of Mustangs to RAF in Italy were below those requested as The USAAF wanted them for escort duties with 15 AF
  13. Yes there weren't many in OD/NG There was FR806 GA*Q a MKIII ( P40M) in OD /NG and as you say LD*C FX781 . I've seen a photo of another MK IV on 250 in OD/NG bit no serial identifiable . The Desert Scheme persisted on some A/C in Italy as late as December 1944 from photos I've seen Mostly Repainted in a form of TLS though
  14. I just thought I'd invent a new scheme lol lol
  15. From Info I've received over the past 40 odd years of researching 112 Sq Aircraft , the Mustangs on 112 were either Green/ Grey uppers with MSG ( or painted in the US in DFS Equivalent .) or in "Silver " Some A/c were Painted at 159 MU Brindisi with the " Firewall " scheme and had the Nile Crocodile "Zap " painted on the fin . As for 249 Green Brown Mustangs I've yet to see any logic for this . Why would one squadron have a different scheme to the rest ? Remember too that 249 converted from Spitfires , to Mustangs back to Spitfires and at War's end back to Mustangs again Spitfires were originally in Desert Scheme . then in some cases had the Midstone areas repainted with Dark Green This could well be where the confusion may have arisen In fact A Pilot of 249 in the Book "From Fiji to the Balkans" describes the Mustang he bailed out of after being hit by flak as " My Beautiful Silver Mustang" , apparently it had been on the squadron only 6 weeks Then there was HK944 an A36 which was left over from 1437 Strategic Recce Flight was used to convert Pilots from Kittyhawks to Mustangs The A/C was basically OD/NG with RAF green over painting along the fuselage sides , giving it a Green/ Brown appearance The Green /Brown painted A/C refers to those Airframes origionally painted in the Desert Scheme and had their Mid Stone ares repainted Green . eg Kittyhawks andSpitfires Terry McGrady

  17. From the design of the kit ie separate cowling , It may well be that Airfix will release other variants such as Martlet MKII/IV Optional folding wings are a nice touch . Good value for money kit in my opinion Cheers Terry McGrady
  18. Not forgetting the Use of the F/L by the RAF and Squadrons under its command (ie 3 RAAF) 260 Sq used the short tailed F as did 3 RAAF . 3 RAAF going on to use the longer L model Cheers Terry McGrady
  19. Just had a look on the Hannants Website to find that The Airfix Whitley is shown as being in stock Cheers Terry McGrady
  20. Hi The only one you can do with reasonable accuracy from the Kit is QV*P KH655 a Mustang MKIV/P51D-5NT All the others on the Decal sheet are P51K versions with Aeroproduct Propellors You will also need to make some "Louvres " for the carburetor air intakes Cheers Terry McGrady
  21. Just ordered one via an Ebay seller RRP and post free . Not really interested in the FW190 or the paints in the Dog-Fight Double Cheers Terry McGrady
